How do you feel about a guy playing otome?

insane how these people act like women are those delicate fragile flowers that CANNOT distinguish between fiction and reality and therefore HAVE to be protected. "omg this is definitely written by a man omg women dont even enjoy that" women write/draw some of the most degenerate shit on the planet for both women AND men!!!!! you people dont know anything!!!!!!!!!
and also, yui is still treated better in dialovers than your average female character in a dark galge. why not call them out too while we are at it? (better not because who the hell cares)

Fr, women are carrying the romance genre worldwide and find success with the darkest weirdest stuff ever and people just... Cannot comprehend women possibly... Knowing that fiction isn't reality... Sighs...

People give Yui so little credit when she's one of the most versatile heroines imo. You can go from being uwu I can fix him w my love because he needs it to welp guess what fam y'all need to die for the sake of the plot (can you tell I rlly like Kanato's HDB route—) when playing the game. Such a good main character and player avatar imo.

I've seen the same happen to shoujosei manga/manwha/manhua and even western romance novels as well.
dengeki daisy used to exist in peace for 20 years but as soon as it hit animetwt suddenly its too problematic and fetishizes the normalization of generalization of pedophilia in young girls

When I played Yves's route, maybe I was just too dense, or maybe it was because I didn't fall for him, but I honestly didn't really notice any BL undertones. It was only later when someone told me that there's actually some gay content in the game that I was shocked. After thinking back carefully, I realized there really is some one sided gay attraction. Everyone really has very different levels of tolerance. But I can also understand players who dislike this kind of story, because I have certain types of content I can't stand myself.

i mean people also didnt notice bl undertones in latest utapri games and look where we ended up with it..;w; not to mention that the bl crush in virche was actually confirmed, and they had to actively retcon it in the fd. makes you wonder though why would they include those elements in the first place..
(and eventually it led to creation of altergear which no one cares about LMAO)

I don't really care who plays what, honestly. If women can play gal games and some guys can enjoy BL, then guys playing otome games isn't a big deal to me either.

The reason it sometimes feels a bit weird is that most of the male otome players I come across are content creators. When it's posted online, it can feel less like "I genuinely enjoy this game" and more like "look at this unusual thing I'm doing." There's often a novelty factor to it.

If someone's just playing it for fun in private, though, I don't see any issue at all. Play whatever you like.

same honestly. but after years of BL training, I was surprised his route was supposed to be the main route like bruh I can smell the 100 chapter worthy of rival slash yearning slash unrequited attraction from miles away, and I've barely finished 1 playthru. Author r we fr😭

Exactly. I wish they just hadn't included those elements from the start. It's really just the writer's own personal fetish. Because once I start thinking back and reflecting on it, I end up feeling the same disgust as those female players who hate "BL in otome" content. Just because the writer handles it with a lighter touch doesn't mean they should be allowed to sneak BL elements into otome games. That will only make them bolder and more blatant about disgusting the players. So I support boycotting it.

Not only I think it's completely fine, I actually really like when male players enjoy otoge (of course, as long as they aren't mocking/nitpicking the genre and playing respectfully!!), and I even encourage some male friends of mine to play otoge. Some straight guys I know have been pleasantly surprised by otoge, and enjoyed playing a game with a female perspective

I also play games targeted towards male audiences, like galge and eroge, and I don't criticize the tropes from those genres just because they're not written with female players in mind. If men are interested in otoge and play it with the same attitude, no reason to have problems with it! I've seen many male players criticize otoge for common tropes like yandere or "problematic" LIs, as if teenage girls aren't capable of critical thought or separating fiction from reality

I'm also not interested in pandering to male audiences with male MCs, so as long as they don't start attacking companies for not including it, all is fine by me :)

I'd be surprised, I'd love to meet a guy I know who likes otome games! Although, honestly, I don't really care who it is; as long as we have similar tastes, that's enough for me.

and then virche/tengoku struggle happened. and then grmn stuff happened. and then animate april 1st joke happened. two of four of these things got retconned precisely because girlies were loud with their criticisms, so its not bad to protect your hobbies at all!
Its wild how the Animate April 1st incident happened so soon after the Garumani situation, talk about terrible timing. In general I feel like its been a turbulent few months since March-ish where both JP and EN otome fans have to keep defending the genre and so much of this stems from too many outsiders who conflate "female otaku" with "fujoshi" + some omnivores (people who can enjoy both otome/bl) assuming that every other female otaku is like them, so there's no problem with mixing territories. Except for some reason the "mixing" is only a one-way street and otome is the only one getting bl bait thrown into it lol.

She's working on Crazy Chain too right? I'm actually looking forward to that game but I'm also so scared LOL especially after they released that tweet stating the obvious so soon after the Kimi ni Madoi, Kimi ni Oboreru official account made one with more concrete wording. (Attached both tweets)

whats worse is that the vagueness of this tweet actually harms their case, because unlike wakudeki who explicitly stated that there will be no samesex relationships at all (due to the chosen trope), cc only said that cc is a game about a romance between a woman and a man. which is like, sure???? that doesnt mean there wont be any surprise bl shit???????? especially considering whos the main writer for this game lmao??

yup exactly! very weird how you dont see otome spinoffs for bl games.. why not? most bl players are women anyway, and some of them are also into otome. i sure wonder why they dont do that!

i wonder if they were trying to gain some brownie points by doing that? like, deliberately cause a massive controversy riding the wave of an already existing controversy --> people get rightfully upset and call you out --> quickly delete the offensive tweet and give them your apologies --> people start flocking back because They Listened (conspiracy)

True, I doubt many are actually playing it out of their own free will for pure enjoyment.
That being said, there is a male JP youtuber who sometimes plays otome and joseimuke games that I enjoy watching haha, I feel like he actually enjoys them but I guess its still "content" at the end of the day so who knows. I think that novelty factor is unavoidable since its generally so rare for men to even seek out female-orientated media compared to the reverse happening. Misogyny is everywhere for those with the eyes to see...:censored:

Possibly, but I think the old farts working in animate just dont have a clue and havent bothered to learn the difference between different types of female otaku. As long as we're swiping and giving them our money its none of their concern :ROFLMAO: hopefully they learned something after that incident though. A huge company like animate making a mistake like that is pretty grim... thats why I cant be too mad about people kicking up a fuss even though it might come off as excessive sometimes. You have to make the lines and distinctions clear before its too late, especially as a consumer.

im sorry but no amount of complaining from otome girlies will top male otakus funny reaction to kakyuusei 2

Omg... I can't believe I never heard of this before HAHA I don't think I've ever seen any primarily female fandom acting like this? Unless it was about real K/J-idols lol but you're right. Otome girlies don't really get to that level.
