I usually continue from where I stopped instead of restarting. Even if I forget some details after a long break, I still like picking the story back up and slowly remembering everything as I play again.
 
I'll continue as is.
I've forgotten some parts, but I don't mind.
 
I'm also in the shelving started games dilemma. (⁠ ⁠´⁠◡⁠‿⁠ゝ⁠◡⁠`⁠)

If it's a game with a really engaging common route, I can usually remember 70% of the details, so it depends on the game.

But! If it was a really winded, drawn out beginning that maybe wasn't so enrapturing, I might replay it...but..love interests routes do an okay job at re-summarizing the prologue so I don't feel I've lost much if I choose not to replay.

I will say if I completed a route, unless I LOVED it, I'll probably never replay before I slough through the rest of the routes or shelve it once more.

So I'm kinda in the start over if you want or just jump into your love interest route, the details aren't going to make or break you loving your route as they'd probably go over it once or twice...or over and over again....ᕦ⁠(⁠ò⁠_⁠ó⁠ˇ⁠)⁠ᕤ
 
If I were in that situation, I'd pick up where I left off if I'd stopped because I got bored.
If I'd stopped because I was busy, I think I'd start over from the beginning.
 
I'd continue, not restart.
Restarting from scratch would mean redoing everything I've already played — common route, choices, maybe even skipping through text I still remember.
That just kills my motivation all over again 😅
 
If it very long break and I forgot the story already, I will start over. But if I still remember, I will continue by reading some part before I left.

If you forgot mostly everything about the game, then I would suggest restarting it. For me it really depends on how long the storylines are, I tend to forget the plot on these games if they take like months to finish. But if its something decently small? I usually retain my memories from that.
 
It depends on why I didn't finish this game at the time: either I don't have any time bc busy and still have the desire to finish it then I'd continue from where I left off or if the story is a bit heavy, full of mystery, and I've completely forgotten the main plot, probably gonna start the game over.
 
If it's a game I love, I'd probably replay it from the start. Otherwise, I'd just pick up where I left off. Even with games I like, I'd probably continue if I still remembered the story clearly.
 
It depends but I usually continue if I still remember something about the main plot or have done some route, and I will start from the beginning if I wasn't far in the game, still in the common route. It will also depends on how much I like the game tho 🤔
 
Starting from scratch since I've forgotten the story after being away for a while. I need to refresh my memory! 😖😖
 
Personally, I restart the game to remember the story and characters, but if I remember, I just continue hehe 🎀
 
It depends on the situation. For me, I often just forget completely about a game if I haven't played for a while so I'd just replay it again..
 
I usually continue from where I left off, but there are special cases where it's been such a long time that I don't remember anything, so I decide to start again (this happened to me with a VN that I started in 2017 and never finished… now I'm trying to get back into it from scratch lol. Tbh, it's not my favourite VN, but I don't like leaving things unfinished)

But it depends on the situation — sometimes I restart the whole game, skip the parts I already remember, and then just keep playing for hours :)
 
If it's a game with multiple routes, I would continue. Maybe do another route without skipping after finishing the one you're on just to refresh your memory.
 
If I remember the general gist of the story, then continue. If not, then restart.
