How to Play Otome Games on PC with Ryubing
Nintendo Switch emulation, step by step, for Windows & Linux

Hi everyone! This guide walks you through setting up Ryubing (the continued version of Ryujinx) so you can play Switch otome games on your PC. Follow the steps in order and you'll be playing in about 15 minutes.

📋 What you need
  • A PC running Windows 10/11 (64-bit) or Linux
  • 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to unpack .zip files: 7-zip.org
  • A Nintendo Switch you own: the keys, firmware and games all come from your own console
  • Optional: an Xbox or PlayStation controller (strongly recommended)

1️⃣ Download the emulator

Go to the official Ryubing releases page:
➜ Ryubing releases

Pick the newest version (at the time of writing that's 1.3.3) and download the file for your system:
  • Windows: ryujinx-1.3.3-win_x64.zip
  • Linux: ryujinx-1.3.3-x64.AppImage

2️⃣ Unpack the emulator

  1. Right-click your desktop and choose New ➜ Folder. Name it something like Ryubing.
  2. Move the emulator zip you downloaded into this new folder.
  3. Right-click the zip and choose 7-Zip ➜ Extract Here (or WinRAR ➜ Extract Here).
  4. Open the extracted folder and start Ryujinx.exe.

The AppImage doesn't need unpacking. Make it executable first:
Code:
chmod +x ryujinx-1.3.3-x64.AppImage
Then double-click it, or run it from a terminal.

3️⃣ Keys and firmware

Ryubing needs two things from a Switch before any game will start:
  • prod.keys: the decryption keys
  • Firmware: the Switch system software

Important: your keys must be the same version or newer than your firmware. If they don't match, games won't boot.

A) Dump them from your Switch
  • Keys: run Lockpick_RCM on your console. It saves prod.keys to /switch/ on your SD card.
  • Firmware: use TegraExplorer ➜ Dump Firmware. It saves a folder full of .nca files to your SD card.
Copy both onto your PC, into the Ryubing folder on your desktop.

B) Install them in Ryubing

Everything here is in the Actions menu at the top of the emulator:

Firmware:
  1. Click Actions ➜ Install Firmware.
  2. Choose Install a firmware from XCI or ZIP, or Install a firmware from a directory if you dumped a folder.
  3. Browse to Desktop ➜ Ryubing, select your firmware and click Open.
  4. Confirm and wait until it says installation is finished.

Keys:
  1. Click Actions ➜ Install Keys.
  2. Choose Install keys from KEYS or ZIP.
  3. Select your prod.keys file and click Open.
  4. Wait for the confirmation.

✅ The firmware version now shows in the bottom-right corner of Ryubing. If you can see it, everything worked.

4️⃣ Add your games

Make a games folder
  1. Open File Explorer and go to a drive with plenty of free space, for example C:\.
  2. Create a new folder and call it something like Switch games. Pick a place you'll easily find again.

Dump your games
Use nxdumptool on your Switch to dump your cartridges or eShop games as .xci or .nsp. Updates and DLC can be dumped the same way. Move the files into your Switch games folder.

Point Ryubing to the folder
  1. In Ryubing, go to Options ➜ Settings ➜ General.
  2. Under Game Directories, click Add and select your Switch games folder.
  3. Click Apply, then Save.

From now on, Ryubing scans this folder every time it starts. Any game you drop in there shows up in your library automatically. Double-click a game to play!

Right-click the game in your library:
  • Manage Title Updates ➜ Add ➜ select the update .nsp ➜ select it in the list ➜ Save
  • Manage DLC ➜ Add ➜ select the DLC .nsp ➜ Save

5️⃣ Controls

I recommend an Xbox or PlayStation controller, but keyboard works fine for visual novels too.

Go to Options ➜ Settings ➜ Input, select Player 1 and click Configure. Choose your controller or keyboard under Input Device and check or change the buttons.

6️⃣ Which Switch emulators still work?

  • ✔ Ryubing: active, used in this guide
  • ✔ Eden: active
  • ✘ Citron: discontinued
  • ✘ Yuzu: discontinued
  • ✘ Ryujinx (original): discontinued

  • Eden (official): v0.2.0-rc2
  • Eden (mirror): Pixeldrain
  • Eden Nightly (a fork that runs a bit better): Pixeldrain. This is my own mirror because the original repository was taken down.
Keys and firmware go in through Tools ➜ Install Decryption Keys and Tools ➜ Install Firmware, the same idea as step 3.

❓ Troubleshooting
  • "Missing keys" / "Key not found": prod.keys isn't installed, or it's older than your firmware. Redo step 3 with matching versions.
  • Game doesn't appear in the library: check that the folder is listed under Game Directories, then restart Ryubing.
  • Game crashes on boot: install the latest game update (see the spoiler in step 4) and make sure you're on the newest Ryubing.
  • Low FPS or stutter: the first run of a game builds its shader cache. It gets smoother after a few minutes.

That's everything. Happy playing! 💕

Very handy, thank you! Separate folders for the games, updates, and DLC are great to keep things tidy.

this is extremely useful! thank you~^^♡
is the process the same with other emulators (with additional downloads and such)? also, is ryujinx the emulator that is compatible with most games?
