Do you like secret love interests or not?

I LOVE secret routes, especially when I genuinely had no idea they were in there!!
It's pretty rare to be surprised nowadays since you don't really pick up games blind anymore; you see people online talk about them, promotions/trailers, etc. So playing an otome and finding a secret route while playing is such a nice surprise.
They're usually my favourite routes, too.

I do like secret love interests but whether I pursue them depends on their personality and how difficult it would be to unlock their route.
 
Secret LIs are fun. It's a shame, though, how they sometimes get the short end of the stick compared to the other routes -- theirs are shorter or feel overall more detached from the central conflict.

Honestly, I really do like secret LIs when they turn out to be the ones I wanted all along. I do hate it when I have to play EVERY character's route just to unlock them, though. I rarely do all the routes.
 
Actually, storylines involving these hidden characters usually revolve around the game's true ending or the heroine's official love interest…

But it would be great if the hidden character were later added to the regular cast.

I enjoy secret LIs! I think if they're especially well-written and their introduction is executed well without it feeling forced, secret LIs can bring more nuance to the story that can make me enjoy their route even more
 
It's hit or miss, but secret love interests are usually right up my alley, so I've had to grind through the entire cast a few times just to unlock him.

However, having to pursue guys I'm not into is really no fun at all. I'm not the type to 100% clear every game. I only play the routes for characters I actually like. Because of that, I've recently started using the skip button (whereas in the past, I never used it and would force myself to read through everything).
 
I tend to like most secret. I'll even complete other characters' routes just to unlock them, purely to get to see that secret character. A lot of games give secret characters this strong sense of fate, and their storylines offer the best experience. That said, I don't care for the ones with dull, uninteresting backstories.
 
My favorite secret route Peter/Jupiter from Cupid Paradise. The story is so funny and comedy. Peter change to mascot character out of embarrassment is a good idea that I am so happy to play. It gives me happiness and the story was okay. Just pure love comedy hit the most. It was combinations of cuteness and romance. The fact that he acts like Jupiter and disguise himself Peter was so interesting. He have like switch of shy boy and deep voice god. That was amazing that I cannot think about it. Jupiter was there as mascot character in every route was super cute. I just love it.
 
I usually end up liking the secret LIs the most lol. I love when I don't see them coming at all.
