What are your thoughts on "heavy gravity" characters in otome games?

Unlike yandere types, gravity characters are the kind who devote themselves wholeheartedly to you, asking only for a single glance of your favor in return. They would pay any price just to have you look their way—quietly jealous, secretly shedding tears, but never daring to get angry at you, much less hurt you.

What do you all think of this archetype? Do you find it particularly appealing, or does the intensity feel a bit too overwhelming? And have any of you encountered this kind of "gravity" character in the otome games you've played?

Personally, I really like this type of character. Unlike a yandere, who can become controlling or even hurt others because of their obsession, characters with this kind of "extreme devotion" are much more appealing to me because their love is expressed through loyalty and vulnerability. I like that they are willing to give everything for the person they love without resorting to violence or manipulation. I also think that this kind of emotional intensity makes the dramatic moments much more impactful, especially when they try to hide their feelings or suffer in silence. As long as that devotion doesn't completely erase their own personality and the romance is developed in a balanced way, it's an archetype I really enjoy. 🎀

Sounds kinda like worship type lol. Not particularly my interest as a trait specifically though.~ but I like 重い love characters in general.

Never heard or seen this type of character but that shit sounds right up my alley. Please direct me to where I can find characters like this 😻

Sounds nice but I'm not sure I've seen any yet.

I can basically complete this type of character 100% of the time. I really like this type of character, who silently puts in effort without expecting anything in return from the female lead, only hoping that the female lead can see his feelings for her. This kind of man really attracts me. But these types of characters are often the easiest to overlook, but every time I meet them, I am always the first to like them!

I'm yet to see such a character, but sounds like my cup of tea! Does anyone know some? (preferred bl)

For everyone asking where to find such characters - there is Yonaga Soushiro from Jack Jeanne. This guy's love is heavier than a whale and all he does is looking from the side - typical childhood friend character. There's also Mysir from Cafe Enchante - you haven't seen all untill you finish his route x_x Special mention for Lucien from Even if Tempest - at one point he knows that MC is commiting horrible crimes and instead of catching her he commits suicide. Multiple times. If this is not an epitome of heavy character, what is?

And in BL there is Ariake from Ooe, but he is borderline yandere

I really love characters like that. They're always watching over you from afar, just being by your side is enough for them, and their whole reason for living is you. All they want is for you to live happily and healthily. It really brings out all my protective feelings.

One that left a strong impression on me is Kuon Toka from the 9R.I.P. sequel. He's exactly that kind of character — everything he does is for the heroine's sake. When he said with tears in his eyes, "I love you so much it hurts, and I don't want to hurt you. Someone as twisted as me doesn't deserve you." Oh, it's just so heartbreaking — he's such a precious, lovable kid.

I think I have seen this "heavy love" setting character in some TL manga or otome drama CD

Yes! Sou-chan! At first I thought he was going to be a yandere, which really surprised me because Jack Jeanne didn't seem like that type of game (but then again, Sui Ishida's, and by proxy, Shin Towada's works have their fair share of yanderes. Was pleasantly surprised at how Sou-chan just gets upset at himself, and then works hard to become an actor that can stand side-by-side with Kisa, and also how he never tries to stop Kisa from improving, even if that meant her standing as a lead with someone else.

I think for "gravity heavy" love interests, it's sort of important that their self-esteem isn't too low, if that makes sense?

I'm an yandere enthusiast but there's no reason for me to say no with this character type. But it's quite hard to find them since most of the time they will be yandere...

this is one of my favourite genre of characters lol i think it's most commonly seen in childhood friends? i just love it to bit since it scratches the same itch for me as yandere types do but in a much more depressing but surprisingly healthier way?? i also kind of enjoy seeing this type and it's struggles when the mc chooses someone aside from them it's soo painful but so good !

lmao all three of these guys are my favourites from their games !!! sou chan fits the bill so well especially with how obvious his pining and yearning for kisa aside from fall performance which had them as the focus i also adored seeing it in full in the winter performance with how he struggled with the physical closeness of his role with kisa's ^^;; also LUCIEN !!! oh my god no one compares to him the things he went through for ana and the trust he had in her was incomparable </3

other guys i would love to mention would firstly be ankou from virche like he's kind of ceo of intense yearning and the way he doesnt even want anything in return just for his person to be happy TT im one of those people who kind of wished they hadnt given him a route in the fd idk i liked seeing his story being closed with how the first game ended TT

from recent releases kai and ran from un:logical both fall in this category too !! which is also funny when you find out more about their relationship with each other and what i really enjoyed was how even if theyre both this strongly devoted it comes from very different places and reasonings which made their romantic developments really fun !!
since i mentioned a licobits game above i think it's also fair i mention tsuyukusa from uchronia ^^ he definitely falls in this category too and it's honestly what made his route so amusing to me as well as his interactions with the other guys like he truly doesn't care about anything else what matters to most to him always is hinagiku

Personally, I prefer this type than yandere, because yandere are too scary for me.

Another thing I dislike about yandere is that they often involve scenes of confinement. I dislike being confined, whether in a otome or in reality.😭

Maybe it's just my toxic traits rearing their head, but I absolutely love this type of character! Complete wholehearted devotion and affection? Perfect, sign me up right away😂 I'd love to see more of such characters in games tbh, I think I've only seen one, but they were an NPC or like a quick mention in some text-based game I discovered years ago, I can't even remember the name. If you have any reccs, please do share👀

Yeah, that type of character can be overwhelming, but for me it's in a nice kind of overwhelming. I love Yandere's, but not the type that would "kill" me to keep me theirs forever, so a gravity character is right up my alley✨

I don't despise this type of characters at least not as much as i do w yandere characters ( i'm just bad and usually uncomfortable w yanderes sorry ) they're usually ( i said usually ) pretty healthy characters and i see them as dogs really devoted to their masters…so i like them !! ( and they're usually genki golden retriever type of characters so its a + ) BUT when it starts to be too obsessional to the point i, like yanderes start to feel uncomfortable…

yandere fan here and you're speaking my language. ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و

i absolutely LOVE this trope. it always makes me think of a loyal knight and their princess...sigh...♡ ~('▽^人)

this also seems to be the type to be whiny, whimpering messes so..again, speaking my language, send me ten of 'em.

going back to the knight aspect, i do see the possiblity of this going the route of overbearing, overprotection and the turmoil that will come with trying to keep MC safe or allowing freedom and trust.

as dogs really devoted to their masters…
yes, please!! it's exactly the type i want~૮⍝• ᴥ •⍝ა

Ah i've never seen this type of character in otome/bl without it being adjacent to yandere/ceo possesive type, if someone have more reccomendation please tell me ! (Also already noted all LI mentioned above, will definitely check them out later)

I actually like this type of character, i designed one of my OC to be this type of heavy love character for my yumeship :) It's really fun seeing a character love one person so intensely without them turning too obsessive or possesive

Ah, I totally misread the title and thought it was about yanderes at first! I didn't know 'gravity characters' meant this specific archetype. Seeing these devoted, low-key submissive boys crying secretly and hiding their jealousy just makes my heart ache for them. 😭
Honestly, I love both! Give me all the yanderes and gravity characters, I'm here for the heavy angst and devotion. Am I being too greedy? Haha.😂

I think the only one mentioned here that I know is Yonaga from Jack Jeanne; he was the first character whose route I played when I finished the game. I didn't actually like the game itself, but he remains one of my favorites—in my opinion, the final play in his version is still the best. Doesn't Gill from Cupid Parasite fit this description well? He is completely, head over heels with Lynette; throughout the route, he watches from the sidelines, feeling like he's missing something that would make her notice him—it's adorable. His love style is the result I got when I took the quiz the first time I played. Allan almost fits into this category too, doesn't he? Bizarrely enough, both of them are my favorites in the game.

I love those characters - it makes me feel kinda special as a player. I like yandere as well, though, I guess I'm just really into the slightly obsessive types.

What about Tsuyukusa and Hiragi from Itehari / Utakata no Uchronia?
Do they count as one too?
Seeing Gil, Ankou and Toka being mentioned made me think about those two.
