Otome Recommendation megathread

I've just finished an otome and am left staring blankly at my downloads, unsure where to go next. Figured there's no harm asking here. Here's my KoiLog so it's clear what I've played and what I have access to at this moment.

Looking for: Your reddest of red flags. Possessive, yandere, villains, secret agendas, unhealthy power dynamics, overconfident womanizers, whatever. I'll 100% a whole game to get to one really good ML. Creative, mature, and/or dark settings are not necessary but are a plus (examples: Virche for creative, Collar x Malice for dark, any MC who has her own damn home and career for mature). Spice also not necessary but a plus.

MLs I enjoyed: Tomomori (Birushana), Henri (Piofiore), Kazama/Sannan (Hakuoki), Shiraishi (CxM), Toma (Amnesia), Yori (Itehari), Himeutsugi/Karakurenai (Hana Awase)

Things I don't like: Meta-plots that aim to tie everything together by altering the whole premise of the story (Taisho x Alice, Hana Awase). I don't mind a complicated plot, plot twists, heavy politics, whatever, but the premise-altering meta-twist is something I'm temporarily exhausted of.

Of the games on your to-play list, I'd recommend 9 R.I.P. There are multiple red flag characters but the worst (best? reddest?) is probably Minami. He's very possessive and villainous and definitely overconfident. The game as a whole doesn't have a twist like Taisho x Alice. It has a little spice but nothing R18. MC is a high schooler would be the only downside.

Not on your list, but if you are ok with CRPGs that are not technically otome games, you might enjoy Marazhai from Rogue Trader. If you enjoy evil love interests he is 100% pure evil, no grey area, all red flags, very unhealthy power dynamics. His idea of foreplay includes going out to murder peasants together. MC is an adult with her own space ship.

It's so funny to get this recommendation; I had never heard of this game, but just last week or so, I was looking into where one would get started on the 40k universe. I'll look into it along with giving 9 R.I.P. a look :) thank you

I love that coincidence!
It was my first 40k game and I had no trouble understanding things because it has an in game dictionary for 40k lore words and terminology so it should be a good entry point for you too. I hope you enjoy 9R.I.P. and/or Rogue Trader! :)

Hi! I wanted to see if anyone here had any science fiction Otome Games recommendations? I'm looking specifically for more unknown ones! They can be older, jp only or anything of the sort! Even a game that just has a more technology inspired art and designs would be great, even if it isn't related to the plot. Or a Otome Game with a more Cyberpunk aesthetic!

I don't have specific things I'm looking for outside from genre or aesthetic, and I'm ok with reading all types of stories because the most important thing to me is the experience, so there are no restrictions!

Cyberpunk aesthetic: def Neon Clash!! It has English translation/localization too. I really loved it. It is plot heavy. But I feel like it is a bit more fantasy based than sci-fi based tho.

Sci-fi: I highly recommend Natsuzora no Monologue!! It is slice of life, comedy, plus science. It's one of my favorite games. JP only.

Other ones are Clock Zero: school related, time travel, serious sci-fi. Armen Noir: Dark, techonolgy based sci-fi I would say. Both JP only.

I haven't finished playing this one yet, but Nor9 has a sci-fi vibe. There's also Virche Evermore if you haven't played it yet, and if you like gacha games, there's Lovebrush Chronicles too! For the Cyberpunk aesthetic, I second the comment above that recommended Neon Clash.

Sanzen Sekai Yuugi (JP only) - Multi universe sci fi. Protagonist is a bounty hunter with a special sci fi katana. I recommend it for the sci fi aspect, but I thought the protagonist was so cool the love interests didn't deserve her, lol.
Yuukyuu no Tierblade (JP only) - I haven't played it but it's supposed to have robot battles. If you're into those it's a rarity in otome games.

I would totally recommend Butterfly's Poison; Blood Chains. The whole premise of the game is taboo LIs & dark, bittersweet endings. It isn't super political and can get rather psychological at times in the darker routes as you progress through the game if that's your cup of tea. The Switch & PC version have removed darkest, spiciest parts of the bad endings of the OG R18+ game but it can still get pretty edgy!!!

This one was already in the played list of my linked KoiLog, but thanks anyway

Lately I played Code: Realize and Virche Evermore, which are both really plot-heavy games. I personally love that kind of thing, so I'm looking for something that keeps the same level of storytelling quality as those two, something really dense with lots of twists and turns!!

Games I've already played: Taisho x Alice, Café Enchanté, Collar x Malice and Illusion of Itehari

I've recently finished Virche, both the original AND the FD, and I really like feminine-looking LIs. I'd love some recommendations that have something similar OR at least LIs with long, flowing hair LOL.

If you haven't played Even if TEMPEST yet, that would be my top recommendation! It is plot-heavy and pretty intense. The story feels very gripping from start to finish.
I would also recommend Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly.

Maybe SWEET CLOWN ~午前三時のオカシな道化師~?

MC is invited to a 3AM tea party in a castle in the middle of the woods. Lots of mystery/creepy plot stuff.

Which languages are you comfortable playing in?
Others have recommended some great stuff, but I would also recommend code:realize and piofioee in English.

Norn9 is the first one that comes to my mind , code realize little bit , Paradigm paradox but the romance was a bit lacking in some routes and ofcourse Sakuya by tetrascope

This is a bit niche and its not necessarily a Japanese otome, but cardinal cross very much comes to mind! I have 21 hours on steam from this game apparently, it was a good game sci fi plot wise
