How do you feel about voice actor changes?

I don't think the new voice actor is bad at all. It's just hard to accept the change after spending so much time with the original voice. I've grown attached to that voice, so when it suddenly changes, it feels like I'm meeting a different character. It's not about who's better or worse—it just feels unfamiliar to someone who's been with the series for so long

Personally, I'm not a big fan of changing voice actors.

After all, the voice actor is part of the official team that helped shape the character and, in essence, has enriched our understanding of the character.

However, I'll abide by the official decision. If the official team decides to make a change, I'll accept it, but I won't force them to do anything.

It's really hard to get used to new VA, I already got attached to the previous one, so I would feel dissonance.
Usually I just don't have choice, so I suck it up and play while trying to accept the changes

Depends on the circumstance, really. Played some game series where I'm used to the English voice cast change often (Sonic) while some I'm not to used to it after listening to the same ones for years (Persona 3 and 4).

I'm sad whenever a VA get replaced due to circumstances out of their control. Though, I think VAs that have been exposed of doing terrible things should get definitely replaced.

i will forever be sad about satou takuya not voicing zayne , i dont think ill get used to the new VA. i really loved takuyas voice :cry: i really dont like when replacements happen

it's acceptable if it's health-related or they're being cancelled due to their own issue/s, but other than that, voice actor change is kind of a let down (and ngl a downgrade towards the character they're playing). at least they should find a va that will work well with that character (them sounding almost the same is a bonus).

Long-running series or characters I've grown attached to are a little different. Their voice is part of who they are to me, so it's always sad when the voice actor is replaced.

I do get used to the new voice eventually, but I feel it's actually easier when the new actor has a noticeably different voice. If the voices are too similar, I keep noticing the differences for much longer.

I usually can't accept a voice actor being replaced, because it feels like the character's soul has been swapped out. But if the voice actor's personal life causes major issues, I do support replacing them — because I can't separate the character from the voice actor in my mind."

That said, I understand that the new voice actor is under tremendous pressure as well. They're probably torn between trying to stay faithful to their predecessor's performance or bringing their own interpretation to the role. On top of that, they have to deal with the pressure of whether fans will accept them as the successor.

As long as the new voice actor genuinely cares about the character, I'd like to welcome them with an open mind. And if they're stepping into the role because the previous actor had to leave due to a scandal, I'd want to support them even more.

More than anything, I just hope people stop causing the kinds of scandals that lead to situations like this in the first place.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel.

If it's a veteran VA replacing another veteran, I think fans do tend to be somewhaaaat less critical...? But if it's, say, a VA who has been active for maybe five years taking over the role of one who has almost twenty years of voice-acting experience, I imagine it's doubly stressful for the successor, having such big shoes to fill. All the more so if the character is a massively popular one. I also totally agree with what you said about the dilemma the replacement VAs might face of not knowing whether or not to bring their own flair to the role.

Like you, though, I also typically do not find it too difficult to accept VA changes as long as the successor 1) also has a voice that suits the character, 2) has competent voice-acting, and 3) seems to have a good understanding of the character's personality and idiosyncrasies. Sure, it might sometimes take a while to get used to the new VA, but in most cases that's just a matter of time.

I feel like getting used to a new voice actor is very difficult.... but I haven't encountered that much in otome, except that I heard Luckydog1+bad egg got new voice actors—it was hard for my friends to get used to it, but the seiyuu tried very hard and it turned out well

It can take time to adjust but ultimately I'm okay if it's just the voice being replaced. Visual novel producers are well aware that the voice talents are a big draw for their audience and they most likely do not make the decision to change them lightly. My issue is when the writing gets affected by the new voice. I don't think it's a common practice but I've encounter 2 works where a character's personality got rewritten because the new voice didn't fully replicate the vibe of the original so the staff ended up working around that.

Having the voice actors changed is pretty sad for me, especially when it's a game from my childhood. Even so, I'll still play it because I want to see my LIs again.

I am quite dispersed, so I may not even notice it, especially if some time has passed lol. But if I do notice it, it would take a while to get used to.

It depends on the work. Most of the time I feel sad and disappointed about it since for me a large part of the character is also the voice. For example, the voice actor changed for one of the otome game reboots I was looking forward too. Since for me I loved that character largely because of the voice I just decided not to play.

On the otherhand, if the voice actor has a scandal (cough adultery) then I whole heartedly welcome it. It takes time but I come to respect the new voice actor.

I'm pretty chill about it, though it can be hard to get used to a new voice for a character — especially if it's your favorite. It kinda feels like they lose some of their charm in that moment. But I understand that companies have valid reasons for recasting, so I try to accept it.

If the quality of the voice acting is the same, I don't really care. I don't mind if the voice is a bit different if the delivery/how the character is portrayed is similar. If that changed too it would be more jarring.

I probably won't be able to get used to it at first, but honestly, there's not much we can do about it. In the end, all I can hope for is that the new VA does a great job with the character, and then I'll just try to slowly adjust to the new voice over time.
