Regarding Love and Deepspace

Since my phone can't run the game, the most I can do is keep up with the news on the official page. Yesterday I saw a post on the Love and Deepspace official Instagram page with very suggestive stick figures and I thought it was funny. Now, moments ago, I saw another one of those stick figures and now I'm wondering if the game will now be 18+For those who play the game, what's your opinion? Do you think the developers will turn the game in 18+ and would still enjoy? Would you still intend to continue playing? I personally would find it random to suddenly add 18+ content to the game. (Initially I wanted to comment on fra4pp3cinn's thread about 18+ games, but I think trying to pin the image to the comment caused everything to freeze, and for some reason I can't comment there anymore ʕ⁠´⁠•⁠ ⁠ᴥ⁠•̥⁠`⁠ʔ so i apologize in advance if this thread seems incoherent or weird xD)

I believe the game has actually always been rated 17 or +18 in China, and there's been some suggestive events before (I played the game for a while, but I got fed up with the gacha lmao). The rating was recently raised to 16 in Google Play I think? So it's not too surprising!

It's not random at all. The game is 18+ in China from the beginning.

The thing is, for the global version, Google play ratings vary by country because each region adhere to different rating boards/regulations.

If anything, the game has gacha mechanics that can sink one's entire savings in one go. I actually find that more worrisome. But ehh, people think it's normal for everyone to be able to download games with addictive in-app purchases easily...so....

If by 18+ you mean by having it labeled as Erotic, then no I don't think so. I feel like Love and Deepspace will try to skirt along the lines as much as they can until they get caught. It would cause a lot of people to stop playing the game since they would have to take their app down on the app stores, etc. And there's the argument of having to download the game on their website if it does go to that point, but I don't think a lot of users would do that + it would make a group of people turn away from it.

The official age rating for Love and Deepspace is set at 18+, but our standard for "18+ games" still doesn't allow for explicit or restricted content—if that were to happen, it would be banned 100%. Therefore, the content in Love and Deepspace is, at most, just suggestive "edge-walking" (teasing/fanservice). The developer isn't some small indie studio either; they own the massive Nikki (暖暖) IP. The possibility of them adding the kind of explicit 18+ content people are imagining is basically zero. (Of course, it's not impossible for them to release that kind of content in the global version, but doing so would likely stir up a massive storm of controversy.)

LaDS might not have a Steam version, but you could try emulating it on your PC; I just forgot the app's name. Oh, and there's a game I saw recently that has the same vibe as LaDS, and I saw on a page I follow that it's going to have a PC version. It's this game here:

Ooh yeah I saw this game being announced as well, honestly I am worried about the game since its by the same people that made Dragon Raja, the plot for that game was complete nonsense. Nothing made sense at all, literally lol.

I was also surprised that this game could have such suggestive scenes, because I thought Chinese games weren't allowed to go that far. I wonder how it even passed censorship, haha. A while ago, there was an online gender dispute because a male-targeted anime game got taken down for being too revealing. So, they felt it was unfair that Love and Deepspace is still doing just fine. I think the game will probably just stop at this level of suggestive content. Taking it any further is absolutely out of the question. I don't really care whether this game becomes 18+ or not, so I'll probably keep playing. I'm just here for the handsome faces of the love interests, haha (though it makes me so sad when I can't pull the cards I want).

They have and the recent banner now is also sex scenes. Secret Times is also just nsfw ASMR lol. As long as they're poetic enough with their writing where people can understand what's going on, and not fully show penetration they can skirt around the topic to avoid that erotic rating.

A bit off topic since it's not otome-related, but I remember Arknights having an issue with depicting something Japanese, but when people defended "It's not Japanese, it's just Arknights", the authorities were like "aight carry on"

China's censorship is very strict. Content like this is already the limit, If it were any more explicit, the producers would definitely be taken to the police station and the game would be ordered to make changes.(A year ago, some authors were already taken to the police station for writing erotic novels ) In fact, even at this current level, if someone reported it, the game would absolutely be required to revise it. A few years ago, there was another Chinese otome game that got reported by someone. It wasn't even that explicit, but the game was still ordered to make changes In the end, they even changed the name of the champagne to something else as well.

Draft stage: In 2019, the 'Draft Game Age Rating Guidelines' divided games into four levels: 6+, 12+, 16+, and 18+. (Source: official media)

Official adjustment: When the official standard was released in 2020, the 18+ level was removed and adjusted to a three-level system.

Current market situation: Some imported games or developers may self-label as 18+ as a warning, but this is not an official standard. The actual content must comply with domestic censorship requirements. Adult content involving violence, pornography, etc, is typically modified or removed.

There are gossips and rumors of people trying to report LADS to the government for their new banner.

This time I think LADS is already flying too close to the sun. The new cards are borderline sex, I wouldn't call it "suggestive" anymore because it went waaay past that line. The breathing, the BOUNCING animations... like omg we know what they mean.

Afaik LADS don't have good relationship with other fandoms (from the otome community and the male gamers) thus I'm waiting to see if there will be any consequences to this.
People who got the cards should record them just in case tbh.

It's a tad disappointing. There are so many ways they could have designed the LIs. Aside from Theron - the tan guy - who looks a bit different from the usual "white as a sheet" skin color, the other two are very generic. It's that Final Fantasy artstyle mixed with the donghua pretty, long face...
Fandoms of Nikki and Life Makeover already have beef with each other. With this new otome, Papergames and Archosaur will be permanently at war lol. Comparison with LADS is inevitable because they are the only two 3D otome gacha right now.

I'm curious what the new game will do to steal the market from LADS. It'll be interesting.

So the game has always been an 18+ for me. Many banners are very suggestive and I don't think only explicit visuals need to be flagged as 18+. I'm pretty positive that they will never show full nudity or narrate actual sex scenes and the current banner imo is the most explicit they'll ever get. There are some ppl who are dropping the game because of this new banner. I think everyone is entitled to liking and disliking what they want. I personally like it. The company has a nice way of the pushing and pulling people with the fluff, spice, repeat thing
