Princess Body 2 Malfunctioning on Windows 10 In 2026 Despite Working Earlier

So, I acquired Princess Body 2 back in Nov 2025, it's file folder was called "v7736_r15517-JP"

It' Initially Worked & I played through to the ending. Around June this Year, I tried Plying it and I get the Following Error.

The title Screen Seems Normal, displaying the Menu Options & Playing the Title Screen Music. Clicking On New Game

There are 2 White Screens with Text, followed by a dark screen with the Company Logo, the game is supposed to formally start after that, but instead, Nothing, just Dark Screen. The side menu can be accessed to return to title screen, but the game won't play.

Other Issue, the Lone save File I had, when I entered the Game through that, when it progressed to the following Scene, after a decision Branch, the Game Hard Freezes on Each and the Menu Doesn't Work. {When I tried moving the Game Folder to Desktop to see if another path might fix it, I lost My only save}

Was there a Windows 10 update between 11/2025 & 6/2026 that might break older games?

Can someone see what is the best way to open the game so it finally works again? (I've tried running in compatibility mode but nothing)

For me the game works on an up-to-date Win10 VM. It was hard to get the game to not run which is rare. But I was not able to reproduce the black screen. Either worked normally or it didn't even start and displayed an error.

Maybe something like AV software deleting a file since you last played it in 2025? Or anti virus interferes now, but did not back then?

My only idea would be to extract the game fresh and see if that works.
That could at least tell you if it is a problem with the files themselves or if something else has changed since then.
Likewise, testing your folder from 2025 on a different machine would tell your the same.

Hmm, I wish I had another computer to test it on. Can't afford another, would never put an H-Game on a friend's rig. I've downloaded it again & had same problem, and anti-virus didn't trigger like it did for some other games. I've never done a VM, could a VM Win 10 be set up on a Win 10? For that matter, if your rig is Windows 11, did the game have any issues running for you on Win 11 software? (if I set up a VM, could i delete it if it doesn't work out? I only have about 14 GB left on my ssd)

I'm apprecitaive of your help, but the fact this issue seems not to happen for anyone else, only me & I'm too mentally crippled to understand how to troubleshoot my computer, it's incredibly frustrating.

Would telling Defender to exclude the game folder if it hasn't already deleted a part of the game affect malfunctions?

Also, where did you open the game from? was it in a desktop folder? Or in C: or C:\Games?

Yes, no problem.

But 14GB free storage is not going to be enough since Windows alone needs more than that. Also you need a bit of free RAM and CPU cores to dedicate to the VM. You probably want at least 4GB RAM and 2-4 cores to give to the VM, while leaving enough for your host to run.

I only tested it on windows 10, but I would assume the game works under windows 11 as well.

Possible, but if you see no notification that defender detected something I think it is unlikely that it interferes. You could try starting the VN with defender disabled, but I am not sure if that does much here.

I ran it from a "New Folder" on the desktop. I also moved it around, nested inside other folders, etc. It didn't matter where the folder was, nothing caused any kind of problems playing the VN.

I could be wrong here, so take this with a grain of salt, but as far as I could see the game is fully self-contained. Everthing it needs is inside the main game folder. It doesn't store anything outside of it. Which makes it even stranger that it worked for you once but doesn't anymore.

Another thing since you mentioned using windows 10: You do have extended update-support of some kind, so you still get security updates, right?

using my Task Manager, I can see Microsoft Edge is Running up to 1.5 GB usage, could that be causing the game issues? A bunch of my other games i have still seem to run fine, but maybe Princess Body 1 & 2 Run differently than them.

In double checking to see if my anti virus may have caused trouble, comparing the zippped rar to the game folder shows zero missing files

do you have "All-in-One Runtimes" on your computer? I heard of that looking up troubleshooters & i'm sure I don't have it on my computer yet.

looking at all my files i downloaded, I should have far more than just 15gb left, so i have no idea where all the bloat came from. Caches & cookies shouldn't be over 100-200 gb. Sorry i'm such trouble, my schools in the 90's never really taught anything useful for computers & only games that worked were available whether Apple II of Mac

As for extended support, I have No idea what Microsoft is doing for that, except pestering me every few months to update to Windows 11. I think i'm "raw dogging" my security AFAIK, whcih makes me nxious whenever i get pop-ups on the download sites linked here (katfile for example)

Unless your are running out of RAM, I don't think so. Those older VNs are very light on ressources.

Runtimes would be something to look into if the game never ran at all for you. But since it worked before and now doesn't I would say this is unlikely to be the cause. Or did you uninstall any since then?
I don't think I installed any in the past, but I could be forgetting of course.

Have a look at Wiztree. It gives you a nice visual overview what eats up a lot of space. But be careful about what you delete.

No worries, I like figuring this stuff out. I'm not an expert or anything, but I try to help where I can.
Though I agree, schools didn't help much in that regard.

I'd strongly advise doing something about that. Microsoft provides security updates for Windows 10 until October 2027 free of charge under certain terms (the main one is syncing your settings with a microsoft account). Have a read here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/extended-security-updates
