Explicit otome and tame BL

Otome tend to be on the "safer" side (even if there're some implications) while BL usually come with a lot of explicit scenes.
What is your experience with 18+ otome and with tame BL? Which do you prefer? (nsfw otome/bl vs sfw otome/bl)
Do you think explicit scenes add to or take away from the story? Do they matter to you?

I play all kinds of R18 games (not limited to female-targeted ones), so I consider myself quite tolerant of even bad h-scenes (lol)

I like R18 otome. Although many titles do suffer a bit balancing explicit scenes with proper relationship development, I think the scenes do add to the overall atmosphere and intimacy between the characters. Chou no Doku, for example, has good h-scenes that work well in context. The game deals with taboo topics, so the way the scenes are written, it makes sense to add them (I don't think they're essential for character development though, and you can see it with the censored English release not losing too much by omitting them). Mature games can use the more explicit moments to delve into the emotional and intimate aspects of a relationship, and most of those games deal with heavier, edgier themes (that I love!), that can match well with those types of scenes

For me, at least, if a story is written with explicit scenes first, it just makes sense that they'll fit well with the plot. Some games do overdo it a bit, but I also think it's fair to say that an eroge otome that is bad because it has too many h-scenes probably won't be good even without them ;b (bad writing is bad writing, whether the creator tries to mask it with fanservice or not)

As for tame BL, I haven't played many titles, except censored console releases of R18 BL games (I've been eyeing Town of Nie and Re;quartz Raid for a while, but haven't got to it yet!), but I do like them! I don't think h-scenes are a necessity, and many games do a good job with console releases, like adding new routes

I'd say h-scenes can matter, and they can add to the story, but they're not really a necessity. As for whether I prefer NSFW or SFW otoge/BL, I don't really have a preference about that and I'm open to trying all kinds of games :)

It depends! If nsfw scenes are not relevant to the plot and are here just for the sake of being explicit, I'll consider it eroge (nukige) and enjoy it respectively. If they are relevant - will read as usuall

On the topic of sfw BLs I highly recomend Akaya Akashiya Ayakashino and Daylight - Asa ni Hikari no Kan o. They are so tame I'm not even sure it's BL. Would like to see more big story-oriented and not only nsfw-oriented titles, but alas, existing big developers are mostly 18+ :(

I just want a good story. As long as it makes me feel something, I'll like it even if it's explicit.
At first glance, No, Thank You! didn't seem like it would have anything of substance but after playing the game, I totally did a 180. It was so sad and heart wrenching and I just love Haru so much!
Beyond Eden was the same. I loved its story!

I prefer my otome most of the time all age cuz.. i don't really like most available MC x LI dynamic in the bed 😭🙏 Though i played a gacha 18+ otome called Valkyrie Heart and I like seeing Sheehan and Leiknarr H Scene 🤔 I do listen to R18+ Otome situation CD Drama like Namidame...

For safe BL, i usually play the SFW version if i don't like the MC LI dynamic in bed, like Gakuen Heaven... but i rarely play an actual SFW BL

So yeah, my taste in R-18 stuff is specific and most of the time i rather have a completely SFW version than have an NSFW version not to my liking (I wish everyday for kintouka SFW ver)

I've played very few 18+ otome games, maybe only four or five. But when it comes to BL games, practically all of them are 18+. I think it's a matter of different focus. With a female protagonist, if you use the kind of brutal, explicit content found in 18+ games, it feels hard to bear. With a male protagonist in BL, it feels like the more intense, the better(つд⊂)— if it's too tame or all ages, it doesn't feel quite right. That said, well written explicit content can still enhance the story. Having it is better than not having it (?)

omg this was one of the first dramacd ive listened to LMAO. specifically part 4 i think! the bonus track was insane..!
Owhhh yesss part 4 is quite good ☺️ i remember it being the mommy kink one 🤤

I don't have enough experience with either to actually comment on which of these I prefer (I do have some titles on my backlog, though, but I'm far from getting to them), but by principle I wish there were more R18 otome games and SFW BL VNs. I just like a sense of balance with stuff in general and telling myself that there's a little bit of everything for everyone out there!

I can hardly remember an R18 otome that made me glad there were R18 scenes. Is it just me, or are the MCs in these always virgins, but then, instead of it feeling good for the MC, it's painful to the point of bleeding and/or focuses more on male-gaze content? I'm disappointed whenever there's excessive anal or blowjobs in these that focus on the MC doing the act rather than even the LI's pleasure from it.

Random as hell, but I also own a few of the Namidame CDs, www.
