I want more female LIs

Or maybe a VN with yuri elements but from female gaze (do you get what i meant?)

I really really really love kiamei from HI3, and I usually self-insert myself as kiana to feel like..... as if im playing Raiden Mei's romance route:cry:

But i noticed, some otome(?) VN that has female LI usually just extra route (like, not as complete as the other male LI routes) or friendship route...

I want more Mei-senpai :( I want miyukichi as a love interest in a visual novel

Then maybe it'd be best for you to look into GL or indie amare games instead? A lot of people get annoyed when female LIs are introduced into otome because, well, otome is supposed to be male love interests x a female heroine. I know a lot of GL games are quite... eh. Not thought for a female audience. But I'm sure there are indie creators out there that could cater to what you want.

I'm personally not interested, but I think Killer Chat has female LIs? You'll probably find a lot of those in the indie scene of amare games. When it comes to JP games... all I can think is Pashet from Ozmafia (a friendship route, and like all the non-Oz routes, tragically short imo), and... I think that's it. There's Jaehee from Mystic Messenger, that can be easily read as a strong friendship between women or more, by the end and DLCs. Like I said, you'll probably have more luck looking into indie VNs.

you're right, a lot of jp GL game is... well... not really for female audience 😭

i have saved a steam game that matched my preference actually, but they're not voiced...

i can only hope someday there is a voiced jp game like that 😔🤚

I've had similar thoughts before.
Although Miyuki Sawashiro isn't part of the cast, there is an otome game called Goes! (PS Vita) where all of the love interests are voiced by female voice actresses.
The characters themselves are male, but every route is fully voiced by women. It's a title I personally enjoyed quite a lot. If you're interested in Japanese female voice actresses, it might be worth looking into.

Goes! (PS Vita)

i mean, thats the entire point, isnt it? the official definition of otome genre is female mc who pursues male lis. yuri routes in otome are indeed just extra, and its neither good or bad -- just a bit of fanservice. but i really wish we had more yuri vns too.. and not just indie ones, but actual high budget high production ones!! after all, why coming into a non-yuri genre and wish for a proper yuri? its always better to just do your best to support the already existing yuri^^ thankfully, its not 2000s anymore, so yuributa like us dont have to rely on "subtext" or settle for scraps!!

I get you, I also want to play more Yuri games but it's hard to find 'written by female' yuri game... so if anyone know games like this pls tell me too. :)

I just wanted econd Gekka Ryouran Romanceeee<3 It's my favoriteeee rejet game too!! Im waiting for them to port it to switch because its graphics on psp is kinda hard to read orz...

but yeah otherwise a lot of female LI routes often end up being "friendship routes".

I completely understand how you feel. That's why I love berubara(私立ベルばら学園).

I feel you. I love almost every female "best friend" character in otome games because they're so cute, spunky, and have better chemistry with the MC than any of the LIs lol.

Apart from Gekka Ryouran, the other JP otome I can remember that let you be bi are: 1) Zettai Meikyuu Himitsu no Oyayubi-hime where there are two female LIs and they're definitely romantic. 2) Zettai Meikyuu Grimm has a route with the Thorn Princess where they leave the ending purposefully vague on whether it's romantic or not.

More common are "otokonoko" who span the spectrum from cross-dressing guys to gender-fluid to preferring female pronouns. Typically with female VAs. Hakarena Heart, Charade Maniacs, Despera Drops come to mind.

Seishun Hajimemashita have gender-locked routes: you can choose to be a guy or girl and romance the opposite gender. But you can't be a girl and romance the girls :(

Yuri VNs: I enjoyed the Flower series by Innocent Grey and Ever Maiden by Liar-soft (warning: dark). Ever Maiden is written by Umihara Nozomu who is a woman, but she has a background in galge writing.

This part! In Jack Jeanne, I loved the meetings with Ao so much, I really wasn't expecting it 😅🥹 I hope to see more of her in the next one.

I have that one in my wishlist on Steam, but I've never played a yuri game before so I haven't bought it yet. The art IS gorgeous, which is what drew me in initially. How is the writing and translation, if you don't mind me asking?

It's been a while I can't say for all routes since I only finished one route (Nyx) this is not bcs the game is bad but I didn't have time so I set my goal to finish at least one route per game lol, I think the translation is smooth at least, the writing is ok but nothing new if you play a lot of vn/otome games, overall vibe is bright with tragic backstory also there's yandere l.i so... if you don't like this kind of character maybe avoid it? and this is just my personal opinion, so I recommend to read other reviews too.

Thank you! I don't mind yandere, and I have a little bit of time today, I think I'll finally try the demo for it and see how it goes from there

ETA: I just finished the demo and loved it, omg the characters are soooo pretty!! 🙈 My backlog is huge rn, but I bought it anyway. 🥲

Honestly, I just wish that the few female lis that you get in otome games weren't always just platonic. If you're going to give a woman a full route in a game, I believe you should go the full way! Don't be a coward! Have those girls kiss!!!

I understand that by genre definition an otome game shouldn't have female LI's as it's GxB, and that GxG shouldn't dilute the genre as it's already so niche, but as a bisexual women I would love for more yuri games written by women which have gripping storylines like I tend to find in BxG and BxB. The few I've managed to play felt...how to say this...male-gazey? I was put off as it didn't feel like how a relationship would organically bloom with two women. I know GL games exist but I wish they had the same kinds of writing that otomes seem to have!

Flashbacks to playing Mystic Messenger and Jaehee's route :<

i totally get you!! unfortunately thats true.. i guess producing a whole visual novel is way harder than publish a manga? on the brighter side, theres a ton of good yuri manga written by women! i know this isnt the same experience as a full colourful voiced visual novel, but if you want to see women writing about relationships between girls, please try to read manga..! im an avid reader too, and it kinda feels like male yuri authors are actually a huge minority! theres also yurihime, a monthly yuri manga magazine, and a lot of its writers (like 70%?) are women! so, do give manga a try..!

and about vns, oshirabu and lip trip are both written by a woman, and both illustrated by women as well! in fact, lip trip is illustrated by chigusa minori, whos very famous for her yuri manga!

I think I read somewhere that the yuri genre was originally aimed at women? I suspect a big reason for yuri vns being so "male-gazey" is because eroges (which the majority of vns technically are) are predominantly written/produced by men.

Essentially if we want more yuri vns with otoge-like storytelling, we'll need to get more women writing/producing yuri visual novels.
