Which love interest surprised you the most ?

So last week I finished Linus's route in Mistonia no Kibou, and he completely caught me off guard

My first impression was that he was just a shy and easily flustered guy, but his route ended up being nothing like what I expected. It felt like a complete 180°, and he's still the character that left the biggest impression on me.

What about you? Which LI surprised you after you actually played their route?

When I played Chou no Doku / Butterfly's Poison and they first introduced Majima, I thought "Aww, he's sweet to MC. I ship it."

Then.. *spoilers about him* was revealed and I was like "Oh no.. oh no.. I take it back. I take it back!"

Helvetica from bustafellows he seems like a shallow typical playboy when you first met him but his route has some really impactful depth. (´・ω・｀)

Indeed, Linus is quite a surprise! You'd think he'd be the typical cheerful guy, but Edward already covers that quota.
Helvetica also pleasantly surprised me; honestly, the way he cares for the protagonist is incredible. He even became my favorite in Bustafellows 2. To this list of womanizers who surprisingly weren't womanizers, I'd add Allan from Cupid Parasite. On the other hand, Mozu surprised me in a bad way T_T

In Collar x Malice, although he's not a love interest, Zero's identity surprised me; I don't think I saw it coming.

In Psychedelica, some LIs also managed to surprise me.

Aside from Majima from Chou no Doku: Butterfly's Poison, as bravelyflee mentioned, I was also surprised by Auger Von Garibaldi from Black Wolves Saga.

I will never forget that character. I won't go into detail because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but that ending made me think, "Is this really an otome game? Whaaaat?" Even though that was the ending, I didn't develop any negative feelings toward Auger. Auger will always be Auger. If anything, I appreciated the developers for taking a chance and trying something new.

Excuse me for sudden BL, but Ariake from Ooe. He is an obligatory first route, and he looked like a standard nice guy with a standard nice story. Oh boy, how wrong was I. His face from ending CGs is forever in my heart in the best and worst way possible.

If we are talking about otome, it's Alvaro from Wand of Fortune. I was young and stupid at the time of reading, so I managed to understand that something is wrong, but didn't get what exactly and at what proportion, so the ending was... unexpected.

Red from Nameless ~ The one thing you must recall ~. At first he seem obnoxious and immature (loud, annoying and inconsiderate) but as Eri begins to experience amnesia , Red cares for her meticulously, even when he has to explain the same things to her day after day . He never gives up on Eri and he actually ended up being my fave LI. A "true route" LI who deserves his position <3

Helvetica is a great pick. I also completely misjudged him at first because of the playboy image ‍‍‍

OMG, I completely forgot about him. He completely messed with my emotions when I played his route. I swear I spent most of it cursing him, but at the same time I couldn't stop playing and ended up finishing every ending. Love him or hate him, he gave me one of the most memorable otome experiences I've had

Yori - Itehari.
I'm not easily surprised by anything I see anymore, as I'm always sus about every LI I see no matter how genki they may look after Toma from Amnesia (even Linus). And yet Yori still managed to surprise me lol. Even though I could see miles away everything about him, I kept thinking "nah surely I'm wrong about him" and still ended up being 100% correct about him.
I love that guy. Both Yori and Toma and Linus lol

I would say the first LI that comes to mind is Nicola Francesca from Piofiore! I don't usually like the flirty types but there was definitely something about him that drew me in!

I felt same at first. I though i will never like his route. But he end up one of my fav LI's. Both. He just need more love T.T
