How important is the visual style of otome to you?

I don't have much experience with otome, but I can say that most of them have a very appealing visual style. And there are some otome I wouldn't mind playing, but because of the visual style, which I don't really like, I can't bring myself to do it.

In my case, I don't care much about the visual style as long as the story is good and the characters are well-written.

i'm a very visual-oriented player, so visual style is really important to me. after all, it is the first thing i see and notice when i search for a new otome game. and if i won't like the style, then i won't bother myself to even read a synopsis or a description of that game and will skip it.

Kinda? I do like good visuals, but they're not a make or break for me. I value otome games with unique art directions I haven't seen in other games over a single generic 'good' artstyle. For an example, I think the art direction in kokuchou no psychedelica is better than the art direction in bustafellows simply due to the uniqueness of it. all my opinion though, both games are good. I was just more excited to play psychedelica than bustafellows when it came time.

i think im not exactly picky with the artstyles? as long as its not too "western"/non-anime, im fine with anything. in fact, i love seeing vns with amateurish art! i think its adorable when creators are trying their best despite their lack of artistic(?) skills^^
that said, even if the work has a beautiful art, i might still skip it if i dont like the artist (like aforementioned bustafellows). so yeah, i guess im extremely inconsistent in that regard.. haha;;

When I was younger I would play whatever I could get my hands on 😅 But I've gotten pickier as I have less time to game. I would still say the writing is most important but I'm more likely to pick something up if it's pretty. I'm really appreciative of the variety we have now!

If I don't like the style, I don't want to play. And if the characters' appearance doesn't make me choose anyone. I'm not interested when I don't like any of the characters, even if the story is good.

I do like good visuals but at the same time even if the visual is a bit unconventional, as long as the story is really good, I often find myself falling in love with the artsyle.

Honestly, not too important. Like it's more likely to make me want to get a game, but it's not a determining factor.

For example, I initially didn't care for the art of Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk, but I heard it had a great plot, and I love Hino Satoshi🫶So I decided to play it, and boyyyy was i satisfied!! I love it so much, if it gets ported to switch, you bet I will be getting Limited edition sets haha.

On the other hand, I was rly excited when Otome Doushi was first announced. Its art is drop dead gorgeous, plus I'm a sucker for Chinese themes. But later the VA cast was released and I realized it didn't have any of my favs. So decided to get Trouble Magia, that was released around the same time period instead. I don't regret my decision because I later heard the plot wasn't particularly great.

I'm of the opinion that all art styles are gorgeous! so it all just boils down to if the story is good as there can be media with the prettiest art but has shxt story so story>art for me

I don't have too much expectations for art, since I started playing indie otomes back when there weren't a lot of commercial otomes being released in English. A lot of them had just kinda below average art, and I still enjoyed them. Though I will say I prefer the anime-style art over more western looking art, because I often don't find the LIs attractive in that style for some reason, and if I don't feel attracted to the LI I don't have a lot of interest in playing it.

Artstyle is very important to me. If I don't vibe with it, I have a hard time enjoying it. It applies to any media I interact with. That being said, I'm willing to make a few exceptions if the story is that good.

Honestly i like gorgeous art styles, so i prefer games that put a lot of care into that, but art style doesn't equal a good storyline

I'll stick with the games i pick up, but what i end up loving is the story, if finishing it isn't memorable, then it's a shame

for me it's honestly pretty important, like it's the first thing that pulls me in. if i don't vibe with the art at all, it's kinda hard for me to even give it a chance. that being said, i do think a reaaallllly strong story can override that sometimes, so if its super hyped i'd try it still haha

It's important to me, though of course the plot and the uniqueness of the characters are important too.

It's very important to me. I started playing otome when I was younger, took a break, and now back again as an adult. I will say that if the love interests look to "childlike" I typically avoid, or if the characters are cannonically minors.

imo there are games that can get away with style over substance but i'm not sure if romance games are one of those because you'll be doing a lot of reading and it's crucial for you to connect with the characters. prose, story structure, making their characters feel 'alive'... all of those are important or it won't make for a very memorable experience.

that said, i agree with the comment that mentioned an interesting art direction and uniqueness being more valuable than a pretty yet generic style. i'll give both a try ofc but i take that creativeness into factor!

Doesn't matter much to me! I'll play even text-only games, or titles without character sprites. For me the game has to be well written, although I feel like nice, creative interfaces are more important than background/character art.

For playing otomes, the visual style isn't important to me at all. I'm also someone who mainly enjoys reading and sees art as a nice bonus.

However, when it comes to buying any merchandise—even if I love a character—if I don't vibe with the art, I won't purchase any. This used to make me feel like a fake fan, seeing people with full itabags of the same repeated default art badges, but I'd rather not force myself to like art simply because it's of a character I like.
