There are a few otome games only available as browser games on freem, novegame etc. And I was wondering how to rip them entirely to have a normal app version. 🤔 Does anyone know?

I never did something like that but I want to try something... Can you send the example link of the game, otome? (◍•ᴗ•◍)

Oh, this does sound interesting, and it would also preserve games if those browser-only ones were to get deleted. I myself have no idea how to do it, but I'll watch this thread and see if someone knows.

https://www.freem.ne.jp/win/game/33269 This one for instance! I tried inspecting the page but didn't find much, or maybe I didn't search well enough lol I'm not well-versed in that.
oof the only thing I found out is the game using renpy engine
Tried this guide but it didn't work because the game needed to be saved in wayback machine but that feature doesn't work for the game. Also trying another browser game from freem, still zero result :akazukin_dead:

To be honest that'w how I found this game, I searched jp games using renpy on vndb 😂 I figured it'd be easy to rip a browser renpy game but I guess not TT I'll continue searching or asking friends if they know how to do that! Thanks <3

Browser based games can also run code server side.

In web server-client architecture, the server sends .html to your web client (a web browser) which tells your client to download images, .js scripts, and .css files so your client to render stuff locally.

However, the server can also do its own processing using php, js, python, and cgi whenever it gets a request and when you click on something before sending back a response. If the server ever does any processing, there is no way to "rip" that through normal means. That is server logic not meant to be accessible to the client, but it could be logic that is critical to run the VN.

If the entire VN is not rendered client side, if the server is involved in the rendering, then the only way to rip that would be to re-create the logic manually client side or otherwise port the downloaded assets to a different game engine.

Reading this thread I suddenly remember this game: A Very Splendid Otome Game (that's the title, really) https://vndb.org/v13165

I played it years ago before the hosting site died, but webarchive successfully preserved it. It's a very simple game anyway. Basic html pages and flash (swf) games are much easier to save compared to other game engines I think.

There are so many browser games on itchio I also wish to save but haven't found a way to do it :(

For kinda new games with active developers, such as 転生うさぎは恋をする above, you've got better chances just asking them for a downloadable version. If they decline, oh well it might sting, but if they agree, then you've got yourself an archive that's much better than digging through the web files or building it from the ground up with web resources.
