historical was hard for me to enjoy too at first (and i love!! villainess manwha especially the isekai type) but now I appreciate when a game can keep on theme with their details especially with the clothing! i adore regency and victorian styles when a game commits to them with all the pretty intricate details.


i still have a hard time with the steampunk genre design wise, but their characters are so hard to deny so I'm just ignoring the industrial elements going on in the background. (⑉• ﻌ •⑉)

i think with shoujo-ai or yuri titles, it just takes one to discover how cute they can be (or at least in my case, i love the cute love stories!!) and then you're all in.

Ummm probably time travel ones. I wasn't fan of plots where protagonists bring modern knowledge or technology into the past and ends up twisting the history. Harukanaru changed that though! Without that I might still be a little biased against those.

One more I used to enjoy but I do play less these days is probably school settings? I still like those but others tend to catch my eye first now. (꒪꒫꒪ )

I used to love the crazy fantasy or historical games and thought modern games were boring.. now I absolutely love chill modern otomes, thats why I really liked Him, The Smile and Bloom because it was just about a cute flower shop and these two normal people falling in love. The normality of it is so refreshing, like I love plot heavy games with intense world building but sometimes I just want to focus on the characters lives and who they are as a person. Modern otome works great for that, and though its not as intense or high stakes it can still bring to light very serious and interesting topics!

Ive been finding that i enjoy more character-focused games these days because i wanna know more about the people instead of the world they live in!

I used to not be very interested in stories with elements of horror or suspense because I thought they created tension and romance took a back seat. After playing 7'scarlet, I completely changed my mind. I felt that the mystery and suspense made the story much more exciting. I think that kind of situation allows you to get to know the characters better and makes the development of the romance feel more intense and meaningful.

Not a dislike per se, but I used to avoid games heavily exploring politics and revolution, untill Utakata no Uchronia opened my eyes and showed it could be interesting too. +1 for dislike of historical setting, but I have yet to find a game that will change my opinion on that

Fantasy! Since childhood, I had always found the genre dull and boring, but then I befriended a girl who loves fantasy and she ended up getting me to like it.

I remember complaining about the genre to her a lot, but she would just say that I had only encountered bad, generic works—so she introduced me to some truly good ones.

Fantasy for me as well! I felt like many titles in the genre were kinda convoluted, but underdeveloped at the same time. It was like historical with extra steps, and spent way too much time explaining the world, so I got very bored with those kinds of games

I've since then played games that can balance the exposition and immersion aspects better, and enjoyed learning about the fantastical characters and world!
