I used to in the past, but i guess as i aged i came to only sees them as an independent character of her own. I think the nowdays heroine having their own name and unique designs contribute to that stand also
 
I used to enter my nickname in the name field or think of myself as the heroine, but that's not the case anymore. At some point, I started viewing them and myself as separate entities almost as if I were reading a novel. That said, I still get a thrill from the words and actions of the LI in the game.
 
No, I can't do it. I might like a male character in a game, but I'll never project myself into that character. That's their story. I'll bless and be moved by their love, but I can't. I can't be in that story; I wouldn't be happy that way.:cool:
 
Sometimes! It really depends on the heroine's character and situation. I self-insert when I feel like it, but if the MC goes through way too much suffering, I step back and view her as a separate character. I definitely don't want to self-insert into a super miserable situation lol.

Not really. I see the heroine as her own character rather than as myself. In fact, one of the things I enjoy most about otome games is getting to know the protagonist just as much as the LIs.

That's probably why I tend to prefer heroines with strong personalities and their own character development.

If anyone has recommendations for otome games where the heroine's story is just as important as the LI (or even the main focus), I'd love to hear them! Those are usually the ones I end up enjoying the most.
 
I usually don't self-insert myself into the story.

I often leave the protagonist's name as it is, and I think the best way to describe how I play is that I'm more like a fan cheering for the protagonist and my favorite character to become a couple.

For me, the main reason I play otome games is to immerse myself in a romance story, much like when I read a novel or manga.
 
It's difficult to answer. I usually see the heroine as a separate character, but sometimes I still put myself in her shoes.
 
I like treating the heroine as her own character and seeing the development between the LI and her. Its like reading a story for me. I do self insert at time but mostly during the bonding scenes xd.

When I played games in japanese before I couldn't understand the mc's pov and only got what the LIs were saying bc they were voiced. So I self-inserted alot. Now, thanks to more localizations, I can appreciate the personality and monologue of otome mcs and watch her fall in love.
 
Never! I love when games flesh out the heroine as her own character, and I almost always end up liking them way more than the love interests. Just having a well-written protagonist can raise a game's score for me, and I enjoy simply relating to their struggles and how they're portrayed rather than inserting myself into their story.
 
It depends on the writing. But recent otome games often write the MC as a character more than a self insert shell, with official name, voices, and the LIs call her official name if you set it when playing, so I rarely self insert, it's more than I "can't" do that
 
No, because my name and appearance just don't fit into fictional worlds at all. And it honestly feels so weird to me when the love interests say my name out loud lol.
 
Not really - I've always viewed playing any sort of interactive media (whether it is otome, RPGs, Interactive novels etc.) as playing with dolls. The dev sets the scene and story for me, and the MC is the doll I get to move within that setting. I don't really see her as me or an extension of me, even if she is the lense through which I experience the story and interact with it.
 
I just never find myself doing this. I always read otome games as story of the MC and her adventures
 
I tend to self insert without realising. I guess I'm just immersed and am reading the story as if it's happening to me.
I usually use my own name unless the characters voice the MCs canon name if you leave it.
 
I just can't, even in otome games that are specifically made for self-inserts (like Amnesia, for example). Maybe it's because the heroine doesn't act the way I would, so it creates this sense of dissonance for me.
I prefer to see the heroine as a separate character with her own thoughts, actions, dreams, and etc. I'm also more drawn to otome games where the heroine has a strong personality. It's much more interesting this way.
 
I think I might be too self-conscious and I genuinely like being myself (it sounds egoistic but let me explain more), because I always found it hard to self-insert. I am just constantly aware of how different I am from otome MCs. I don't mind it at all though, I am interested in the world of the game, the story and the characters anyways and I don't even feel the need to self-insert. I enjoy being the invisible fairy godmother of the actual MC, trying to make her succeed not only in her romantic life but staying alive (as in most games bad endings mean she is dead), haha!
