It would be very nice if this site would be reachable
also through HTTPS, not only just HTTP.

People who need to use a series anonymous proxies or
public WiFi to access the internet, may sometimes
fall to the victim of automatic forum account stealing
spam bots running on the proxy exit nodes, which
have a very easy job if the connection is plain HTTP,
so it is better if the connection is encrypted, as it
will reduce forum spam, and it will be less probable that
poor unlucky users will end up with automatically stolen
and then of course automatically banned accounts.

By the way, if you have trouble getting a HTTPS certificate,
you can get one at zero cost, from the
Electronic Frontier Foundation's Let's Encrypt project.
VNDB also uses that certificate.

We don't have trouble getting a certificate. We have trouble getting our ad provider to work with HTTPS - because at the end of day, server costs need to be paid (and no, there's no free servers for a forum our size available).

I see, that is a very valid reason.
I understand it.
Surviving in the real world and
earning money is indeed very hard.

I guess that ad providers pay by looking at
how many IP addresses have seen or
clicked on an advertisement, so even
setting up a transparent HTTPS proxy
to your subdomain for example something
like https://www.secure.anime-sharing.com,
would not solve the problem, because then
everything will look like as if it has came
from the same IP address.
