What's the perfect amount of love interests?

You can go for as many as you like, but the game length has to increase with it, so after about 10 you hit, like, an unreasonable length for an otome, unless you dont flesh them out enough.

I prefer games with 4 or 5 LIs.
If there are too many, it gets hard to play.
I think 4 or 5 is the perfect number to fully develop each character's route.

It's gotta be five, maybe with one more hidden route, so that makes six. I'd rather have a long after-story with a smaller number of love interests than deal with a crazier amount.

I think 4 is a reasonable number. In most cases, the more routes there are, the lower their quality. Forgive me, Hakuoki fans, but for me, this game is a prime example of how more isn't always better. Some routes repeat the plot, others feel like recaps of other routes (yeah, Souma, I'm looking at you).
And sometimes, some routes are much shorter than others. It seems so unfair... Like Lupin (Eikoku Tantei Mysteria) or Mathis (Shuuen no Virche).

6 or less. The more LIs there is, the less stories they have. The devs probably have a budget, cutting stories short if too much routes. I rather be fulfill by one LI than multiple mid plot.

I also think 4-5 works the best for getting variety without sacrificing on individual route quality and length. At least if where talking standard console titles. For mobile game models like voltage or shall we date and the like, I guess they can afford more options at the cost of them being kinda same-ish sometimes.

Really depends on how much content there is for each character. As long as there's a good story and depth to each character, I don't mind how many characters.

I think 4 is a great amount, maybe 5 if there's a hidden route as well, I like games where there's more though but I think more than 5 could affect the quality and pacing imo ┐( ˘_˘)┌

i think 6 is my maximum without interferring too much in the writing. otherwise, without some serious route separation, it just feels too much even to play in a single game. i get a little overwhelmed.

I rarely feel like there are too many LIs, so I don't really care about the number. However, if having a large number of LIs means there's less depth and content for each character and the overall satisfaction suffers, I'd rather have fewer LIs with more substantial routes.

On the other hand, no matter how many LIs there are, I'm personally all for it as long as each character gets plenty of content, with careful and thorough characterization and development.

I think around 4–5 love interests is the perfect number. When there are more than that, the character development and story tend to feel a bit lacking.

I think seven is a pretty perfect number. But honestly, it really depends on the game's lore and how many characters the story actually needs.

Having fewer characters means you can give each of them more depth and content, but you might end up losing some variety or certain dimensions of the story. On the other hand, if there are too many characters, players can start feeling overwhelmed and exhausted.

So ultimately, I think it really comes down to the skill of the writers and the director. It's not just about the number of characters, but how well they're used within the story.

I wouldn't know how to say it, or rather, it's complicated. Let me explain better. For me, more is better, but I've also noticed that "more" translates to some routes being underdeveloped, and most of the relationships feel rushed. However, in some routes, there's a lack of variety; they drag on for too long, and if the story isn't well-constructed, they include a lot of filler to make the game longer or even medium-length. So, it all depends on how well the routes are written and how interesting they are. There can be many or few characters, resulting in a magnificent and engaging story that keeps you glued to the screen, but it can also be very boring or flat, making you want to finish it quickly.

But in conclusion, I'd say an ideal number would be 5 to 8 routes. It's not too many, but there's also not too little variety.
