How did you discover otome games genre?

I think it started because of the anime that came out for a while that were originally otome games, like Diablic Lovers, Kamigami no Asobi, Amnesia, and others. Eventually, as I looked into some of them, I discovered that they were originally otome games.

I remember I was on the internet and saw an ad for a My Candy Love game where Nathaniel appeared. I was interested, so I clicked on it and started playing. I liked it because it was in Spanish, and then a friend told me that several anime had their own games, and she recommended a website where they translated Ijiwaru My Master. I got hooked on the character of Lucas/Ryuka.

kinda basic answer but i got into it through Mystic Messenger and then watched the Diabolik Lovers anime

Pretty sure it was Hatoful Boyfriend for me.. or at least that's as far as I can remember. But a vivid memory I do recall is someone I knew at school telling me about Hakuouki. Initially I thought it was just some samurai series LOL but I would say the very first otome I actively paid attention to was UtaPri!!

Around 2014 or 2015, I was looking for a new anime to watch and stumbled upon Diabolik Lovers. Seeing all those hot guys on the banner I immediately started watching and quickly became obsessed with it. After that I fell down into the rabbit hole Even when I couldn't understand what was going on I still watched a ton of otome playthroughs and MADs/AMVs on Youtube.

Iirc, the first otome I've played was Shall we date Wizardess Heart. Since I didn't have my own phone back then I played it on my dad's. But my English was so bad at the time that I had to look up every single word so I gave up pretty quickly. Then I came across My Candy Love which was translated into my own language, so I started playing that instead. Once my English improved, I played my fair share of android otome games and eventually moved on to pc titles too!!

It was from watching anime. I watched a couple of anime that were based off of otome games. My initial reason for watching and what caught my attention was the MC being surrounded by a bunch of handsome good looking guys I've always enjoyed and loved reading romance/shoujo manga so I was really curious what will happen and who will end up with the MC. I later found out they were based off of otome games and that was also when I learned about visual novels. From there, I started playing otome games and never looked back haha.

I'm really glad I learned about otome games because I no longer have to be sad when the second male lead or other another male lead I was rooting for doesn't get picked by the MC, like when I'm reading manga, since they get their own routes. Although now I get sad when some of my fave side characters do not get their own routes
