How much did it cost you to live in Japan for six months?

Hi there.
I'm planning to attend a language school in Japan to study Japanese for about six months.I'm planning to attend a language school in Japan to study Japanese for about six months.
The school in Osaka; the course costs around 3.000€, and accommodation through a company will run about 3.500€. Then there are all the extras: daily meals, transport, utility bills...
For those of you who also spent six months there: roughly how much did you spend during that time?
Living there for six months on 12,000€ seems like it would be a tight squeeze, doesn't it?

I've been here in Hokkaido for almost 6 months now on a pretty tight budget. My rent is about 1100CAD per month with gas/electricity/water and thankfully with meals included(it's about 100CAD per month with the meal plan).
On top of that I also pay pension and IHC which is about 200CAD per month.

I'd say I would have spent around 8500CAD for the time I've been here. Extra things like cleaning supplies, laundry, and other necessities are things I'd also take into account but are thankfully pretty affordable to get at places like Daiso.

I'm personally pretty low maintenance so I don't go out much besides going to school. I only eat at restaurants if it's with a friend, otherwise I'm getting food on sale at the convenience store or AEON if my dorm doesn't have meals that day.

For any kind of extra activities I find that Japan has a lot of free activities and things to look at if you enjoy just walking around and such. Lots of festivals and local exhibitions where you can enjoy the atmosphere without spending any extra money.

Obviously I can't say my experience and bills will be exact to yours of course. But I'd say 12,000€ is plenty as long as you don't go to expensive restaurants and buy lots of things everyday lol
