What are some fresh concepts/themes you’d like to see used in a new title?

As an example: I think we're in serious need of a mermaid themed otome game. I'm really curious what you guys think could do well as an otome . I'm sure there's a big variety of indie games out there, but I mean what you'd like to see in a bigger title, like one made by otomate.

I wish there were more otomes based on fairytales (specially if those have a dark twist like 'Cinderella Phenomenon') ^_^. We need those mermaid vibe vns!!! Also! I'm interested in vns where we can play as a married (not the arranged one) or widow mc, just for the angst and drama 😌👏

Mermaid otome game (free): Beyond the Deep

Or you can try the Ephemeral games. The first one is voiced and has a merman LI.

The second one is supposed to be all merpeople.

I need an otome that has Roman emperors as LIs, please. Or Greeks gods with an art style similar to Cupid Parasite. I think it'd be a hit.

I would love a Dystopian themed plot heavy otome game! I feel like that would be really cool.

Mermaid themed there is Quinroses Mermaid Gothic that was on psp. It was decent. Quinrose was also famous for doing a lot of fairly tale inspired otome games.

Something like Real Rode where the protagonist ends up in an RPG-style game would be really cool! Since someone here asked for suggestions for sci-fi and cyberpunk-themed otome games, I realized there aren't many games in that style, so I think it would be interesting to see more games like that too. And lastly, I really miss Diabolik Lovers-style games where the LIs are intentionally incorrigible and unhinged. I get the impression that developers lately have been playing it too safe with their releases, to the point that the LIs seem a bit repetitive, at least in my opinion. The closest I've come to fitting the unhinged and dark category of recent games was Ascot from Mistonia's Hope, but even then I felt he was somewhat restrained; only in John's bad ending did we get a glimpse of his dark side.

I would love to see more titles focused on the entertainment industry but from a different perspective. Maybe playing as a manager or a stylist for a group? It would be cool to see the LIs in their "professional" work mode and deal with all the drama that happens behind the scenes.

ooh, this reminded me of "can i not fall for idols?" it's just a humorous short little game (which i enjoyed, though i imagine people can be a bit disappointed if they don't know) but i kept wondering how it'd feel to play a similar game but in a lengthier, more detailed and maybe a little less comedic tone. so i'd like to see that as well!

also maybe teachers\older men concept but mc is also an adult maybe working as a teacher too or something

oh! and mythology ones!!! i mean yeah there are otomes about japanese folklore and gods also kamigami no asobi where every male chara is a god of certain mythology but as a fan of these themes i would be super happy to see more of this concept!

I haven't heard of that game before, but I will definitely have to search it up later! If you are looking for that manager vibe in a longer game, I would recommend the DYNAMIC CHORD series. The heroines are managers for the bands, so it deals with professional drama too. The only exception is apple-polisher, where the MC is actually a singer, but the rest fit that theme perfectly!

If you don't mind mobile otome games, there's a game called Idols of Starlight on the Play Store where the protagonist is the producer of an idol group. I didn't get to play it all since it was barely compatible with my phone and kept crashing and overheating my phone :( But it looks pretty cool (even though the cards seem AI-generated ⊙﹏⊙) and each guy has a route too. The songs are really good, this one is my favorite:

That sounds like an interesting concept! I don't usually play mobile otome games, so I am not sure when I will actually get around to trying it, but I will definitely look it up later.

I wish there were more otome games set in ancient times. It's a bit disappointing that almost all of them are set in the modern era or feature medieval magic.

I am so over the "damsel in distress" trope. I want a total badass, dominant MC who actually calls the shots, maybe even with a dominatrix vibe. A dystopian or cyberpunk setting

I do love fantasy otome but I feel like the genre is saturated with them, I'd love to see more otome with programming/coding aspects (like seekL by robobarbie, Code Romantic). Or even just otome with more difficult logical puzzle-solving/detective aspects (not just Match 3, or picture puzzles)

I'm kind of looking forward to games about Japanese culture, like yōkai or the Meiji era
