What got you interested in otome games?

What got me interested was the characters. I loved their designs and personalities.

I think I was somewhat similar. I had a strong longing for romance in real life, but actually getting close to someone felt scary and embarrassing. So I think otome games gave me a safe way to experience romance.



Especially when you're a teenager, you tend to see romance as something very pure and beautiful, don't you? Even though I knew otome games weren't the same as real life, I think their appeal was that they let me experience being treated kindly and feeling special in a safe space.

Looking back on it now, maybe it wasn't so much real romance itself that I wanted, but the feeling of being cherished by someone in that kind of way.

I got into otome games by being huge into anime and romance, which led me to finding otome games by complete accident (a very good accident)!

It was only when I grew older that the plotlines spoke deeply to my personal feelings and dreams, which made me really emotionally connected to the genre - its audience, creators, all the people that make it so magical. Now I like otome both for the hot anime men, its community (where we all share the same love) and the creative, profound titles that touch your heart deeply.

At first, it was definitely the art style that caught my attention. I've always loved anime-style artwork, so I was immediately interested. But what really made me stay was the fact that the protagonist was a woman. There are already so many games with male protagonists, so I really appreciate having games that are centered around a female main character for a change.

I used to like RPGs, but ever since discovering otome games, I've only played them.

What gotten me into otome games is probably the seiyuus work AND the visual (+ the stories for sum ) since i'm a huge seiyuu fan i really love listening or hearing my faves seiyuus in games,animes cte so when i first played my first otome ( without knowing it was one ) and heard tetsuya's voice i just had to get into more of his games and more otomes in general being a hugeee romantic who never experienced love…

What got me into otome games was reading a novelization of one.

I picked it up without knowing that it was based on a game, but I really enjoyed the story and got completely hooked. I started wondering if there was more to the story, so I looked it up and found out that there was actually a game!

That made me want to play it, and that's how I got into otome games.

Even though I didn't start playing until years later, I did try some easily accessible and free mobile games in between. The genre always stayed in the back of my mind until my language skills were good enough to pick up more games, since neither English nor Japanese is my first language.

I got hooked because otome games gave me opportunity to try different types of routes. I was really frustrated while read manga before finding otome games. I didn't really like who MC chose in the reverse harem, so finding otome games was my salvation

I was already into anime/manga/games but I was always wanting more things aimed at girls/women. The majority anime/manga/games are focused on the male experience and spend a lot of time sexualising/degrading women. This was conflicting as a young girl as I loved watching anime and reading manga and playing games but I felt alienated.
That's why I loved shoujo/anime so much once I discovered they existed. Same thing for otome games, I just wish we had as many otome games localised as dating sims aimed at men.
I love any game with an option to play as a female protagonist, especially if there are romance options. I'm a huge fan of Fire Emblem, Persona 3 Portable, Rune Factory, Harvest Moon, etc.

The male characters around the MC. There are other media where there are men, but it's content for free interpretation where you will find ships without women, though in particular I prefer the center on a single woman aka the MC. So the games fulfilled my reverse harem dream hahah

this question actually made me think for a while because i genuinely don't remember lmaooo playing otome games and games with romance elements is just so natural to me that i feel like they've always been there. i grew up playing games ever since i was little, starting with just a ps2. there were already a few vns available in my country for the ps2 back then, and pretty much all of them were in english. unfortunately, english isn't my first language and i was just a kid, so i'd force my brother to play them for me while i watched him lol

probably when i got my first phone as a teenager, i started playing more games like that, starting with genius inc games (i personally hated them because all the good choices were locked behind diamonds). then i found this mobile game called ikemen prince, and thanks to that game i actually started learning english :) one thing led to another and now here i am lol i guess what initially caught my attention was the fact that i grew up playing vns and i've always loved romantic stories
