Where do I find and store my VN save files?

I hope this wasn't asked already/isn't a stupid question, but where do I find my save files for a game (within the installation folder or somewhere in %appdata%??)? And how can I save them in case I need to delete a game for storage space but later want to recover my progress? Can I just copy it aside in a folder and paste it back in later? I deleted one of my favorite BLVNs for space last year and totally regret it now. I tried searching to see if anyone had posted completed save files, but sadly there weren't any, so I probably have to skip through the whole game again... Thank you in advance!

I think it depends on the game, but most games the save files should be in C:\Users\[Name]\AppData (at least in windows, I am not familiar with Mac), inside one of three folders there. Also most games don't delete saves when you unistall them, but if you really want to be sure, you can copy them somewhere else

Most modern games place save files in the Roaming folder within AppData, I find some older games either make a new folder within the drive you installed them in to store saves (similar to how some games make a Games folder to store data within the chosen drive) or store saves within a dedicated folder located inside wherever you installed the game. I generally keep everything I install so I'm not sure of this but I'm guessing most modern games give you the option to keep save files when you uninstall.

Something I also see esp with games that require you to mount the CD to play is that they will create a folder not with the game name but with the dev name and store game data including saves there.

Usually, it's one of these three places:

· Game installation root folder – the most straightforward spot. There's often a folder named "Save", "Savedata", or "SaveData" right inside the game's main folder.

· System "Documents" folder – this is the most common location. The path is usually something like C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents (or "My Documents"). Inside, there'll be a dedicated save folder named after the game or the developer.

· AppData hidden folder – if you don't find it in the first two spots, it's most likely here. The path is C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local or Roaming (you'll need to enable "Show hidden items" in File Explorer to see it).

Once you've found the save files, just pack them into a compressed folder. When you need to use them later, just extract them back into the game's save folder.
