Do you prefer a strong or a "weak" MC?

It really depends on the situation or the story. Personally, I enjoy stories where a protagonist who starts off unable to do anything eventually grows and develops, but sometimes I also crave a protagonist who's bold and decisive—someone who just gets things done! It's hard to choose between the two! 😆

I prefer the type of protagonist who looks like they need protection. The protagonist has a gentle personality and appearance, which makes people feel protective. I prefer the male lead to be strong.
I actually like it when the MC appears sweet and fragile but is actually a menace when pissed off and forced to act 🤣🤣

I think the middle ground neither too weak nor too strong is best.
but if I had to be picky, I like the personality of a weak MC who becomes stronger over time the most.
I think most people so far share your opinion about a MC that grows over time and becomes stronger

I genuinely enjoy both! I love seeing a strong MC take charge and overcome challenges on her own, but I also find it really rewarding to watch a gentler heroine gradually grow more confident and learn to stand up for herself. I think both types have their own charm, and I love seeing characters grow in different ways!

i don't mind either, honestly! 🥹 i enjoy strong mcs, but i also like more vulnerable or shy ones. what matters most to me is that they have their own personality and aren't just pushed around by the plot. ♡

I prefer stronger MCs but I'm always pretty lax and can handle both. Though maybe if the mc is *too* weak, then I'd get annoyed, but I've never experienced that.

A heroine who can handle her own shit but still lets the LIs protect her sometimes (or at least gets flustered by it lol) is the best of both worlds 🥰
What I can't stand is when "strong" just means cold and rude for no reason or when a supposedly strong MC suddenly turns into a damsel the moment an LI shows up. Make it make sense, girl😭
Give me someone who grows, messes up, learns, and feels like an actual person. That matters way more to me than whether she can throw a punch or needs saving once in a while.

I agree, good writing and characterization can make up for many many things!

I'm fine with both strong and weak MCs. They can be a little naive or silly sometimes, but I dislike it when they are constantly led around by other characters and make decisions that end up making me hate them

i like both! i think it depends more on the mc's personality and how well she fits the story. i enjoy seeing a strong mc who can handle things on her own just as much as a gentle mc who lets others help her. both can be charming in their own way : o

It depends on the story and how well-written it all is, but I don't mind either. Though I do prefer an mc that doesn't swing too heavily one way or the other. MCs that can make a decision on their own but know their own weaknesses enough to accept help or show that they're not as tough as they present themselves to be are always good to see.

I definitely prefer a strong MC, but not necessarily in the sense that she has to be physically strong or capable of fighting! I just like heroines who have their own opinions, stand up for themselves, and aren't afraid to speak their minds. I don't mind an MC who's shy, timid, or emotionally vulnerable as long as she has some character development throughout the story. I think what frustrates me most is when an MC is overly passive and just lets everything happen to her without questioning anything.

I perfer strong MC because I want her to make choices that benefits her and not regretted about it. I don't want MC making decisions for her. Thats why I am reluctant to play Diabolik Lovers since Yui is a bit indecisive and a bit weak and everyone around her just pure toxic level that she need to fix. I still want to play since I love vampire theme but not traumatized vamipre to fix either. But I kinda know those theme could make a lot of male lead to be weak and strong MC like Yuki from Vampire Knight is perfect than Yui. She is making her choices even though the surrounding characters are cooked.

Yes in my original post Strong wasn't necessarily a fighter, just a strong personality in general in many ways! 👍🏻

A mix is best for me too. A totally helpless MC gets frustrating, but an invincible one makes the romance pointless. I like a capable MC who can handle herself but still lets the LIs support her sometimes — it feels like a real partnership.

Regardless of the protagonist's strength or weakness, the most important thing is whether their growth throughout the story is depicted. Even if the character is gentle and sensitive, it's great to see them develop strength through internal struggles and show a firm resolve. Conversely, I don't enjoy stories with passive characters who don't take action themselves and rely entirely on others.

I don't really care whether the protagonist is strong or weak.
What I enjoy is seeing them confront themselves and grow over the course of the story.

I like a 'strong' MC.. Because no matter how strong she is, at the end of the day she is a human who can feel emotions and weakness.. Her 'soft spot' is only revealed to her special someone is one of the best point that appeals to me the most.. ദ്ദി˶˃ ᵕ ˂ )✧

I like how the protagonist starts off weak but gradually becomes stronger. Watching the protagonist grow stronger from a weak start gives you a sense of catharsis

Honestly, it's just stressful watching a character constantly get beaten down or struggle with every little thing. When the protagonist is actually competent and can handle themselves, you don't have to constantly worry about them failing. Instead, you just get to sit back, relax, and watch them look completely cool while they effortlessly handle whatever the world throws at them.

i'm in the strong camp, i don't like weak or blank self-insert MC, i like to see the MC's journey from my own perspective, i want to disagree with MC a little (have a character of their own)

I prefer a strong MC, but not necessarily physically strong. I like characters who have their own opinions, make decisions, and stand up for themselves rather than relying on others all the time.
