I have a quick question about the game, in case anyone here has played it. I recall it originally being a mobile game where you had to buy chapters to keep playing. How does the PC version work? I've often seen it on Steam and wanted to buy it, but I didn't want to get a game sold in separate parts. I love this style of game, so I've always been curious about it.

Hii!! I watched the game on YouTube a while ago, but basically, the PC version is the complete game. It's also divided into chapters, but you don't need to pay for each episode individuallyI have a quick question about the game, in case anyone here has played it. Is this the Chinese game with palace theme, video-styled? Nobody put any information about it in this request so I'm not sure if this is the game being asked for.
But if it IS that game, I have to warn you guys, it can't be shared easily. Someone has to manually crack it. Afaik it works like a streaming app, internet connection is required, the videos need to be downloaded for it to play, and they tie your progress to your Steam account. Plus it has in-game currency. I tried it with my friend's copy before but it was so annoying. I think there is a crack for it floating on the internet... it's buggy though and nobody fixed it ever since. So a cracker will have to do the heavy-lifting for this.

It's similar to Paper Bride; you need to be connected to the internet just to start the game. Many Chinese games on Steam—especially mobile ports—have this kind of thing.

It's not really comparable. The Paper Bride series already got working cracks, and they're not as strict when it comes to the ownership checks at the start of the games (at least for the first 6 games, I don't know about the 7)
Road to Empress on the other hand has actual anti-cheat implemented. It's in their files. Also they don't use Steam cloud but the player's progress is still recorded for each account, to that extent it feels like a fully online game. It'd be interesting to see if anyone cracks it anyway

I have the first game but basically it is like a movie with choices you must be connected the server if you wanna play so sadly I am not able to share

- Create an account on csrinru/forum/ and search for Road to Empress.
- Open the game's thread and go to page 2.
- Look for the post by MasterNNN, dated May 1st, 2026.
A small tip from my experience: sometimes a popup error appears when launching it. If that happens, close the game (or use Task Manager to end the process) and wait around 15 to 20 seconds for it to fully close, then launch sstx_launcher.exe again. It should work on the second (or third) attempt. The same error can occasionally happen after finishing a chapter or making a choice so the same workaround applies.
I also noticed that there's a saves folder containing .json and .jsonl files. As far as I can tell, these are related to the cracked version, since the original version keeps the save data server-side rather than as normal local save files. Because of that I'd recommend making backups of the entire saves folder regularly if you don't want to risk losing progress. You could do it roughly every hour or so, or simply whenever you finish a chapter, it really depends on how much progress you're willing to lose if something goes wrong. Keeping a few backup copies can be useful too.
Another general tip I'd recommend is keeping the game in a relatively short and simple folder path, such as your Downloads folder, rather than placing it inside several nested folders with long names. If the total path gets too long, the game may fail to launch or throw an error. This isn't necessarily specific to Road to Empress since long file paths can cause problems with games and other programs in general.
I haven't encountered any other errors myself so unfortunately I can't be of much help if you run into a different issue. I have seen people mention getting errors during the videos because some video files are missing tho. There is another post in the csrinru thread that seems to provide the missing video files. You should just need to put them in the correct location where the game expects them to be.
