General BL Games Discussion Thread

My god would the list would get lengthy on the topic, but from the top of my head :

Gian Carlo from Lucky Dog 1 since he felt like such a breath of fresh air (and Bad Egg only made those feelings stronger so even with the va change both guys did a stellar job with the delivery)
Oosaki from Ooe since so much of the game is seeing how he develops and grows.
Kurotori Yuzuru from Tokyo Satsujinki, because frankly the game is ultimately all about him anyway so you either walk out loving the guy or probably best leave it untouched otherwise.
And last but not least - Towa from Slow Damage since his arc was the one thing that kept me playing until the end.

Without a doubt, my favorite is Aoba. DRAMAtical Murder was one of the first games of its genre that I played, and I have a lot of affection for it. I must have finished it three or four times; Clear's route remains my favorite.
Clear's my favorite route in DMMD as well! I love how his relationship with Aoba develops in game.
The game is very nostalgic for me, even if it's not my favorite BL title nowadays.

Just stumbled upon this thread so err...hello everyone?

Recently finished Tokyo Satsujinki so I've been in the kind of downtime of slowly digesting how that game ended while trying to pick out what to clear out from my endless backlog next (since part of me says to finally bite and go for Mebiusline since it's the only one left among the older titles that had the shared 'setting' while another insists to go for something more lighter & short that tends to land in the really old & obscure stuff valley)

Which is to say I'm curious on hearing other people's opinions on their own experience/views re:TokySatsu ( just how important Mebiusline really is to it from someone that knows both)

I feel the same. DMMD was such an early, formative game for me that I don't feel like I can properly rank it with other BL's. It just sits in my little mental nostalgia shrine. Aoba's like my old friend I go back and visit from time to time.

I have so many favourites but Towa is definitely at the top of my list. I just love his character and how he's written so much. Next are Azuma from Paradise and Konoe.

Like many of the others on the thread Giancarlo from lucky dog1 comes to mind, due to his bright and ambitious personality. His tonal shift in the sequel is something I really couldn't stomach though. But personally, I really loved Yuni from Re;quartz raid, he was such a complex character, oozing with charisma, charm, and above all drive. I really hope they give that series a sequel

Alex from Beyond Eden.
He's so cool, smart, and charismatic. And even though he does a lot of questionable things to achieve his goals, I still feel bad for him.
He kinda reminds me of Yashiro from Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai.
I just love him and want him to be happy.

JJ!!!! from Omerta is definitely my all time favorite.
I am a total JJ simp (as you can see lol).
Love to see other JJ simps here. Your paragraph pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about his character!! His personality created some unique dynamics with the other characters. And he's just too badass and fun to watch.

Second favorite would probably be the yaoi jesus himself Aoba

my favorite bl protag is Kiriku from Dystopia no Ou. he's just right for me. he's both dummy and pretty smart, crazy enough to run away from rich life and one of the most sane characters in the pil/slash vns. dude is very charismatic and rule whole story around him, but at the same time he is the one who gave me one of the most cringe experience in the blvns. i do think that Dystopia is not the best pil/slash game (or blvn in general) but personally, i just love Kiriku.

It's definitely HIM. 👇
P.s. Its from Ooe.

I haven't played Tokyo Satsujjinki yet, but I've played Mebiusline, and honestly the way it ended doesn't make me think there's any real-world changing difference that it could've made in Tokyo Satsujinki's history. Mebiusline doesn't really have an earth-shattering mystery, or a heel face turn except maybe Senge's route, but considering his isn't the true route I somehow doubt that any ending in Mebiusline could affect the series even if it's in the same universe.

Fun fact, I looked up vndb and apparently tokyo onmyouji is in the same setting as well! What did you think of satsujinki, I've been procrastinating it in my back log for quite a while, and I'd love to know what you thought

Hi hi! ʚ♡⃛ɞ(ू•ᴗ•ू❁)
First of all, thanks for creating such a comfy thread!
Personally, I played both TokyoSatsu and Taishou Mebiusline with a time difference of 2 years.
In my opinion, the only resemblance that I could think of is the Japanese mythology and onmyoji techniques (so for me it's not that important to read both to understand the setting). Even the concept of Aramatsuri/Amaterasu powers (that is a base of entire TokyoSatsu game) or their origins wasn't even mentioned in Mebiusline. Maybe I'm wrong, so I would be happy if someone explained me otherwise <3
I haven't played Tokyo Onmyoji though, maybe it could've explained more.
Still, I have my own question to those, who played TokyoSatsu! (●'▽'●)ゝ
Which route you liked the most?
Briefly, for me it's obviously Inami's and Tsubaki's routes, other routes were also good (though Isshiki's seemed a little bit rushed to me...)

Of course, my number one favourite will forever be the GOAT of Yaoi: Aoba Seragaki
I mean, come on, look at him, look at my boi, how can anyone resist this lil cutie???
This is also my first ever BL, so I'll forever hold it dear inside my heart. My favourite route is Noiz and Clear; I love all routes, but these two just make me tear up no matter how many times I replay it.

Youji Sakiyama from Sweet Pool is my personal pick.
I wasn't super invested in the BL aspect of Sweet Pool, but I was very invested in Youji. I just wanted him to have a happy ending :(

I happily second anyone who says Towa Slow Damage as well! It's just Youji is my dearly beloved son so I am very biased towards him-

Oh, I see.

It's a relief to hear that it's the usual easter eggs then since I'd seen some sources promote it as the 'culmination' of the series so far yet the only actual serious connection that I noticed by the last bits of the last route
was how Yuzuru stepping up to replace Ama was implied to be behind the youkai/ayakashi/etc being real beings in the other games since it talked about him actively removing all the present misfortunes so people are always happy meant humans sought a new source of problems to point their fingers towards. So if you really stretch it, maybe they meant that this was supposed to be the origin story of what led to the setting Beniiro/Mebiusline/etc follow? Since while I don't know about Mebiusline, they had a trackrecord with Beniiro and Onmyouji both involving a Haori among the cast that never appeared here (unless you count Yato's semipromotion as the now towards Omyouji)

My overall opinion for TokySatsu is that the game was both a fun experience to go through yet still had clear flaws, since it kinda pursued two different plots at the same time and one of them felt clearly weaker to me?
by which I mean there is the ''a plot'' that felt on the superficial side due to how the opening intro reveals details this side treats as these big mysteries to figure out + A ''B one'' that does actually feel like you gradually got hints throughout the game to slowly figure out what was truly going on there yet mostly occurs during bad ends so often they felt more engaging and fun than the actually romantic endings
Still would recomment trying it out to people that enjoy bad endings (as reaching the first one would be around the best point to judge if it's really for you or not) since I did overall like it and it got me motivated to attempt translating some of the more comedic bits that don't include spoilers

re:Tokyo Onmyouji
I've actually played that one, so I can at least assure that it doesn't really change anything from that side.
From what I remember it mostly had outright cameos from Beniiro + had one route that delved into onmyouji family practices (that you get another example with Isshiki anyway)
Unless of course Mebiusline changes something about it, but I don't remember anything particularly standing out

Fav route...yeah I'd have to mirror listing Inami and Tsubaki there too. Since I tend to initially do a blind run of the games I'd play, in restrospect the later was the best 'introduction' I could have had to continue playing while earning a special spot as that 'first experience' of what the game was about.
I wasn't surprised that Tsubaki would disappear from the plot in other routes either due to having played Tokyo 24ku, so at least it meant I had some attachment to the guy whenever he was put on screen just to get killed. It got almost funny when you could visibly see Tsubaki among the pile of dead bodies in a CG yet the narration didn't bother to explain what happened there for quite some time.
Tendo meanwhile felt fine but I kinda liked the brother more to truly like it?
(And agree on Isshiki feeling rushed since it really felt like a jump from 0-100 and the only closest to a good part
was when during the route hopping to progress to Inami's good ending, there was the alternate branch where Yuzuru actually confronted the guy as the 'mastermind' behind the incidents so there was finally some friction instead of completely dismissing everything that happened before Yuzuru's happy fanfiction space to present the two as being deeply in love. Isshiki's whole character is such a mess when you pause to think about it, really

I don't think Mebiusline does anything about it. Mebiusline basically set up a vague settei with onmyouji/priest families and their relationship to government elites through the ages, but it doesn't actually do a lot to explore it. On the supernatural front, it was mostly interested in the concept of death in Shintoism and how weird it actually is. Aside from Misaki, they're all up to their necks in necromancy over there as opposed to the usual onmyoudou stuff.

TBH, I've never gotten the impression that TokyoSatsu is the culmination of the series....I think it's a neat way to see how the settei has progressed through one century? Like how you can look at Mononoke Hime, Spirited Away and Totoro as 3 different takes on Japanese youkai and their relationship to humanity in 3 separate time frames, if you want to look at it that way.

Considering the 'series' is kind of HolicWorks' bread and butter I think it'd also be against their interests to conclude it atm lol.

Ah, I see. So overall just focusing on an aspect that in TokySatsu was mostly treated as minor characters since there was the one dude looking to rebuild their position of power
though I could see the necromancy being somewhat relevant since the whole point of Inami's goal was to bring back his Yuzuru from the overcompliicated soul limbo that was going on

Perhaps I chose the wrong word for it since the source of that impression wasn't in english, but the idea I meant was less closure but more ''payoff on the build up from the previous games'' that could signal that maybe they were done with explaining the basics on how the world/factions of that series are meant to work to some extent while always leaving in loopholes for putting in something new by the next one (or as per 24ku, still make it connected somehow though the liveaction drama comment). Kind of like, we were in season 1 and next title starts out season 2 or something like that

I don't doubt that the series is far from over since in all likelyhood it's just a matter of time till Nakajo is called in to pen a new one after Suito has run it's course on the market
