UI in Otome and BL games: how much does it matter?

A good UI makes me gush about it to my friends, but I would still continue playing when I see bad UI.

Not sure if this counts, but I love Dramatical Murder's UI, especially how the dots on the map on the pause screen shows whose route your heading towards. I just think it works so well with the overall cyber theme of the story!

One of the best visual examples of cyber aesthetics imo. I once saw a steam review saying it was better look than Cyberpunk 2077 (...I agree. There's something off about the style despite being visually impressive.) Nitro Chiral's UI has always suited their games amazingly but Dramatical Murder's continues to be the best to me.

UI adjacent but ooooooooo sweet pool's sound design for when you hover over reason or instinct makes me so so so happy. I really enjoy the care N+C puts into their games. I just wished they could release more often 🥲. There's no news about new games at all they always make me feel like this.

Coming back to this thread again to say that Lamento is so beautiful, the art deco style is so breathtaking. The background for character sprites, to beautiful frames in every scene. Chef's kiss

I don't really consider the UI important when I play games. Of course, it would be nice if it looked pretty and cool.

I didnt realize how much ui design could affect my experience until i played Ikemen Villain. Im not really someone who buys console games, so mostly enjoy games through mods and mobile. At first, i was interested because of the interesting plot concept and how it was designed for mature audience.

But after playing it---- oh my god, the ui was sooo annoying. Theres always loading screen every time i clicked on something. Mannn, so sad i genuinely wanted dive deeper into the game and try each li's stories one by one. But because of the ui, i ended up dropping the game 😓

I really care about a game's UI - it sets my first impression of the game for me.If its UI matches the mood of the story or is just refined enough, I'd consider the game's graphics really high-quality.If the character art is great but the UI is really basic, I'd think this game might be from someone with no experience making games. But I think simplicity doesn't mean shabbiness. I appreciate clean, simple UI but I don't like something that looks sloppy. Some NS games have really slick UIs, but I think that kind of UI is only suitable for consoles, not PC games. If PC games had UIs like that, they'd be way too cluttered.
