What is your go-to audio format and why?

I prefer the MP3 format because it has a sound quality that I consider more than sufficient. Compared to the other formats, I personally don't perceive such a big difference when listening to them. In addition, MP3 takes up much less space. 🎀
 
I usually do FLAC or OGG. Shaves the space down from wav by like half sometimes.
 
Since my storage space is limited, I listen to drama CDs and the like in MP3 format. I'd love to enjoy them in the best possible sound quality—after all, it's a "one-size-fits-all" solution—but unfortunately, that's not possible. The problem lies with my storage and playback devices.
There are just so many codec formats to choose from that it's really confusing 😟
What does the future hold for these formats? It would be truly sad if, after going to all that trouble to save them, I couldn't play them back later!
In any case, I need to keep taking good care of my hearing so that I can continue to distinguish even the slightest nuances in sound.
 
I use only mp3. It's high-quality enough for me to not care and small in size. My storage is always on the edge, so using anything else would just kill it.
 
I'd pick WAV first if I have the choice — it just sounds clearer to me, even though the files are way bigger. But if there's no WAV available, I'll settle for MP3.
But I've noticed that WAV files are almost always over 2000 kbps, while MP3s are around 100 kbps or so. That's a huge difference.
Isn't higher bitrate supposed to mean clearer sound?
Still, I guess only people with really sensitive hearing can tell the difference — and maybe it also depends on the speakers or headphones.
 
When I save files for myself, I only keep them in MP3 format — WAV files just take up way too much space, and my storage is already crying for help.

But if I'm sharing files with others, I'll pack both MP3 and WAV together, so they can choose whichever they prefer ^ ^

wav for sure. Even if the file size is much bigger, I'd rather have the best sound quality possible. 320 kbps mp3 is also fine If no wav is available, but anything below that is just noticably worse in quality.
 
When I listen on my smartphone, I use MP3 files.
Since smartphones have limited storage, I think lightweight MP3s are the best option.
When I listen on my PC, I use FLAC or WAV files.
Since I can add as many hard drives as I want to my PC, storage isn't an issue, so I prioritize high sound quality.
To be honest, there are times when I can't tell the difference between MP3 and FLAC, but I'd still like to listen with the best possible sound quality if I can, haha.

I use flac if it's possible! I don't care about quality, but i just like keeping my music as flac for some reason (storage isn't an issue because i don't have a huge library, just a couple hundred songs)
 
i would delete the wav folders and keep the mp3 ones to save space
of course I wish i can can keep them all in wav format but the file sizes can get ridiculously large to the point of occupying more disk space than my games, the size ratio must be game>audio
 
I use MP3 because of its great compatibility and storage savings. Honestly, I can't hear any difference between it and other audio formats.😂
 
I'm not super picky about formats, but I usually stick with MP3s to save space. I know WAVs are technically 'better,' but with most otome CDs, the difference is so subtle you'd barely notice it anyway for me!

MP3 only because of the smaller size compared to the others and the audio staying decent for listening.
 
I genuinely can't hear the difference between audio formats, so I guess that's a testament to me either not having the greatest sound equipment, or simply just having bad ears. Either way, due to that I'd rather just stick to MP3s for myself and maximize my available storage space. If I wanted to share something I'd share the highest quality format available though; sharing is caring after all.
 
Because the storage was full, I deliberately lowered it to 128kbps and 192kbps. I didn't know much difference in my ears, so I thought it would be fine, but I regret it a little.



M4a.mp3, etc. are also mixed, and they are completely disjointed. When sharing, it seems that high sound quality is recommended, so when collecting in the future, I will try to use 320kbps of mp3.
 
I usually listen to music on my phone with Bluetooth headphones. Since my phone doesn't have enough storage space, I always use the MP3 format to save space, even though the WAV format offers a better listening experience 🥲

🌸 Omg, okay, let me just confess something that is actually so embarrassing, To be completely honest, I can't even tell the difference between all those fancy formats anyway! To me, everything sounds exactly the same!!

😩But actually my Brain is melting... The only audio format my tiny brain actually understands is literally just standard MP3!!🌸

I only save WAV files for some of favorite titles or the titles that already deleted by the circle bc we all know WAV format just take up some space so my storage couldn't keep it up, and the rest of them are MP3 format. For me, it doesn't bother me to choose either MP3/FLAC/M4A focusing on audio quality even though I consider myself an audiophile but I aware of maintaining my hearing health
 
I always listen to audio files in MP3 format. Besides the smaller file size, it doesn't take up much space, and importantly, I have a Walkman that's almost 10 years old and still works. Early electronic devices had limited storage, so MP3 was just right.

For videos, I prefer MP4; I'm used to it.

I have like two external hard drives, so I could download lossless files with no problem. Though, I still prefer mp3 and m4a files since they're smaller and it's expensive to buy storage nowadays so I would rather spend my storage on things I really, really care about. I also don't have the equipment to take advantage of the lossless format, so I can't exactly hear the difference between lossy and lossless audio unless the lossy audio's quality is super bad lol
 
I usually upload everything to google drive to listen on my phone too so it's always MP3 because it saves a lot of storage and playable on iOS. I don't even store SE-less versions in order to half the storage space needed for 1 CD 💀.
 
My main issue is when a mp3 is ~128 and lower because on my headphones (they aren't super high tech more mid range? Like $80) it usually sounds muffled *and* there are certain scenes where I end up hearing a metal scraping type noise (I don't know a better way too describe it) but it's literally painful for me. :( so it's pretty depressing for me when it's 2026 and people are still compressing the audio THAT much. It's not been a noticeable issue in higher bitrate mp3s... but please try not to compress the files THAT much because they are unusable for some ^^;
