What's an otome game trope that you didn't like initially but eventually grew on you?

For me, I initially hated the yandere trope. For years, I couldn't understand why Toma seemed so popular despite that one ending with amnesia, or why people would like such LIs with such questionable behavior. Though recently I've started to get more into the darker games, and I think I'm starting to get it, at least in my own way, lmao.
The more exposure I got, the more it honestly started to grow on me. I've always been a fan of the psychological horror genre in media, and at some point I started to really like well-written, complex yanderes. They're enjoyable when I play them with the intention of getting scared or uncomfortable. Or maybe it's just the exposure therapy talking lmao

Flirty LIs (lol)

Back when I first started playing otome games, I hated flirty LIs so much. They treated everyone equally (giving a "so close, yet so far" feeling), and the thought that I would never be their number one was so irritating. As time went on, I grew to understand them a little better, and now I don't hate this type of LI as much as I used to lol

omg me too! I used to dislike the flirty ones because womanizers are icky, and it feels like they might just be playing with you, which is ew, but they started growing on me eventually too, and I kinda felt bad for judging so quickly. Sometimes they're just sweethearts and balls of joy that attract people, or it's a coping mechanism due to their past 💔

I used to be more into tsunderes and kuuderes my own age, but the older I get, the more I appreciate older guys who are total husband material. 😂 I love it when they're mature and composed, but I also love it when they lose their composure because of the MC. 🥹💕
YES OMG I freaking love older LIs who are mature and so dependable and husband material or even better, wife material. My favorite LI ever is one of those extremely old fossils who look younger than they are, and oh my god, while he isn't a tsundere or a kuudere or a yandere, he's moooostly normal and not really super expressive, BUT he IS the definition of reliability and security. Plus, my guy can cook, bake, housekeep, is a walking textbook of knowledge, and was chosen by the cat distribution system. Head.over.heels. Anyways, I call him wife because oooough (⸝⸝๑ ̫ ๑⸝⸝⸝) (I lost it when I saw that official art of him in an apron cooking)

There's really someone that perfect out there!? Now I can't help butwonder who it is! I'm trying to guess! Ishe from a fantasy series,by any chance? He sounds like such a wonderful person! 😄

I used to dislike "super-sadistic" (do-S) or "yandere" characters too! But now, I absolutely love them! Of course, I wouldn't be able to handle them in real life, but perhaps as time has passed, I've come to enjoy them within the context of fictional works.

At first I didnt like foul mouthed LIs who'd treat MC terribly and call her all sorts of names, then i realised the only reason I didnt like it was because the mc was a dumb doormat most of the time. When I transitioned to otome CDs where the heroine didnt have an overpowering voice it felt easier to tolerate these guys without feeling like just a mindless punching bag, and it let me appreciate the LIs more and recognise how interesting they actually are!!

its so much more interesting having an LI that doesnt immediately fall for you and makes for a cool set-up of this slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers story. It has amazing potential for some delicious angst and some "wait, do I actually care about this idiot?" moments that I EAT UP IMMEDIATELY!! its also just feels more raw and realistic to see two troubled, flawed individuals gradually open up to eachother and it just feels so satisfying as opposed to a million "fated soulmates" tropes that we see constantly!

Its cael from lovebrush chronicles ❤️❤️❤️ I fell on first site back in 2020 when the game first released before it even got localized and then when it finally got localized I fell even harder ( ⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝)
And its indeed a fantasy game! Its mobile but the story aspect is almost identical to handheld otomes.

I've heard of Lovebrush Chronicles because the illustrations are so beautiful! I checked out Cael on the website and saw that he was 19, so I thought, "Oh, he's younger than I expected!" 😄 But then I found out that his age is unknown in the parallel worlds, which surprised me!

He looks so lovely, and now I'm getting interested in the game too! ❤️

Probably not the same thing as what's being asked, but for a long time I felt obligated to dislike age gap and brother routes (even though I liked them on the inside). Playing Black Wolves Saga forced me to accept that it's okay to just like what I like!

When I was first getting into otome years ago, I used to hateee tsunderes. I suppose my initial bias, from not liking them in anime made me automatically cringe. My thought process was "if you like them, why are you acting like you hate them?"

My opinion of them now has done a complete 180 compared to back then lol. Now, I'm a total sucker when it comes to emotionally constipated LI.
