Hii, this is kind of a general question but I was wondering what kind of otome games people here prefer? By that, I mean whether you generally prefer more light-hearted stories or more life-or-death stories. I personally get a bit bored when I read stories based on light-hearted comedy, but I know there's a ton of fans for that! I realize the question is a bit vague, but what's the community here looking like?

The poll is multiple choices because I know some people will love everything!

i tend to lean more towards the plot heavy games, especially if there's action and there are plenty of tense moments in the game with blood and violence, it js adds more to the thrill and i find that i get lost in that kind of atmosphere and story-telling very easily. some primary examples are Collar x Malice and Piofiore gosh i wish i could play both games for the first time again

yes i love to suffer

I have polar preferences: crazy comedies without any logic and pure plot (but only if it's well written), when writers remember they are writing romance only near the end and go "eh, main characters didin't kiss, but at least we have saved the world, let's stop here". I also read anything in between as long as it's good XD

Need something with stakes!!! But also I dont want it to be so plot heavy that I barely get any romantic character interactions, it has to be a really fine balance

When im feeling masochistic ill dabble in pure plot and suffering but after shuuen no virche im still recovering so #neveragain 😭

I enjoy any kind of atmosphere created in otome games. I'm particularly intrigued by complex plots, ones filled with mysteries that make you think hard and even come up with theories about the story, or at least plots where you can trace the past of each love interest, which turns out to be linked to each other.

I really like the atmosphere in games like 9 R.I.P. I love mysterious vibes because they make me curious and keep me wanting to continue playing. I'd love more games with that kind of atmosphere. I'm really into detective, mystery, and slightly creepy themes.

I prefer serious, story-driven otome games. However, I don't like it when the plot takes so much priority that the romance is barely present. I want the romance to be an important part of the story as well. As long as the romantic development is written with care and there's a good balance between the story and the romance, I can generally enjoy a wide variety of genres.

I really like stories with a lot of drama—I enjoy suffering and crying (I know it sounds weird)—but in the end, after all that suffering, it has to be worth it. Basically, I want to feel my heart breaking and a lump in my throat, but I also want a true happy ending that makes me feel like everything I went through was worth it. I like that kind of thing because there are so many shoujo manga (where the more drama there is, the better the manga is)—complex stories that might be very simple at first glance but have intricate plots. And that's why I prefer otome games that make you cry, laugh, wonder what will happen, and feel like you need answers—and that's why you have to keep going. Personally, I don't mind if there's lighthearted comedy, but I do have a preference for drama because that's what motivates me most to keep playing a game. And when I finish and rate it, I really take into account how much drama and complexity it had.

I enjoy plot a lot! However, if the game is fluffy, I would prefer that it stays fluffy. I'll feel really bad if horrible things happen when the atmosphere was originally so calm and idyllic

I selected all the options when voting. I can actually accept all types of otome games! I really enjoy games with exciting storylines and exquisite art styles, so I am not limited to any genre. Every time, I can experience different story types of games, which is a very novel gaming experience. If the game type is single, I think it will be very boring.

I prefer some heavy plot with a lot drama and cry in the end. Also i like some horror atmosphere in games. My 5 fav favorite otome is Hakuoki, Shuuen no Virche ,9rip, Scarlet Fate 4 and Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly. And im not fun of comedy otome games.

I like heavy, serious plots.Actually, I'd like the story to tell a more serious and meaningful tale or world-building.

depends on my mood! ✧٩(•́⌄•́๑)و ✧

sometimes, i like to just turn my brain off and play a cute love story, but there's an appeal to being sucked into a world that grips you and does not let off the pedal the whole time.

i agree with the sentiment that if i'm playing an otome, romance should be the forefront for me. plot can be beautiful but if i've got no connection to a character or they to me, i will lose the inclination to play.
(´・ε・`)

i do however really love dark atmospheric games that allow the levity to flourish, like homicipher or ebon light.

i wish there were more SPOOKY otome games. i wanna be scared and consoled by the LI, not just depression dark games, if that makes sense.(˶′◡‵˶)

I vote pure fluff / comedy! Serious plot is good when im in the mood for it but most of the time I want to relax and just have fun without thinking too hard.
