It's 2020 why are we still using services like mexshare and rapidgator for downloading?

So I wanted to bring this up. When downloading games via direct download rather than torrent, why are uploaders still using services like rapidgator, mexashare, upload.to? These services are old and out of date. Most of the time links are temporary and if you want the link reactivated the file needs to be reuploaded. Speeds are capped so very slow. Often times I'll have download failures due to speeds. Also rapidgator never lets me download anything from them. They always ask for a premium membership to pay by month to use. Kinda useless.

I understand the need for temporary links but there are better services now related to cloud services where you can upload the file ONCE and you can have the link active for a period of time and deactivate or reactive the link for sharing on the fly. I know mega is an iffy service and risks a lot but why not cloud storage like onedrive, dropbox or google drive. (Google drive is harder since i've heard files can get flagged). There are also cloud services like sync.com, pcloud and tresorit, hightail.

So let's ask the question again, why are we still using services like rapidgator and mexashare?

I don't use direct download often, but I assume the hosting sites are a matter of uploader preference for a variety of reasons. Be that using what's most convenient for the uploader, favoring the community by picking a host that keeps files for a long time, or trying to make money with PPD (pay per download) and affiliates/referrals programs. To be honest whatever the reason I'm just happy when an old game whose torrent died long ago is available at all, even at slow download speeds.

Note that this is all conjecture, you'd have to ask actual uploaders to get a good answer.

这有什么难理解的。你说的那些网盘,都是变态的盈利网盘。上传者也会获得那些网盘给的钱的。 简单来说就是割韭菜。

你要他们换网盘无益于断上传者的财路。 剩下的问题用你脑子想。

Affiliate links and pay per download.

On Mexashare, for example, an uploader can get up to $50 for every 1000 downloads from Tier 1 countries (think: English-speaking, wealthy countries).
Also, they get a share of whatever Premium memberships people end up buying via their download links.
For example, you get a message that says you have reached the download limit and, in frustration, purchase a premium membership. The person who initially sent you over there gets a cut of the money you pay.

There were a number of reasons I didn't post my most recent translation up on Mexa/Rapidgator, but knowledge of the above was certainly one of the reasons.

Another reason beyond greed and getting paid is that there are countries that punish seeded content via torrent overly harsh. So direct downloads are a grey zone the content provider cannot sue the downloader (even using premium accounts) while uploading via torrent is a crime, easy to dedect and privat law firms do not hesitate to squeez money out of the ordinary torrent uploader.

I guess the money paid to rapidgator some may be used to pay their DCMA ticket,ww
back to the topic, the mega and onedrive and google drive need many of your personal infomation and they cooperated efficently,so they maybe found who the uploader is when meeting DCMA,and the uploader in jail.
even if you're in some area where DCMA can't reach(like china mainland),those files are usually forbidden by the cloud service provider(yes,in china you may used be able to use them, but not NOW).
And for the annoymous and file storage time, maybe the rapidgator is only choice.(If you found some cloud drive that can be register with fake mail address and fake ip,no need about google/FB/credit card, and file storage forever, please contact me at once)

P.s:some tips for those who got frustrated for shaing things from china:
1.those things actually is banned in china,so many files are compressed with password to protect them from surveillience. Most of the password can be found in the readme file or file name or the file comment.so check them carefully.I do have a dictionary that store the mostly used passwords in china.
2.many file are stored on a cloud drive provider called baidudrive(or 百度云盘).unluckily it rejects download outside china.so maybe you need to buy a VPN with china IP and you need to get an baidu account to download(don't register for it in official way,it will provide a very limited service if you not live in china.just buy it)
3.In China there are many seedbox companies, though they have different limits(sometimes download will be limited if you download certain file),but they DO have stored many file in their CDNs.I mean, many EBs.they download the files via P2P when the torrent aren't dead and store them in their server until someone using seedbox require those files.
4.there is no DCMA in china if you don't call the police and tell them you have downloaded something pirated.
