do you own a switch for otome games?

While I didn't buy my switch specifically for otome games, I do sometimes play otomes that translated on enslish on it. for Japanese-only releases, however, I use an emulator and translation tools. I guess one of the reasons is switch's portability, it's convenient to have an opportunity to play anywhere, not only sitting at your desktop

I bought mine for Pokemon and animal crossing (◕દ◕)
now, it has turned into a little portable otome arcade like all my handhelds swiftly turn into.

I still prefer to play on PC certain otome but I like to keep backlogs on my switch so I can play them traveling.

i was never interested in owning a switch until my brother won one and i ended up hogging it to play pokemon sword and shield lol i eventually bought it from him and played a lot more games like otome, my first one on it was collar x malice now i also own a switch 2 which is going to be my pokemon machine lol bought it for pokopia and winds and waves :ROFLMAO:

I bought a Switch for otome games. I play other games on it, but I honestly wasn't interested in it until I saw they were releasing otomes for it lol. I know I could use emulators, but I bought it because of the handheld, on-the-go capabilities and also to support the companies with my purchases.

Some people use emulators, some play those games legit after purchasing them, and others have modded Switches that they load the games' roms on.

Personally, I bought my Switch for Pokémon games and Stardew Valley's Switch port. I'd use it to play otome games, but I'm interested in playing in Japanese and I don't want to go through the hassle of making an alternate Nintendo account and buying gift cards just to be able to play a game that's only available on the Japanese eShop. So, for now, I'm playing Japanese Switch games on an emulator and I'm saving money towards modding my Switch so I can load roms on it and play the game as intended. I don't plan on buying a Switch 2 until there's a game I feel I absolutely need to play, since I'm not much of a console gamer anymore to begin with.

As for why there are so many otome games on Switch, I seriously don't know. I suppose it's because of the portability and if companies specialize in one console it's easier for them in terms of production, but this is more a guess than anything.

I didn't get a Switch just for otome, as I had a Vita for that reason (mostly Japanese titles though). I ended up buying one with my brother for other Switch exclusive titles. Before I got it I just played the games in emulators on my laptop :b

The Japanese market actually is way more into portable gaming consoles than PC/home console, so I think that otome launches more in the Switch (and previously on Vita!) because the main market is more likely to own a Switch than any other gaming platform. Probably why most non-Switch otoge is mobile as well

Oh, that makes a lot of sense then! I feel kinda silly for not considering that since it's the simplest explanation lol

Thank you for clarifying! :D

I bought mine a looong, long time ago (ended up with the Mariko model which required some, ahem... tweaks, hadware-wise) for Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Super Mario Party. Ended up also loving Animal Crossing of course, but nowadays I use my Switch almost exclusively for Otome games and it is, by far, my favorite platform (second only to the PSVita, handheld is so much better than Switch) to play them on. (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) ‹𝟹

I also considered getting a Steam Deck because honestly I just really, really hate sitting at my desk and reading.

As for why there are so many, I'd wager that it's because the Switch is the current successor to the Vita as far as visual novel/otome gaming goes. It's the most widespread handheld at the moment, people clearly love it (perhaps not the prices, though that's neither here nor there), and so publishers keep making games. Also, it's probably not that difficult to port visual novel games in general. There aren't such a wide variety of different assets as in, say, an MMO. (*ᵕᴗᵕ)⁾⁾

I play on pc and a couple of handled. Otome and other games. So I bought it with a thought, but not for sole otome purpose.

I have a Switch (and will soon get a Switch 2), and I play other things besides Otome games, the same goes for the Vita. I got one for the same reason; it's much more comfortable than just emulating, and I can use the translation tools by mirroring on my PC if needed.

May I ask what you use for streaming? I tried SysDVR but it's not so smooth. Thou for vns it's not that important.)

I usually use OBS; I think it has better options, but my PC isn't one of the best, but it's the one that runs it best.

I only use emulation. Switch emulators are strong enough to run even the newest games, and I prefer the PC screen so I really have no use for a console.

And Japan's console market is quite large compared to PC. It isn't an "otome" thing but it's just how their overall gaming industry works. Afaik they commute a lot so portable devices are a convenient part of their life. Sony and Nintendo are Japanese companies and they're making bank after all.
Plus, when you look at the options, consoles are much more approachable for a regular person. Like you get maybe a few options, Switch 1 or 2, type of screen, but that's about it. However if a noob wants to build a PC suitable for gaming, especially one that won't become obsolete after just a few years, there will be a lot of research and money going into that.
If we go back to the otome topic, this might sound stereotypical but I think a lot of girls like the aesthetics of consoles too. They're smaller, cuter, unlike the bulky PC. So it adds to the reasons why many otome are on Switch (and previous generation handhelds)

I actually bought one for otome games xD And now i'm thinking maybe i should buy vita too
:miku_ikemen:

I play on PSP, PSVita then moved to Switch but still prefer PC port so I can use translation tools for JP Otome.:goodtea:

I have a switch but it's fighting for its life for some reason. Despite that I do have a few otome games for it :)

after years of emulating, I decided to get one :)
some otome didn't work for me, like EiT. In the end, it turned out to be more comfortable for me on switch.
While I initially didn't pay attention to Jack Jeanne at first, it probably is also more comfortable to play it on the Switch due to the rhythm portions (they took me hours per music until I decided to switch from buttons to fingers on dancing mode! in terms of singing mode I managed to get used to L and R)

I also considered getting a Steam Deck because honestly I just really, really hate sitting at my desk and reading.
Yesssss! I have one and it's my main device for Otome games! I use both Eden and ryujinx for switch only games and they run pretty well. Plus, like you, I also hate sitting at my desk so the steam deck is great 👍.

yep i have a modded switch solely to play otome games! its rlly great to have for situations where ur not a full on pirate and want to support otome companies too ++ its portable and so i've used my switch on flights when i've had nothing to do. I highly recommend getting one! i've also been the type to emulate in the past but it was deeply annoying because of the pure amount of glitches lmao (im sure the emulation scene has changed though)

I am using an emulator now. But I have a thought that I want to buy Nintendo because sometimes I want to play in bed😆

I have an original run switch, and I am so thankful I gave in to FOMO back then because it was so easy to mod. I've had a lot of fun using cheats, mods, and translation patches (huge shoutout to the TMGS patches!) on genuine hardware. The funny thing is I sold the game I originally got it with because I didn't care for it… I actually let the console sit unused for ages until Fire Emblem: Three Houses came out.

Now its main job is to be the otome game machine. Although, I will say that the battery life is cooked, and I only play it docked these days.
