Overview:
Phantom of Inferno details the life of a 15-year-old Japanese boy who is kidnapped after witnessing the killing of a reporter. The memories of his past life are erased, and he is given the choice to join 'Inferno' or die. After joining the organization he is given the name 'Zwei' (German for number 'two') and will study under 'Ein' (German for 'one'). Ein is also known as 'Phantom', the title given to the organization's top assassin.

Original Title: Phantom -PHANTOM OF INFERNO-
Aliases: ファントム, PoI
Release Date: 2000-02-25 (original), 2004-11-19 (translated here)
Developer: NITRO PLUS & Regista
Publisher: NITRO PLUS & Conteride Co., Ltd. & Hirameki International & Princess Soft & Anime Works
VNDB link: https://vndb.org/v45
Operating System:
Windows
Patch Version: 1.00
For Game Version: 1.00
Censored:
Yes (mosaics)
Language(s): English
Translator: Me
Translation Type:
Slightly edited AI MTL (Gemini 2.5 Pro Exp-03-25)

Installation:
1. Download the original game from somewhere and then patch it using the attached archive, or just get everything in one piece from MEGA: https://mega.nz/file/BLZwwagS#zbYLSyRRCcTDzBcrd_cKSnNiYm7GNCCaQyjfEOGo_4g
2. Extract the contents into a folder with read and write access.
3. Install SafeDiscShim from here: https://github.com/RibShark/SafeDiscShim
4. Installing and using Locale Emulator (https://github.com/xupefei/Locale-Emulator) is strongly recommended, though the game seems to display translated text even without it.
5. Launch phantom.exe located in the extracted folder.

Translation Notes:
I've initially made this for myself because the existing DVD version is barely usable, but then decided to polish it a bit and release it somewhere.
Initial translation was done by the latest Gemini Pro model, then I've read every route and applied fixes in the process, mainly related to incorrect jumps between different scripts and obviously wrong or weird-sounding translations.
Original system.dll doesn't work on modern Windows versions, so I used the patched one from https://vndb.org/r129448 and then modified it again to translate UI elements.
I've also included a folder with some original files and Python scripts to work with the game archives, in case anyone wants to perform proper proofreading

Known issues:
- There may be garbled characters somewhere because I've read the VN on an older Windows version and then quickly fixed it for Win10 without re-reading every line. At least every ending is reachable as of now.
- Patched system.dll is missing the name choosing feature; you can install a Windows XP VM and play with the original file if you need this functionality.
- "Extras" contents such as gun descriptions and standalone H-scenes were not edited.

I downloaded what I assume is the full game pre-patched from the mega link, already had Applocale installed (although my PC is usually in japanese locale by default) and installed SafeDiscShim

I get this error when trying to run phantom.exe
Did I miss a step or any other idea what could be causing it/how to fix it?

Edit: this error happens when I run the exe normally.
If I try to run it as Administrator, nothing happens at all, no error but also no game.
Also, I tried downloading the japanese version of Phantom integration, and it does run fine (asks to install DirectPlay but I skip it and it launches and seems to work anyway, could it be the issue with the patched game)

I've tested all the patch files with my own Kasperksi AV as well as Virus total since I don't usually download from this site. Nothing showed up really so ran it.

I just double-checked the mega.nz archive and it worked perfectly fine on my PC after I extracted it and run phantom.exe (both with and without locale emulator). It didn't even ask for admin rights in my case, so I assume there might be something wrong with your setup - probably SafeDiscShim wasn't installed properly or something similar.

I've also received an unofficial executable that was initially made for another Nitro+ game but works for Phantom as well. It appears to directly launch the main game library (system.dll) without CD verification or any protections that came with the original .exe, making it possible to play on unprepared systems or even in mobile linux environments such as ExaGear/Winlator.
Thanks @Kakumei for providing the file, though I don't know who the original author is.

@colorjak I got the file from nitro+ official website, though I don't think its available anymore... btw have you figured anything out about hello world? and I was also wondering if its possible for you to translate
Vampirdzhija Vjedogonia, another Gen Urobuchi work from nitro+... it is a bit shorter than Phantom so I thought it would be worth asking for this favor even though it's a very selfish request.. here is the links:

https://vndb.org/v433

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1gjtaS9Pn1kP_u29RTwEQ9HcMpbxuhNHy?usp=sharing

To make videos work, go to VJED folder and copy ir50_32.dll to C/windows/win32 folder.
To run, go in the VJED folder and run VJED as administrator.

VJED/DataB/SCRIPT is where the script file is located

and I have tens of thousands of VNs so if you want anything at all, I'll share it with you.

I tried extracting data from Hello World as you asked but failed to do so because its archives had different structure and GARBro/my scripts derived from it did not work.
Another guy has made the same request since then and he also provided what appears to be tools for extracting archives from both Hello World and Vampirdzhija Vjedogonia - however, I haven't looked into those yet.
I plan on trying those tools out this weekend, and if they actually work, I'll tell you how to utilize Gemini 2.5 to make AI translations.

@colorjak Ah, thank you. I hope it's not manual-one by one inserting lines, but even if it is, I'm sure I can manage... Though Hello World is incredibly long. Also I might try translation without MTL, but I'm not very good yet so I'd like to hear about the Gemini thing regardless. I'm very grateful for your help.
