MMD discussion and sharing

I've been here for a fair bit, but I've never understood why exactly we hide links behind base64 and the thing where you have to like it to see them? Does it prevent the links from getting taken down by the creators or something?

Not against it, I'm sure it serves some purpose, and if it doesn't I don't really care, just super curious why we do it.

I'm not entirely sure but I'd guess that it makes it harder for authors & trolls to find out that content is being shared here, I.e. it makes takedowns less likely but I could be wrong about that, shrug.

it hides it from search results and webcrawlers for artists to simply google the name, links, etc to know to dmca it or kill it on some sort of way. otherwise if they can't then they try other measures for legit ppl who pay to go through hoops to download and share to discourage leaks

all posts and threads are crawled and searchable on google. If we can find it, then so do the actual creators.
By react hiding the links and base64 encoding the author, only [Hidden content] will be visible for visitors and the names won't be crawled on google.
This doesn't mean artists can't just register, reveal the code, decode the link and then reporting it.. but it makes the process much harder.
For things that are already crawled, we can't do anything about it. I guess many newcomers found the site via googling an artist and saw that we got activity here.
