Do you self-insert while playing otomes?

Do you see yourself as the heroine or a separate character?

Unless the game can offer a wide range of personality types for the player to choose from,
I usually prefer a female protagonist who already has her own established background and life story.
For me,, projection means seeing all these diverse and unique personalities shine in the game and show their charm. It puts a huge smile on my face—it's like a breath of fresh air!

most of the time i treat the heroine as a separate character. since i don't relate to characters that easily, keeping them separate makes me feel more alive (?lmao) because it gives me this drive to understand and feel for them. so i try to immerse myself in how the fl thinks and operates, so on so on.

but, if i adore a love interest so much, i just swoon and try to self-insert if my imagination permits haha.

I used to because my first otome is amnesia and the heroin doesnt have a name of her own. It feels weird when the characters call me by the name.. then I discovered there are otome games with a default name for their heroines<3. Never self inserted again it just feels uncomfy for me lol.

Almost never actually. In fact its actually worse when they try to intentionally make MC as vague as possible so that anyone can somewhat see themselves in her. I feel like the amount of Otome games that do that have increased as we rarely even get a voice for MC nowadays.

keeping separate character
By maintaining that distance, I can play while anticipating what actions the character(heroine) might take in the next scene. Another reason is that if I try to fully immerse myself—pretending to *be* the character—I actually find it harder to concentrate🤣

I don't self-insert when playing otome games.

I usually see the heroine as her own character and get invested in her story, personality, and relationships with the LIs. It makes it more fun for me to watch how the romance develops rather than imagining myself in her place.

Yes, definitely! I usually self-insert when I play games, even when they're not romance games. That's probably why I really like games with a first-person perspective where I get to control the main character. When I play otome games, I also like being able to imagine myself as the protagonist and experience the happiness of the story myself. 🥰

I'm the type who projects myself onto characters.
It's like I really immerse myself in that character.
So I play using the default name.
However, there are some characters it's hard to project myself onto, so in those cases, I just play while seeing that character as a separate person, lol.

i didn't expect to be in the minority! personally, i would self insert myself into the story. it makes me happier than if it were a separate character. i believe that to be the point of fmcs, especially if i like the li alot ( ◜‿◝ )♡
