Have you ever thought a bad ending was more romantic than the good ending?

I know good endings are supposed to be the most satisfying, but am I the only one who sometimes finds bad endings more romantic? Especially if the otome ml is a yandere LMAO.

There's something about tragic, bittersweet, or even slightly twisted endings that makes them so much more memorable. Sometimes the emotions feel more intense, and the characters' feelings seem more raw and genuine.

I'm not saying I'd want any of that in real life but in fiction, sometimes a perfectly happy ending just doesn't hit the same.

Feel free to share examples!!

Shiima's lunatic ending from Sullyland was like this for me lol
All the lunatic endings were amazing, but Shiima as a character is not my usual type of love interest, so seeing them go all out with the questionable themes that made his route interesting to me was great! Also his line (included in a pre-release trailer, but I'll hide it just in case)
「ふふ......初めてのふたりの共同作業だ。結婚式のケーキ入刀なんかより......ずっと、絆が深まるんじゃ、ないかなあッ......」
made this ending all the more memorable 🤤

Yeah, Scien's Despair ending in Virche Evermore is tragic, but also really good.
His entire route was about how he considered emotions unnecessary, only for him to make Relivers able to store them, all while losing Ceres and being forced to descend into madness as he hears her voice? Ooof, I felt it was karma.

Ooh I haven't seen Shiima's lunatic ending yet, but now you've got me curious LOL 😭 I love when a route takes an unexpected dark turn, especially with characters who aren't usually my type. Definitely looking forward to seeing how his ending plays out!

The first character that comes to mind is Majima from Chou Doku HAHA.
It's either becoming blissfully unaware of The Truth in the good end or being dragged into the darkness together the in bad...
Beautiful 😃. And omg Shima's L end was wild AF and just kept snowballing ajsgkfdg Neo's L and Kiseki's L were one of my favs so I agree that Sullyland's Lunatic endings are just perfect in that regard

Even though I'm not a fan of bad endings, I ended up completing all of them—including those in *Chou no Doku, Hana no Kusari* and its follow-up, *Chou no Doku, Hana no Kusari: Gensou Yawa*.

Chojiro's bad ending in nightshade is tragic but so good. It honestly felt fitting given all the horrible events leading up to it, and even though it was sad it also felt happy in a way 💔

MC and Chojiro get captured by the enemies and are forced to have a duel to the death with eachother. They both decide to kill eachother at the same time and die together in eachothers arms.

I honestly really loved this because they were finally able to love eachother in peace instead of having to deny their feelings fo eachother or worry about being on opposing sides anymore 🥹

I think Yesss! Especially if the MC and ML died together in the ending ദ്ദി˶˃ ᵕ ˂ )✧ And I hope I can encounter an otome game with that kind of trope.. (*ˊᗜˋ*)

Nicolas's bad ending, somehow, feels more romantic to me than his good ending. I can't really explain it, but there's something about the atmosphere and emotional intensity that makes it more appealing.

Omg I actually love how you described it as tragic but happy in a way 😭 There's something so bittersweet about two characters finally being able to choose each other, even if it means they can't have a future together. Sometimes that kind of ending feels even more romantic than a traditional happy ending because of how emotionally impactful it is. AND THAT CG IS SO BEAUTIFUL BUT HEARTBREAKING 💔

Sometimes, 100%! There's just something so intensely romantic about them choosing each other even if it all falls apart

Bad endings can absolutely be more romantic. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this 😭💔 I still think about certain bad ends weeks later.

OMG, I was actually going to mention him too!
Chojiro's route wasn't really my cup of tea, but his ending and that CG have stuck with me ever since.

I feel the same way! It really depends on the bad ending, but sometimes I find them even more romantic and emotionally impactful than good endings. Even if the relationship or the ending itself is twisted, I think there's something special about them that makes them leave a lasting impression.

Yes, yes, yes!!! 100% agree on this one!!!!! Also I'd like to point out!!!
The worst thing about this ending is that Scien himself can't be sure if "Ceres's" replies are actually hers. It could instead be just be him having some sort of psychosis: "hearing" Ceres's voice, what he wants/needs her to say; by forcefully transferring her memories to his brain, he created an amalgamation of the "self" in which he cannot differentiate where Ceres ends and where he, Scien, starts. He must've known the consequences of this action, given that he created the system, yet he still committed it out of desperation—out of love.
Either way, he's insane! Horrifying. 10/10.

I feel the same way about Sins of KALEIDO; the game completely drew me in, and I managed to finish it in less than a week. I love the bad endings for all the characters, but as for the good endings... it's quite rare for me to dislike happy endings this much. To me, they all felt just a bit too perfect. I think the developers could have put more effort into those—take Eugene's route, for instance, where Orsem just resolves everything by shooting the gunman and walking away as if it were just another Tuesday.
Virche is also somewhat in that same boat, though for me it's more of a personal preference—I wanted the 'problem' and the mystery in the game to be definitively magical rather than scientific. But, as I said, that's just a personal take; overall, I really enjoyed Virche.

Yes!! That's why I like certain bad-ending storylines even more, they're just so beautiful and atmospheric. Compared to good endings, bad endings leave a deeper impression. Even after half a year or a year, I'll still roughly remember the bad ending, but I'll have mostly forgotten the good ending, after all, good endings are all pretty much the same.

A bad ending leaves a lot of regret and stays with me for a long time. But if I'm playing a game, I'll play the good ending first, then play the bad ending, and after being hurt by the plot, I'll go back and replay the good ending. I just treat the bad ending as an "if" storyline.
