Unpopular otome opinions, drop them here!

Personally, I'm a little tired of parody otomes. It was funny the first few times, but at this point it's starting to feel like otome games are treated as something that has to be mocked or not taken seriously by default. I don't mind a game being funny or self-aware, but I miss when a game is allowed to fully commit to its own romance and drama instead of constantly trying to look cool about it.

As much as I like to read, I wish otome games to have more variety than just being visual novels, but that might be budget issues since otome is a niche lol

And maybe for there to be a variety in asethetics, both in art and setting. Like, I've seen a ton of asethetics in a wiki dedicated to showcasing them. Would like to see something like frutiger aero, surrealism, vaporwave, etc.

Yeah, I'm also bored of the fantasy settings as well tbh. I can accept slice of life stories or even mundane modern settings since they can focus a lot more on the writing and relationships. When it comes to fantasy, the writers have to do other things such as some world-building so the writing in the script itself might suffer a bit there.

And I honestly wish their fantasy settings were more creative since there's a lot one one can do with them. Just look at the fantasy subreddit and you'll see that there's more to it than just medieval/olden times and fairy tale stuff lol.
There have been plenty of well-written fantasy stories in the past—even ones set in a world where magic exists alongside reality—but most of them really just establish a framework and some world-building, leaving the content feeling rather hollow…

In contrast, slice-of-life stories focus heavily on interpersonal relationships and emotional developments. In addition to delving deeply into these relationships, there are also romantic comedies, and when paired with a game system, they can be really interesting…

I can't stand parody otomes or even parody visual novels in general for the same reasons tbh. Nor do I like shallow parodies done by people who never played an actual otome game. I wonder how people have time, and maybe budget in a few cases, to make out of spite or chasing trends rather than something they legitmately love.

Yeah, some of my favorite stories happen to be fantasies. Like good fantasy would add more to an already good story, but even a good fantasy can't add to a badly written one. I think fantasy stories are much more focused on their concepts than on their literary/writing aspects, which is fine as long as the writer don't ignore everything else. But I feel like that modern fantasy writers are focusing too much on concepts and maybe designs while ignoring all other aspects such as the writing. If I'm reading a romance fantasy story, I better see a good romance and not just a good fantasy. Else, I might as well just read a slice of life contemporary story that's more likely to focus on the romance.

And, regarding world-building, I've seen people world-build for fun, but never made stories out of their worlds or their stories tend to read like either something very generic or wikipedia articles. So I'm pretty sure world-building and writing are two entirely different things. Would rather have a story and characters that are well written rather than something that occasionally does an info dump things that could have just be put in some kind of supplementary material.
