What do you think of 3D Otome games

Personally, I think it's quite difficult to make a good 3D otome game, and there aren't many of them on the market right now. The only ones I know of are Toraware no Palm and Love and Deepspace, and I personally prefer the former. The advantage of 3D otome games is that the expressions and movements are much more vivid—it's no longer just the same few character sprites switching back and forth, and the interactions can potentially be richer? But I think that, at this point, there isn't really much of a difference between 3D and 2D in otome games. It doesn't feel like the qualitative leap you see in non-otome / mainstream games.

For otome games, the focus is still on the story and character development. Whether it's 3D or 2D is just an external presentation format. If done well, it's the icing on the cake, but it can't compensate for a weak plot—it can't turn things around when the story falls flat.

I dont think its bad but I honestly think 2D is livelier and more expressive 3D. Dont get me wrong LADS has great graphics but it just seems to be missing the zest of 2D VNs, I dont quite know how to explain it. Maybe its because in 2D you can just draw sprites or CGs and easily capture different facial expressions without needing to worry about the physics of 3D modelling, which can make characters feel stiff. And I also just feel like 2D is prettier overall!!

3d looks nice but I like 2d more.
With 2d devs have more resources for story.

As mentioned in another similiar thread, even though I lean more strongly towards 2D, I don't mind 3D. Though, there's only like three 3D otomes (other than the ones listed earlier, there's also Silent Whispers coming soon). Maybe my thoughts are going to be a bit different once a lot more come out since it's going to be hard to compare like a few 3d otome to the many 2d otome.

The 3D characters in otome games are quite lifelike and realistic, almost like interacting with real people. They even blink, speak, and have dialogue.
Their hair, clothes, and even the backgrounds are just like in the real world.

I prioritize the game's script; character illustrations are secondary. As long as the body proportions aren't exaggerated, that's enough.

I'd love to say it doesn't matter, but 3D feels a bit uncanny and too self-insert for my tastes, at least for otome games where these characters modeled to be handsome ikemens for fans to fall in love with. I don't have a problem with 3D in regular video games.

Agreed ngl, it also just feels a little bit too realistic and--for me-- I play otome games to escape from reality BAHAH

3D has its strengths, and 2D has its own merits too. 3D feels more realistic and immersive, but that's only when the 3D modeling is well done,it really depends on the quality of the modeling. As for 2D, I feel that as long as the artist is skilled, any character illustration or CG can look fantastic. That said, I primarily value the story above all else,no matter how beautiful the art style is, it can't outweigh a compelling core narrative.

I would like to see a non-mobile game in 3D. There are only very little 3D games at the moment and all are mobile games with microtransactions. I think 3D is interesting and can look very pretty and immersive, but i am not a fan of the games, that are out at the moment. I would not like for 3D games to replace the 2D ones or anything like that, because i like my 2D games, but i would like to see some good 3D games without microtransactions. I think it would be interesting!

3D models feel too realistic when done well, and that's uncomfortable for me. I don't really like them, but I see the appeal for those who do. Still, I prefer 2D and a well-written story.

I agree with everyone being put off by realistic 3D models. Graphics are just the presentation for everything in a game but anything that resembles real people often ends up being uncanny valley to me. Not my first choice. If something is 3D modeled for an otome, I prefer the anime/manga-style over everything.

I'm honestly pretty open to them. The only 3D otome I've really played is Love and Deepspace, and I think it looks great. So if it's done well, I definitely enjoy it.
That said, I also feel like it's much harder (and probably a lot more expensive) to make good-looking 3D characters. With 2D art, it's a lot easier to get a consistently beautiful style, so I think it'll always have its place.

3d /could/ be good, but i think you'd need to do some perspective tricks to make it look "sort of" 2d to get something really good.

For me, both are enjoyable. I love how I can see the characters interact with "me" in 3D. It feels like the focus on 3D otome game is the character himself. While in a 2D otome game, the focus is on the overall art and mood.

3D feels a bit uncanny for me most of the time, so I prefer 2D. However, I feel it works well with LADs so I guess that one is okay for me? Then again, the 3D there is really well done.

3d looks weird and uncanny if its realistic. 2d are good because not all li looks the same, and the character design are more diverse as well.

I prefer the 2D style. The current 3D technology seems a bit ordinary to me, and the movements are not particularly smooth. I feel that 2D can better express the characters' emotions. Currently, for costume-changing games, I would prefer 3D, as it can fully showcase the costumes.

I have only played Love and Deepspace for 3D, and the upcoming Silent Whispers looks very uncanny valley to me visually. My main priority for otome games is the storytelling and lore, which was lacking from the sparse updates due to the presumably high costs for making 3D graphics for LADS. So, for otome games, 2D seems like a safer bet and stylized art can also withstand the test of time better, while 3D graphics will show its age after a few years.

3D might be good. But the problem is that the art is kind of weird. I am someone who still need the art to immerse the game. So, I will go with 2D game for now.

One of the main reasons I was never really drawn to LADS is the graphics, but I'm not sure if it's because of the 3D in and of itself or if I just don't like that particular art style. They look too realistic for my taste haha and also a bit too similar to one another from what I've seen
