What do you think about BL elements appearing in otome works?

true lmao! for non-loli/shota they usually use the "just age them up together with you" shit, which is funny because it comes dangerously close to the proshipping territory, which they fucking HATE lol. also the whole concept of "im turning 18 tomorrow but my f/o is 16 what do i do D:" being a genuine problem is a little funny from the outside perspective. just a little though
It is so funny, though! And I don't fuck with the anti or pro-ship stuff. A lot of the pro-ship people are similar to the "omnivores" that just eat everything and see you as inferior for not liking something. Yes, I love shota and incest but I won't like something simply because it includes those (ㆆ_ㆆ)
ALSO YES TRUE the mistagging is definitely malicious in A LOT of cases. this has been discussed in another thread i think but when people deliberately draw bl featuring CHARACTERS FROM OTOME and then PUT IT INTO OFFICIAL TAGS and then have the audacity to get upset when being told theyre in the wrong its so?? bad????? do people not know the basic fandom etiquette anymore or do they just not care????????
This was how I felt when I was more into LADS and would see BL of the LIs despite there being a literal guideline against that. They claim that no one polices derivative works so you're free to do whatever you want but when something actually does address it…

I'd also like to ask, if you can't have anything not-straight in an otome game, then does that mean Chou no Doku Hana no Kusari isn't otome either? Because there's a lesbian route in it and no one complains about "yuri elements" even though that's an actual route (though not obligatory) and not just a side character. I personally don't care for it but wouldn't say that it harms the game in any way, lady Kyoko is an interesting character and certainly better for the MC than some of the guys...

(This was all said by someone with a BL profile pic lol)
First of all, the definition of an otome game is a story centered on a female protagonist developing romantic relationships, so yuri (girls' love) content actually fits that definition(And yuri elements are also very rare in otome games, aren't they? That's also because people don't like them). BL content clearly violates it, that's false advertising, If the two male leads end up falling for each other, then what is the heroine supposed to be, Just a camera recording their romance? 👿
Imagine in real life, if a girl is tricked into marrying a gay man' how tragic her fate would be, Her husband would never love her, and she'd end up nothing more than a tool for bearing children, Apply this to the heroine of an otome game, If her male love interest falls in love with another man, then she'll most likely end up in the same tragic situation. So, we must firmly oppose the appearance of BL storylines in otome works. 👿

oh true! this is an issue overall because like, even among proshippers there are people who like incest but dont like rape for example. or maybe they like necrophilia but dont like lolisho. and for some reason these people get soft-bullied for it?? are people seriously not allowed to have personal tastes anymore??
even among lolisho works, despite me being a massive lolicon and a yuributa, i didnt like wataten, because its barely even yuri! it just reads as your most generic cgdct.. and i love cgdct dont get me wrong, but when i dont even get what i was advertised, im not gonna like it anyway just because it includes one element i like..;;

they can always argue that teh guideline is homophobic and if you try to insist that its the norm, especially in the chinese otome scene, you get labeled as everything -phobic and -stic under the sun LMAO. people really need to pick up reading again, its a great hobby actually

I've never seen BL elements in otome games but would like to understand why people are always saying that this is a problem.

For example, in Virche Evermore,
it is very clear that Hugo has a crush on Yves
but I do not consider this a "BL element" at all and honestly would like more of intercharacter relationships like these, even bisexual MLs. In VE's case the ML isn't even bisexual and doesn't learn of his friend's feelings so I really don't understand why people hate it so much and do think it's a bit homophobic.
Some may disagree but I think Hugo has all the right to hate the MC. some people say they hate him because he hates her and even kills her in one of the bad ends, but she's literally the cause of Yves's scar and the discrimination he faces from others, if you were him you would hate her too. I think it's quite homophobic if I may say so, as if it was the MC being in love with him and feeling hatred for someone who, despite unwillingly, caused him pain, everyone would understand it as the complicated slightly irrational feelings they are.
this was a huge problem because not only there were bl elements that were never even advertised (and the gay crush was confirmed in the artbook, WHICH PEOPLE ALREADY PAID FOR) AND they involved a literal poster boy, but also the way this h*go character treated the literal HEROINE, the one that the readers are supposed to project onto/self-insert into (since this is the entire point of the otome genre), is kinda blasphemous. just as blasphemous as having a female rival in a bl game

and no, people hating on h*go is not homophobic. if he is a disgusting character that hates you/the heroine, why would you not hate him in return? no matter if the heroine was "responsible" for some accident in the past or not. also, no heroine has ever expressed similar hatred towards anyone in any game that this fuckass character expressed towards her, over the dumbest shit ever. like okay, you have a crush? cool, confess it or fuck off with your active aggressiveness^^ genuinely skill issue
also, if anything, following your logic, arent you calling people homophobic for hating h*go simply because he happened to be gay? if he wasnt one, am i wrong to assume you would hate him just like others do?

people do, actually! just not to this extent. just like yuki3548 said, otome games feature stories told through a woman's eyes. these are stories written for women, by women, about women. its only natural to portray any sort of personal relationship that the heroine gets involved in. but even then, yuri routes are not a hard requirement for otome, since otome still are about gxb romance. and if there are multiple yuri routes, then its barely even otome anymore. is it really a crazy thing to say?

I'd argue that the way authors treat and write this competition in games is homophobic and biphobic too. The inclusion of these jealously plotlines has always felt off to me. And that even extends to the rival girls in these games too, except in that case its typically misogyny from either Otome or BL authors.
