Do you prefer otome game with gameplay element or just text reading element only?

I don't have a preference because it depends on what I want at that moment. Sometimes I will be too tired and only want to read. Sometimes I want some gameplay to challenge my mind.

For now I think variety is important. It would be nice to have more otome games mixed with RPG elements, turn-based, card games, other minigames etc for people who want them. Text-only otome can still exist for people who only like reading too.
But the industry appears to be lacking in novelty when no company wants to innovate. It seems they follow the saying "if it works don't try anything new fix it."

Whenever I see people asking for otome RPGs, they receive recommendations like Baldur's Gate 3 or Rune Factory, Fire Emblem...which are great games, but they are not otome and the vibes are different? I cannot describe it...

it actually depends on my mood and health condition whether i'd prefer pure text or gameplay elements
so, yeah, i like both, just depends on the mood

I only liked P3P and if they'd ever make a P6 with a FeMC again (never).

Then I'm not a huge fan of mini-games in my VN unless it's like FE3H where romance is optional too because I find them p tedious so I skipped Jack Jeanne along with it having a HS setting too.

Majority of otome games I play are text-based, but I don't mind if there's some sort of gameplay aspect.

BUT I absolutely hate gacha otome because romantic content is almost always locked behind getting cards or something, and there'll never be a story end unless the app EoS

I like both, but when the story is interesting, the gameplay can get in the way. I don't like systems that prevent you from progressing unless you reach a certain score.

I lack time and energy these days so I generally prefer to stick with just reading.. lol.

hmm... i prefer just reading. visual novels in general are my chill time, so anything too tedious can make me a little frustrated... (ᵕ—ᴗ—)

What first drew me to otome games was the gameplay. About a decade ago, there were many titles that integrated really engaging minigames. Take Love Revo, for example; I had to replay my first route four times because I kept failing to meet the event requirements. It was difficult and stressful, but incredibly memorable.

There were also games where you had to check the date and the weather before a date—if it rained, it was a total bust. Even your outfit mattered; wearing something that wasn't his style would cost you love points. I even remember an option to go "naked," and if you actually picked it, you'd be labeled a pervert for the day! You also had to work part-time jobs to afford gifts that matched each guy's specific tastes. Those days were so much fun, but games like that are much rarer now.

Back then, I found purely text-based games boring. However, maybe it's because I'm getting older (and lazier), I've started to appreciate simplicity. Now, I'm perfectly fine with games where I can just tap through the story. In fact, minigames can sometimes feel like a nuisance when they interrupt the plot. Ideally, I look for games that strike a perfect balance between the two.

Speaking of which, I heard Jack Jeanne is getting a sequel. I really hope the developers add a skip button for the rhythm games. Maybe not for the first playthrough, but please let us skip once we've already cleared a level. I had to grind through over 100 performances just to get the Happy Endings for the entire cast. It was pure torture.

Do you remember what game was that? I'm pretty curious because that sounds rather unhinged for an otome game!

The game is called Heartstring Bugs. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something fun and lighthearted. Don't be put off by the simple art style, I actually find it quite cute ^^ The game's mechanics are interesting and filled with subtle touches. For example, if you get lazy and wear the same outfit to your next date, he'll definitely notice and call you out on it=)))

I do like when otome games have some actual gameplay mechanics, but stuff like daily schedules or filler routines that don't really add anything... yeah, not really my thing.

I don't associate otome game with RPG game or any other type of game, so I only play otome game with text for now

I don't really like full visual games. They actually make me very sleepy, especially after a long day of work.
I'm a big fan of Tokimeki Memorial, Harukanaru Toki no Naka de, Kiniro no Corda, etc., because they give me a sense of achievement.

I love love love gameplay, as long as it's good. Like, Jack Jeanne, the rhythm games are a blast, I wish there were more. I've SS all of the Jack Jeanne difficulty to try and get all of the in game achievements. But the stat boosting mechanic makes me want to quit, it makes trying to get the other achievements take so much longer. :(

Would really love a little bit of gameplay element to make it less boring for me as I got distracted very easily (I am at the moment, very distracted lol) but not too complicated because it's hard as it is to finish reading. I don't want to add another reason why my backlog never seem to decrease lol

I'm not good at novel games.
Reading long stretches of text makes me sleepy...
I prefer games with gameplay elements, as they help me get more done!

I 100% prefer otomes where only reading and making some choices here and there is necessary. The less I gotta work, the better, because I'm already playing on hard mode by reading them in Japanese haha 🙈✨

Actually, I'm fine with either, as long as the plot is interesting, full of twists and turns that make me want to keep reading, even pure text can be thoroughly enjoyable for me. However, I think I'm getting older, which makes reading text make me drowsy, and that's really sad.

I love it when an otome has at least some gameplay, but only if it's well-implemented! In Red Bell, it was implemented REALLY poorly; the slow movement through the corridors really irritated me😭
