What is the one feature you wish EVERY SINGLE otome game had?

Personally, I wish every single otome game had a default canon name for the MC.

To add on to that though - I LOVE it when the voice actors say the MC's name if you use the canon name.

I don't know why but I really hate it when theres a pause where the MC name should be said.

What one feature do you absolutely wish every single otome game had?

I agree! I absolutely love voiced heroines!
For me otome is like watching a story unfold in front of me the same way when I'm reading manga or watching anime so I don't care much for self insert.
Also with the name thing yeah I don't like it when there just like "anata" to MC or there's a pause. When the heroine has a name theres also cute nicknames too so it makes the story at least to me richer.

I'm the opposite. I don't care about default canon names, and always change them. so I also don't mind when there aren't any.

I wish more otome games had the thing tokimeki memorial girl's side had where the characters could say the player's name HAHA it's quite lovely. Though ig that can be quite limited in a way too. I'd like a system like that but more flexible for more names I guess lmao. it's just a dream tho.

On the other hand... the skip to next choice function!! I think it's more common in modern games? But I've found they're lowkey buggy sometimes too, like in 9RIP orz I also would love it if more games had more than one stat? to care for outside of affinity with a character. Amnesia had something like that iirc, I haven't finished it yet. Birushana also has this! I think it could add more variety to storytelling and gameplay TwT

OH WAIT I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS related to the name thing: more otome games should have nicknames for the MC!! Like how in piofiore Liliana/whatever name you change it to has Lili/Whatever nickname you change it to. Lowkey I love this type of nickname, and I can only think about utapri's first game that also had this mechanic? I'd love to see it more often :3

It's important to me to be able to adjust the volume of each character's voice because sometimes I find it physically difficult to listen to sounds I don't like. There's one voice actor whose voice I almost always have to turn down to the minimum because it literally makes me sick when I hear his voice😭

ohh:0 curious. do you mind sharing who this va is?

Highkey agree with loving it when the mc's canon name's voiced!
Also really wish more games showed the mc's sprite! They're always so cute and I want to see their expressions throughout the story

I also LOVE when the heroine is voiced!

And being able to adjust de volume of voices separately is also very welcome, even at the same volume, there's voices I hear higher than others, so I would like to adjust them at my hearing xD

i also love when mc's name is voiced. there's some otome games like error143 and our life, where you can choose from a group of voiced names, which is cool!

another feature would be the ability to go back/rollback to the previous dialogue (common with renpy vns) or voiced backlogs/history. sometimes i like to replay scenes right after its played but i haven't saved so i have to load from an old save TT

YES the skip function is so important especially if I want to complete a game 100%. I really like the skip to next choice option BUT sometimes it lags too much and I prefer skip just in case there was extra dialogues that get unlocked later on and I at least can read it.

I totally agree on MC's name being voiced by the LIs. I love having voiced heroines as well, it just adds to any given scene! I also really love when the MC has a side portrait, I like seeing her react!

omg yes, the skip function has never lagged in any game for me. skip read my beloved for 100%ing games <3 Love when completing routes adds new extra stuff, some replayability is always appreciated lol!

A backlog is a feature that most otome games have, but it's a must-have.
I sometimes accidentally skip over it, but some games don't have a backlog, which is inconvenient.
Also, I think it would be great if it had Live2D!

Please, give the MC a voiceover!!! Back in the day, there were at least a few otome games where the MC was voiced, but now it's become painfully rare. It's bearable during the slice-of-life moments, but when it comes to intense, romantic, or tragic scenes... having only the male lead speak feels like he's just talking to himself, even though he's clearly pouring his heart out to the MC.

There are so many pivotal moments where I desperately want to hear the MC respond or call out to him. Just imagine hearing the two of them interact with the background music kicking in, it would be so much more fulfilling and immersive than just listening to a one-sided conversation.

That's exactly why I never change the MC's default name. At least that way, I can still hear the leads actually say her name, if I change it, they just go silent

I wish there would be official released guides to every otome game existing (yes, they're the most common feature to have, but when the vn is really old or niche, it's feels like you're walking through a mist to get the 'best ending' or the ending you would like to get). Of course, it would be nice to have like a 'turn on/off' button, or a first run in blind, and then you'd get the option to look at the guide.

I dunno, i just really enjoy looking at extras, and if those extras do help you knowing more of the LIs and lore, I'm on it 。◕‿◕。.

For me it's definitely a voiced MC with a canon name. I know some people prefer full self-insert, but during emotional scenes it really takes me out when the LI is pouring his heart out and the MC just… doesn't respond out loud. It starts to feel like he's monologuing. I always keep the default name just so I can hear them say it, the silence when you change it is painful lol.

I also really want a skip function that actually works. Skip read / skip to next choice is a lifesaver when you're trying to 100% a game, but some games are so buggy with it that I end up just manually fast-forwarding anyway. A clear flowchart would be amazing too °

Something I don't see mentioned much is wanting endings to feel properly earned. Like, fewer "one wrong choice = bad ending" moments and more routes where your decisions throughout actually build toward the outcome. It makes replaying way more satisfying and makes the romance feel more natural instead of mechanical ~

MC portraits, voiced backlogs, separate voice volume sliders… all of those are huge bonuses too. But yeah, if I had to pick one thing, it's letting the MC feel like an actual person in the scene instead of a silent placeholder :alice_hmm:

I really wish the MC had voice acting. When I play otome games, I don't easily self-insert; it's more like reading a story or experiencing an audio drama. As far as I know, in most cases where the MC has voice acting, the game is usually rated for adults (laughs) — that's when the MC needs to make sounds.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but this is Yuuichirou Umehara.........
There is no otome game player who doesn't hate this voice actor. As soon as they see him in the cast, the game immediately drops a tier in their eyes.

Is this really true?.. 😭 All this time I thought the problem was me, not him, but now your words made me think.........

My dear, there's absolutely nothing wrong with your perspective. In the Chinese-speaking otome game community, if Yuuichirou Umehara is cast as a love interest, everyone would be upset. Even if he's only voicing a sub-character, it would still make me quite uncomfortable. His voice acting skills are remarkably poor — he hasn't shown any improvement over the years, and his voice is often compared to a cow's mooing (this isn't slander, but a widely acknowledged fact among Chinese otome players).

His involvement in a game diminishes the appeal of otherwise wonderful love interests. We only breathe a sigh of relief when we see he's not in the cast list of a new title.

-Skip text that has already been read but automatically stopping when new things happen
-The option to keep or hide the mc sprite
-And anything that tells me if im doing the wrong or right choices or who im about to get the route of, i like to play without guides so i love when im not completely blind on what im doing
