Mystery ones. I love Danganronpa series. Ace sttorney is good. I started Higurashi when they cry but haven't finished it yet.

I also like VNS like Spirit Hunter,All of Us are Dead, Tiny Bunny, Homiciper
Yeeeees, Spirit Hunter mentioned!! I think that's my all-time favorite VN series. I love good monster design, and they've mostly hit them out of the park! Their most recent game was, mmm, probably the weakest... But still super good, I also loved Homicipher and I have the physical Switch version preordered! I'm gonna look into the other two you mentioned

I would say I'm pretty open to everything, but I've read some good mysteries and scifis, and thriller.s
My favorites in the non-romantic category, are the Zero Escape series, the Infinity Series, Danganronpa, Chizome no Hana, Your Turn to Die, Mamiya was good(hated the "sequel"), same thing with Umineko, and the first Paranorma Sight was good, Aegis 11 rim and Zanki Zero was good too. Personally, if I'm choosing to go for a non-romance story, I don't want any romance, zip, nada, Nothing. it has to be pure plot focused. So yeah... I still haven't found a good fantasy non-romance story though. Saw all the Utawaremono games but too many loli like characters for me

Spirit Hunter and Homicipher my №1. I played a lot of survival horror games but seems its hard to find good horror visual novels :( so sad....

Like a lot of the other posters, I've played through the Ace Attorney and Danganronpa games. I liked Fate/stay night but all the other Fate works come up short for me.

I liked The Silver Case. I loved Snatcher and was impressed with how good the English localization was for a 1990s game, and have been meaning to play Policenauts at some point. It's debatable how much those games count as VNs tho.

There was one time I went through the Muv-Luv games back-to-back. That was a pretty crazy ride. A ride I could only experience at a time when I was unemployed and in between school semesters.

Urban Myth Dissolution Center came out last year and I enjoyed it (and the promotional oneshot they had, which is how I found out about the game!)

I had been curious about this since the release trailer; thank you for posting to remind me to add it to my wishlist, lol

Visual novels in the genres of horror, detective stories, and puzzles. RPGs with love routines, if they can be considered novels.

I can read about anything lol. I love horror, detective stories, death games, survival VNs, psychological VNs, and mystery, but I also like sci-fi. If the story has plot twists, even better. The denpa genre is another one that I like, even though there aren't many VNs like that. If I list all the non-romantic VNs that I've loved, I'm never going to finish lol.

OFCC, fun fact : the first vn that got me hooked is Danganronpa, i actually enjoy mystery vn more than romance, other i like is Ace Attorney!

horror, mystery, detective. tho I still prefer them with some romance lol

I enjoyed Danganronpa, Ace Attorney, and Gnosia. But lately, I've mostly been reading romance-focused titles.

I've mostly only played otome visual novels, but I've also been thinking about trying horror or mystery games that aren't focused on romance

Gosh! I've tried a little bit of everything! I kind of learned English reading visual novels and text heavy games in general, and back then there wasn't a lot of variety? I'd play what I got my hands on!

If I had to mention some I haven't seen brought up yet, then, definitely the Key games! Love CLANNAD, AIR, Kanon, etc... gotta sit in front of your screen and cry a little sometimes, right? If I had to pick a favorite out of all of them, I'd say Little Busters, though; it's a story about friendship above all. The boys are just as great as the girls; I still think about you, Natsume Kyousuke!

For a completely different genre, I guess the counterpart to the Zero Escape series; the Infinity series? Never7, Ever17, Remember11... the last one has a special place in my heart; two protagonists, and one of them is a girl.

Horror would be the most frequent genre I play that doesn't have any romance or has only a little.

Urban Myth Dissolution Center, Death Mark, Paranormasight, Danganronpa, Ace Attorney series. Anything horror, mystery, thriller, paranormal etc.

Danganronpa is a good one. It's the first visual novel I've ever played on my laptop. Paranormasight is my favourite.
