Everytime i rewatch NANA, i really can feel a difference in understanding the characters compared to the first time.
Back then, I couldn't really understand the deeper layers of NANA or what the characters were feeling.
I just thought that it was about love story, relationships and drama, but then... after getting older, i get the loneliness, dependence vs independence, timing in life etc.

At first i didnt understand "Why didn't they just choose each other?"
But then, you just thought "Ah… they couldn't."

NANA is about early adulthood, chasing dreams in the city, unstable love, friendships and that phase was just.. fragile.
Now that I understand, it makes me realize I've grown—and that those innocent, carefree days won't ever come back lol

I just hope that one day i can see the ending of these two girls :(
or maybe not... just let them remain in their 20s... when they first met in that small apartment...

and yeah, just wondering if there is still some NANA fans here ><

I got youuuu, there were some people that dislikes Hachi, but i like her, she feels real. And i remember in one of the author's interviews, she said that she created Hachi as an ordinary girl, maybe that's why, i can feel her lol

forever a nana fan too, it means so much to me...!! i'll always love hachi and nana and hope for their happy ending. i also loved the music sm (introduced me to anna tsuchiya and olivia lufkin <3), not to mention ai yazawa's beautiful art style and fashion... and her writing too omg. in my opinion nana offers a very sincere and accurate portrait of people in their twenties who are lost, lonely and messing up badly bc they just don't know any better. i actually like the fact nobody has their shit together, i like my characters flawed lol

i read the manga! and yes, unfortunately since it's not finished you won't get any closure regarding the story :( i think it's up to you..

Not really, the anime ended openly, but it revealed that NANA had mysteriously gone missing. Maybe something happened in the manga regarding her relationship with Ren (somehow i got spoiled LOL but im not sure)

It was one of the first anime I watched as a teenager, thanks to my sister, who loves everything Japanese and Japan itself. I need to rewatch it; it's been a while since I last watched NANA.

I watched it when I was young enough to think it was very boring (；一_一) Then again, I also thought Death Note was too confusing and fell asleep three times watching Monster, so it may have been the underdeveloped frontal lobe talking.

Thing is, I never went back to Nana after that. Is it actually *that* good even without an ending? Because I read Skip Beat! when I got older and loved it, and that thing is still ongoing after 40 business years. So now I genuinely can't tell if Nana is one of those series people romanticize out of nostalgia or if it really is worth a watch even now. ◔_◔

Like, I loved Kaichō wa Maid-sama! at that age, would I watch it now? Nope. If I did would I like it? Probably nah. I wouldn't say it's bad but that's probably nostalgia talking. （；⌣̀_⌣́ )

Hmm... I like NANA because I can really relate to the female leads. When I first watched it, I didn't really understand it and just thought it was another "romance" anime. But as you get older and gain more life experience, revisiting a story like this at a certain stage of your life makes you understand emotions and situations you completely missed before.

I can't really say whether NANA is objectively "that good" or not, because everyone's idea of what makes a story good is different. Like you mentioned with Death Note — I actually didn't like it when I was younger either, hahaha. I thought it was too scary. But when I got older and reached the point where it didn't scare me anymore, I rewatched it and realized it was actually really good.

And there are a lot of other examples too. As for more straightforward shoujo anime, I really love Toradora!. I've watched it many times, and unlike some shows that only feel special because of childhood nostalgia, I still genuinely love it as an adult because I think the story itself is really well written. I also really like Lovely★Complex.
