the time spent on reading a word game

I have a relatively fast reading speed if I do say so myself (*°∀°)= not super fast, but most visual novels (outside of the massively long ones, ex. umineko) can typically be fully & comfortably completed in under 30 hours. I'm super proud of my english reading pace, but there's nothing wrong with taking longer to read.

not counting vns like higurashi or umineko, if i'm REALLY into one, usually it takes me around a week or two to finish it completely (i remember pulling all-nighters to finish le salute in virche LOL). i think on average it takes me around 40 hours playtime (otomes with around 4-5 routes). though in most cases, i play on-and-off so best case scenario it takes me a month, worst case is that i've put it on pause.

but there's nothing wrong with taking a while to finish a vn! i have to be in a specific mood to actually settle down and read, and sometimes it's just hard to find time

The fastest time I've ever finished a vn was 1 week, but it usually takes me forever to finish a vn because I keep getting distracted. I stop playing, tell myself everyday that i should finish it to start another and then months pass before i finally decide to go back to it.

I don't know how fast or slow my reading is, but I don't think I'm that fast because I want to read carefully and thoughtfully, so I take my time (some people can probably read quickly but still properly but I don't think I can do that, at least that fast). At the very least, I definitely cannot finish reading a whole game in a day or so like these people haha. Even though some stories can be boring, I still try to read properly and process what I am reading (as well as listen to the voice acting to get more context with how the lines are delivered) because I feel like that seems more respectful to the writer for me (no judgement to those who skip, etc, but this is just what I personally feel for myself and try to do). So if there are any plot points etc that I don't get, I stay there and reread it until I comprehend it, which means it's likely that I take longer.

Also, I try to binge or at least complete one entire game without too many gaps in between, because I want to concentrate and hopefully get absorbed in it to enjoy it more, and if I take a break for too long, I may forget or lose interest in the story (so this might result in finishing it faster, ideally). Of course, there are inevitably many times where I don't have the time to binge a whole story, which can result in losing motivation with finishing it if the break I take is too long, and as such, some games take very long to complete.

I read slowly and carefully because I want to dive into the story—if I don't understand something, I reread until it clicks. Ideally I'd binge a game in one go to stay immersed, but life gets in the way, so some games end up taking me forever to finish 😅

I've thought the exact same thing before. Even when someone says they finished a game in a week, I'm already amazed at how fast they must read.

When I play Japanese commercial otome games, it usually takes me about a month and a half to finish one — and that's without needing any translation tools. I'm honestly really slow. I kind of envy people who can read that quickly.

During the more busy periods of my life it took me 3 months to finish one game.. Whenever i'm on a break/holiday it usually takes a week to a month to finish one game.
