How did you discover the r18 cd scene?

Inspired by How did you discover otome games genre?.

For me, I was looking for "anime manga" battle scenes and saw some post about Silverio Ragnarok which is an eroge (didn't know anything about eroge at the time). The scene was the mc fighting with a blonde knight (my type) (picture below) Rufus voiced by 初時チェリー himself. I thought he sounded so good and was feeling so sad that he died so pitifully so I went looking for other characters voiced by him to comfort myself by searching his name on google. This was around 2022 so he didn't have much cd so the only thing that returned was his twitter account and see his retweet about his new cds on dlsite. I clicked the link not knowing wtf was even dlsite and my face when I heard his panting in the preview audio (made an account and bought immediately)??? Then I discovered that there was a whole ass industry (?) for this thing.
Thinking back there were so many coincidences. If Rufus didn't die in the prologue (which is the only thing available for me to watch for free on youtube at the time), I wouldn't have felt sad and went looking for the voice actor's other characters. If 初時チェリー didn't make his twitter account EXACTLY during 2022 and shared his works, I wouldn't have discovered dlsite.

And then me discovering that popular voice actors have alias for r18 works is another story. I played this game called Gunvolt Luminous Avenger iX 2 and there was a silver hair ninja boss voiced by Makoto Furukawa himself that was my type (again) who died (again) so I felt sad (again) and went around looking for other characters voiced by him (again) and then I wanted to just hear his cool voice monologue so I decided to be brave, or naive, and searched "古川慎 dlsite". I expected to hear him pantings but found his non-r18 cds instead which was not good enough for me. So I just googled "古川慎 dlsite bilibili" because people were posting cds there. Then something caught my eyes. It was a bilibili post that has dlsite in the title and 古川慎 [(*insert his alias here*)] in the body (quite concerning how this was lowkey so accessible). I googled his alias and my face when I heard his panting in the preview audio (bought immediately)??? Then the rest is history lol.

mine is stupid as fuck. i was part of an anime database (like mal or anilist), and there was an ability to comment under many pages, seiyuu's included. so i randomly saw a comment under hanae natsuki's page, linking a soundcloud playlist with his r18 works.. and i got hooked.. then i went to check sttk's works out of pure interest (because he voiced my number one hasubando), and i got HOOOOOKED........ it was in like. 2018? maybe even earlier than that. but my obsession went for a long time. i still remember watashi no kemono and aishi kimi ni koibumi wo...... i was so defeated when soundcloud started cracking down on piracy............. but watashi no kemono was recently re-shared here, which im irrationally happy about..........;w;w;w;w;w;w;
and i discovered more of the scene through translation blogs! they used to be very prevalent back then, and they translated a lot of stuff, which i feel like doesnt happen much nowadays? or maybe im just not looking hard enough haha
also, one time my sheer curiosity caused me to google "kenjiro tsuda cddrama r18" just to discover he doesnt have any. i felt a little relieved.

nowadays though i prefer listening to audios of non-veteran seiyuu, but rather those who are focused on r18 scene. yagami sen, uitoki cherry, mitsuhashi wataru, like that. though i would be happy if they appeared in some r18 otome games eheehehehehehe
mitsuhashi wataru has a role in these two vns but both are from succulent so im a little iffy on that. and in this one apparently which is from magic house so i have a little more trust in it. both are pretty old however:(

now that i check closer, it seems that both yagami sen and uitoki cherry have some otome works as well? thats so cool...... since r18 otome as a whole seem to be coming back slowly but steadily, maybe we will hear more of them in the nearby future..^^

its always so fun to think about how much stuff you discovered on pure accident, how dumb these accidents are sometimes, and what would your interests turn out to be if you didnt. your story was very fun and insightful! (although i feel a little bad for you losing your faves so easily......) thank you for sharing^^

Oh yeah it was soundcloud first, then people immigrated to audiomack, but that didn't last long before audios are mass taken down too.

Sadly I don't think r18 otome are coming back because there are just so few these days. As far as I know there's only two releasing this year Les Grandes Odalisques and The Goddess Of Tears. I can't recall if any released the last 2 years.

I sometimes like to see r18 (non-veteran) voice actors in non-otome battle VN (eroge). It feels different to see them getting serious and scream etc. It's something that is VERY rare in the voice drama scene. For example, the one with Uitoki Cherry I mentioned or This one with Mie Kanade and Kirigi Lee (also has Haru Danji and Sumeragi Mikado but I don't count then as non-veteran lol). Especially Mie Kanade in that VN sounds so bratty and angry-cat vibes whicj I've never seen before (praying that he has one sounding like that in the future 🙏). Sadly these kind of eroge also get released less and less from what I see.

Oh since these guys are side character in an eroge I'm prepared for them to perish lol. Doesn't make it less sad but I love the angst I feel. I like those eroge because they're one of the few source of really good angst I can get from characters played by my favorite r18 voice drama voice actors (angsty voice drama exists but these two things don't feel the same for me).

This thread brought up some nostalgia! I got into R18 drama CDs through sound cloud. I believe it was around the 2010s. I was looking for drama CDs for the otome game Brother's Conflict on sound cloud and came across playlists of R18 drama CDs. I remember learning how seiyuu would have alternate names for their R18 activities like Furukawa Makoto's pseudonym Tetrapod Noboru. From sound cloud, I also hopped over to tumblr since some blogs posted translations and recommendations for R18 Drama CDs.

My friend was listening to the Otome CD and introduced it to me, so I knew that there were all kinds of R18 CDs. Later, we listened to various works together. Some R18 voice actors matched well and had an impression of the name.

I like to listen to works with depth of the script, such as describing the characters' inner emotions, mood changes, interpersonal interactions, etc. It's not just developing physical relationships, which is too boring.

Oh~ I can hardly remember. I think I started by playing the game, then I heard other people sharing dramas on music apps, and then I followed the trail and found those R18 CDs. Oh~ those old days of figuring things out on my own, to be honest, I don't even know how I found them.

Every else here is making me relive my soundclound obsession 🤣 I first started listening to AA cds on there and then unknowingly clicked on an R18 cd, suddenly something shifted in my brain like, huh, i didnt know cds could be ecchi!! Then i discovered the kare pillow series and here i am today 😭😭

really?:0 maybe im way too positive then.. because we also have the second reproduction reunion coming out next year, plus key la box recently escaped development hell, and also we got a brand new r18 otome gacha (valkyrie heart). sure, its not as many releases as aa otome or galge, but i still think the scene is alright:"3

ah true!! moanings are good and all, but its always nice to see your faves get more opportunities in various genres^^ now, if only eroge as an industry wasnt so shaky.. but i guess being into a niche hobby is quite nice too..

Hypnosis masturbation was all the rage back then, so I looked it up to see what it was all about.
I think the first time I heard about it was on a 5ch message board, where the creators themselves were giving away free audio files. People like ducat and zero.
Setting aside whether I could actually enter a trance state, I started listening to them because the gentle voices helped me sleep soundly.
In that community, "Hypno-Polynesian ~Blue Heaven~" was the talk of the town for being incredibly effective, which is how I discovered DLsite, and I just got sucked right in.

I remember when hypnosis masturbation was all the rage!
I listened to a lot of those free downloadable tracks, too.
I think hypnosis masturbation was what sparked the popularity of the "Doujin voice" genre.

I started with all-age situation CD, these CDs recorded with dummy head microphone are teasingly suggestive. I can't recall exactly when I crossed that line, once you discover these voice actors' alts, there's no turning back.

Like a lot of people here, I discovered R18 CDs through soundcloud. But I think my first ever exposure to otome CDs was actually a review of Yandere Heaven. Then, I discovered Wasurenagusa which led to me trying to learn more about this audio scene :ROFLMAO:

It was a long time ago, but I was addicted to smartphone games and fell in love with Ryohei Kimura's character, and I wanted to hear more of his voice, so I searched and found Diabolik lovers☺️

There was a game and a CD, but I didn't have a game console, so when I listened to the CD on the Internet, there was a shocking bloodsucking scene! I can't believe there is such a world... I've listened to various people's CDs from there in no time. At that time, CD sales were the mainstream of R18 audio, so I bought a lot... I was about to go bankrupt
