Installing apps on external storage for Android

It kinda sucks to only have 5GB of internal memory on your phone. Can't install too many apps/games that way. Does anyone here know if it is possible to install apps/games on the phone's external memory without rooting it? I'm using an LG Android phone, version 4.1.2, if that's any help.

Hi I found 2 similar guides how to move apps to sd card.

You have to work with terminal and need to install the adb package.
Both claim you don't need to be root. I did not try them myself, so I don't know, I always root my phone. It is also not stated what Android version is required.
Before doing the whole process you should backup your files. As it seems there is no easy way to move your apps to external card, like it was before (< Android 2.2)
