do you have any pet peeves in art?

this is not a thread to bully or discredit an artist's time or talent, (｡•́︿•̀｡)
but is there any art pet peeves that seem to break your immersion because it's all you can focus on or something that deters you from playing?
i was looking through a collection on itch and one of the games stood out to me because of one of my odd pet peeves and wondered if anyone else felt the same. (,,•᷄‎ࡇ•᷅ ,,)


i have a few...this one is what inspired this thread and probably makes me sound like a crazy person but BIG ears.
they will be all that i focus on while trying to play. one's that stick out horizontally too far or ones that are too large for the model's head in correlation to size. it would be different if it was one character out of the cast like it's one of their defining features, but when it's the whole cast? i can't hold on, jack... (an example would be under the moon...the mc is also egregious with her size of eyes too, but i can over look those in comparison to the ears) ૮(◞ ‸ ◟ )ა

they just..they don't look like they're in the right position on the head.

another one is poc coloring (or design itself) being widely inaccurate to the point of caricature. please, there are copious models and guides to reference to prevent hurtful imagery and completely disregarding features and multitude of dynamic skintones. (｡•̀ ⤙ •́ ｡ꐦ) !!!

and ai being another obvious issue. ai art is never consistent, obvious errors, lacks human 'soul' and is detrimental to artists' livelihood. i believe you can't replace what a human painstakingly designs with intent and focus to what someone types out to generate and expect the same invoking of feelings or movement. ദ്ദി (ᵔᗜᵔ)

i've felt that way about when they do it to belly buttons. it's so uncanny, but for men, their chest is shown throughout all media so it is odd for some art to flat out REFUSE to draw a male's nipples and yet the areola on a woman is emphasized in droves. (๑•̀д•́๑)

Yeah. One of the things that bothers me the most is when all the male characters have practically the same face, with only their hairstyle or hair color changing. I also agree that exaggeratedly large eyes can look unnatural at times—it actually kind of creeps me out, haha. Plus, I'm not really a fan of AI-generated art in games. that's why i kinda quit playing most voltage games, they were so much of the same face and tropes with just a new story only recolored. like, very, very repetitive to me and speaking of, there's a real lack of emotion on their faces too. ( • ᴖ • ｡)

this is probably less otome related, and its extremely silly, but i dont like it when a vn has a protagonist whos present on cgs, yet on these same cgs, the hero/ine is looking into the camera instead of, you know, the protagonist. like sure i understand fiction and most protagonists are just there for the selfinsert (especially in galge) and all that, but it just looks like these characters suddenly gained consciousness and are breaking the 4th wall.. for whatever reason..
im okay with you two being intimate with each other, dont mind me and stare lovingly into each others eyes instead of mine! okey?

I have a character design pet peeve where I get irrationally annoyed when characters with animal traits have two sets of ears. Like a pair of cat ears on their head and human ears on the side, unless its specifically a pair of fake cat ears ofc, but other wise It just looks so bizarre...

there is that feeling that any sprite or cg has the ability to become hauntingly aware looking at the camera...i completely get it, i get the creeps sometimes feeling like if THIS is the game with malware, this is my sign. ꉂꉂ(ᵔᗜᵔ*)

!!! i completely understand it!! it's so prevalant with werewolves that i'm like...just cover the human ear spot with hair! it's so easy to solve and less work than more anatomy, right? ૮₍｡•̀ ﻌ •́｡₎ა

it's such a shame too, you hate to see the industry sliding with ai especially in these big companies who CAN afford artists and writers.

the eyes I can kinda ignore from years of manga (especially shoujo) being really a staple in older works, but seeing eyes more in cohesion with the head size is so! refreshing to see and is almost jarring jumping between the two. ⸜(｡˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

A classic is badly drawn hands, especially if they're comically big. Far too many CGs have been ruined by that, because once you see it, you can't unsee it It's a real shame when the artist is good at everything but the hands... (sometimes I feel like it might just be their preference though)

I can stomach a lot, but I really dislike weird anatomy (unnatural-looking limbs, weird body positions that look like they'd hurt) in romantic CGs. My biggest pet peeve is probably when the in-game art, so far, looked fine but suddenly some or all of the CGs seem way off because different artists handled them.

Really don't like AI-generated things either.
As for my other pet peeves, I don't like anatomy and proportions that doesn't make sense at lol. Though, I'm a lot less harsh on the art of indie games, but for like commercial games, then yeah.

Amnesia has some very long boys, but the one game that actually got to me with the weird proportions is Rejet's Alice=Alice. Why is the Mad Hatter's torso so damn long?? Everyone has some interesting proportions in the game (the King, lol), but he's wearing some ultra low rise pants, which only makes it worse lmao

I never hid the text box in the game, I was too hung up on it ;b

I am however a defender of big ears, but mostly when the characters have piercings! (That may be because I enjoy drawing big ears, just to deck them with a ridiculous amount of piercings lol or because I myself have a few ear piercings...)
I actually get more bothered by ears that are too small! It looks very silly haha
