Otome or BL which is better

BL, hands down. I love dark/mature themes and dislike self-inserts, so such VNs are usually perfect for me. Not that otome content is inferior or never meets the above criteria -- just to each their own. Also, I think I like male protagonists more. Hard to explain why.

I don't think one is better than the other. In the end, it's just personal preference. In my case, I prefer otome. For me, it feels like a truly memorable encounter with a story and its characters, and I usually feel close to the MC, so yeah
 
I like both, but commercial all-ages otome has been a hit or miss for me lately. Thankfully I still find BL very fun and some of the BL creators pander to my exact needs (Ooe, Lesson)
 
I think both have its own charms. But I love women, so I love playing from their perspective more than when I play games with male protagonist pov <3

I love both a lot! It really depends on my mood which game I play at the time. Right now I'm playing a BL game, but I also plan to start UN:LOGICAL soon as well.
Don't think either is better objectively, or even subjectively for me (～￣▽￣)～
 
i dont really have a preference between otome and bl but honestly until now i havent played any bl game that i would consider actually good lmao
 
I like both otome games and BL games.
Both feature attractive male characters, don't they?
Whether I enjoy it or not depends on the heroine's charm and the story.
I have a lot of favorite BL works.
 
I play both but they give me a different vibe. Obviously this is a generalization and there's always good/bad games that don't apply to this list. And things like art style are just preference.

(just my opinion)
Otome pros:
- Prettier/more delicate art styles, more shoujo influences
- Sometimes cuter/softer LIs
- More games to choose from
- Sometimes higher production value? They're more likely to have gameplay elements

Otome cons:
- Self-insert MCs
- Often kind of boring/formulaic plot
- Often stereotypical male/female dynamic (where the MC practices cooking for their LI etc. - I just think it's boring)

BL pros:
- More fleshed out MCs
- Voiced MCs
- Darker, heavier themes on average, not scared to be edgy
- Boys kissing <3

BL cons:
- Too many H-scenes
- Noncon/rape as a plot device
- The most digusting messed up bad endings for shock value or something?
- LIs are uglier on average (for me personally, I like shoujo-style male characters and BL LIs are more often the seme, masculine type)

So I play both but they both kind of annoy me sometimes. But sometimes you get the perfect game that hits all the pros from both lists..
 
Both have their pros. I like both, and I play both lol.

Otome games have more themes since the community is stronger. In the past few years they've been producing more BL games, but in terms of quantity, otome still wins.
Even though there aren't that many BL games, there are still some classic ones with great quality and reputation. :)
And every year i will follow their news if there is any updates of new games release lol
 
I've never tried BL before, so I'd have to say otome. I do self-insert a little, and I just don't seem to be able to self-insert as male MCs
 
i can't say that one or the other is better, it's a matter of taste. i personally would choose bl, because i'm more into it.
 
I'm a dual-wielder and adore both for different reasons, though I think in terms of overall writing, BL stories are more compelling to me!
