What do you think about characters who smoke?

I can't help it, I really love watching characters who smoke. I see a certain aesthetic in it.

Omg yes, literally this!! I detest cigarettes irl, but on a 2D man? Instant +100 to sexiness lmao. There's just something about that tired, brooding aura—the flick of a lighter, the soft exhale close to the mic in drama CDs, or when he looks away so the smoke doesn't hit you. Total gap moe, it gets me every single time.

I don't really have any strong opinions about characters who smoke, and I don't pay much attention to it. In real life, I'm not a big fan of smokers either—I especially hate people who smoke while walking. I don't want to breathe in secondhand smoke, and it's bad for my health. However!!! Sometimes, when I see scenes depicting characters smoking—whether through the voice actor's performance or in CG—I do find myself really drawn to them. I totally agree that certain atmospheres and emotional nuances can only be conveyed in those smoking scenes. Plus, there are certain expressions and performances that only smoking characters can pull off. Sometimes, the gestures involved in smoking carry hidden meanings—like taking a puff and then blowing the smoke onto someone else—which is just so sexy.

I actually hate cigarette smell and smoke, but maybe because I only hear it in the drama CD, the sound of lighting the cigarette and blowing smoke—combined with the voice actor's breath and smoke—makes it feel sexier Strangely, the sound of smoking has a calming effect on both the mind and body, at least audibly, haha

I feel the same way! I tend to feel uncomfortable around smokers even if they're people close to me. I really dislike the smell they leave behind when they walk past.
It is strange, though, how someone can seem so wonderful when viewed through the eyes of the protagonist.

I really hate smoking in real life, but I'm totally fine with fictional characters doing it. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like a character smoking has a uniquely decadent yet sexy charm, especially in voice dramas! And most importantly, in fictional stories, you don't have to worry about any of its side effects at all!

Yessssss!! In real life it's just so gross and all of the negative health impacts are just terrible. But in games and drawings and drama CDs ahhh.... There's really something about it! I even have a character that I draw a lot whenever I get a craving for cigarette smokers isdhfgjregyfhj.

In fiction, smoking is like an accessory that enhances a mysteriousness of the character, mature aura, and slightly mischievous charm, making it seem very appealing.
In reality, however, while I don't object to them smoking as long as they observe proper manners and etiquette, I would prefer they quit, given the health risks.

I feel like there's been a lot more emphasis on the harmful effects of smoking, and smoking scenes in live-action media seem to be becoming less common. But in anime and other two-dimensional media, smoking still seems to be a pretty common character trait.

Maybe having a cigarette hanging from their mouth while they stare off into the distance is supposed to give a character a sense of drama or a kind of decadent vibe? Smoking itself doesn't really appeal to me, but I personally like compositions where a character has something in their mouth, so I might actually like it in an illustration.

Cigarettes don't really do it for me, either in real life or in games. But I love when characters pull off that classic smoking aesthetic using something fake, like biting on a lollipop.

I love a good character that smokes ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ but can't stand it in real life either...for some reason in fiction it's okay to just forget about the bad side effects of things haha.

If you ask me, it's just like being drawn to a guy who's a little mean and cocky even things that would just annoy me in real life can seem appealing in games or voice recordings
To be honest, I really like characters who smoke

It's acceptable if it's merely a minor detail in the game and not brought up repeatedly throughout the story. However, if it's referenced constantly as a core trait of the characters or a key plot element, it can feel uncomfortable. It tends to make people involuntarily think of smoking in real life.
