Do people like console games ported to pc?

depends on what kinds of access you have i think? like if you only have pc or laptop and don't have money to buy\or just don't own consoles like nintendo: the more companies or developers port - the better
also screen of pc is usually bigger so you can enjoy the visuals of games better in addition to previous point
although if you own a console then you probably rarely think about it at all

i think it's just that to own a pc in western countries is common and easier while in japan (as the main country producing otome games) portable consoles are more affordable and comfortable to have from what i heard - so the moment company decides to port game to pc it's usually aimed to western and chinese public i think which means they translate it in english and chinese too

yeah sometimes the interface and buttons can be weirdly put to play but still

jeez sorry for such a long reply hahahah

Back in the PSP era, I would've been totally happy to see it get a PC port—PSP graphics were just awful. But now switch boast pretty impressive visuals, the biggest upside of the PC port is that it's far cheaper than the console version.

When it comes to interface, Hyakka Hyakurou(Nightshade)is a perfect counterexample. The extra buttons added to the dialogue box in the Switch version are just obtrusively distracting.

I'm happy about every game ported to PC. Sure, we can run almost anything using third-party apps, but a full native release is just so much easier and more convenient. So many great games are still stuck on old consoles without any English translation, whether official or fan-made. I understand why so many people like the Switch; it's a relevant and convenient console that's easy to take with you to work or school. It gets both new games and old re-releases. I just find it easier to play on PC

It's always good to see games being ported to PCs, especially to prevent them from becoming lost media. As someone who owns a Vita, many games on the device are not compatible with emulators or easily available to buy.
In the future, when these devices degrade, the exclusive games won't be playable anymore. Although emulating is an option, for niche games that are not well known compatibility may be harder to achieve.

unfortunately i dont own any of the consoles, so playing on pc is the only way for me to experience stuff, so having an official port is always welcome!
however, i heard that some pc ports are a little,, rough? i havent read it yet, but i heard a lot about bustafellows' poor optimization for pc. i mean, its better than not having a port at all or having to deal with countless emulators (i always feel a little intimidated when reading threads about switch emulators because it kinda feels like there are separate setups for every single game), but, well;;

in general, in a somewhat egoistical fashion w, i think a lot of games would benefit greatly from pc ports. many consoles require heavy censorship, while "rules" on pc are way more "relaxed" i guess? would be way more accessible to people too. but i guess thats just the otome culture..^^

only thing that i dislike is when it looks so obvious that they made the minimum effort to adapt the controls to pc and choose weird and uncomfortable keys to navigate the game
But I'll always cheer when a game gets ported, it facilitates the access of it to a larger audience

Warning: long essay/rant, feel free to skip it haha

Yeah, I usually prefer playing on PC for a bunch of reasons. First of all, it's just easier and more convenient for me. I keep all my games on Steam and it lets you do a lot more stuff than consoles do, like using mods or patches (modding a Switch is not exactly easy unless you have prior experience with things like that, and I've also read that new models cannot be modded), switching between controller or mouse/keyboard, multitasking, etc.

One thing I really like about PC releases is that it's super easy to stumble onto new games. Most of the time I'm not actively looking for an otome or a VN, I'm just scrolling through Steam, checking similar games to something I've played before and I find a game I didn't know existed, which is awesome for niche stuff like otomes. Consoles feel way more limiting in comparison. The eShop is kinda annoying to browse unless you already know exactly what you want. A lot of people don't follow otome companies on social media, so Steam ends up being the place where many players even hear about a game for the first time.

Prices are another thing. Steam games tend to be a bit cheaper, and sales happen pretty often, though the timing and discount amount obviously depends on the publisher. Honestly, it makes games way more accessible without having to wait for a console re-release or hunt down second-hand copies at weird prices.

On a more personal note, I'm not really a fan of Nintendo as a company, so the last time I bought one of their consoles or games was when I was around 14 I think, lol. That said, I do buy like 90% of the big otome ports that come to Steam (though sadly I don't have much time to play them).

Another important point for me is hardware longevity. Consoles generally have a much shorter life cycle compared to PCs. For example, I still own Nintendo DS games that I literally can't play anymore because, after many years, my console just stopped working one day. I don't know if the battery finally died or what happened, it worked perfectly the last time I used it and I stored it properly. And if a console breaks nowadays, you often can't even take it to an official repair service anymore because support is gone.

On top of that, if I wanted to buy DS, 3DS, PSP games today, I simply couldn't since both digital stores and physical retailers no longer sell them, so the only option is second-hand. That doesn't give any money to developers or publishers, and resale prices sometimes are... well... let's just say not exactly reasonable 😅.

That said, I've noticed a slight positive trend in recent years. More companies are releasing otome games on PC now, PQube (currently waiting for a new Otome announcement, hopefully soon 🥺), MangaGamer (almost 100% of their releases are PC), and Dramatic Create (although I really don't like that they use MTL and still price their games so high 😐).

Anyway, sorry for the long post 😅, just wanted to share my thoughts.

Also, kinda going off track, but since Voltage announced AmuLit as their new imprint, they haven't said anything about PC/Steam versions for their games, which I find a bit odd. Their official Twitter bio says: "This is the official account of AmuLit, Voltage Inc's brand for games released on the Nintendo Switch™ & Steam®."

However, all the games they've ported to PC so far were originally Android titles, and those were released under the Voltage brand, not AmuLit. That's why I'm confused, if AmuLit is supposed to cover both Switch and Steam, why haven't we seen that reflected in their releases yet? Maybe I'm misunderstanding something lol.

True.

I feel this so much, before I bought my Switch or set up Ryujinx, I was super hyped that I could play "real" otome games like Amnesia, the two Psychadelica, TaiAli etc at all. Now I'm glad that other people get that chance to experience the same (plus more PC port sales also encourages localisation of otome in general).

But...I also hate the stupid decisions made for some ports in terms of controls.

Bustafellows PC victim here (bought it on PC, ended up pirating Switch ver because the controls were that bad), I literally had to use the on-screen keyboard instead of my laptop keyboard because the controls were bound to keys my laptop keyboard didn't have  . Couldn't change them either ha.ha.ha

For me it's the ones ported to pc that are on steam! Cause of the regional pricing, I can try out games I'm not sure if I will like there. For the games I do like a lot I tend to buy it in every platforms that I can

it's definitely more convenient. console games aren't always super accessible unfortunately, some people may not even have the right specs for emulators. i find that pc ports, most of them, are way easier to navigate around for the broader audience! i finally played hakuoki when they port it a few years ago to pc and didn't have any consoles. i definitely like being given that option, i think others might think so too

As long as nothing gets cut, I actually prefer it when a PC title is ported to a console—because I can curl up in bed and play.
Most people feel the opposite, of course: they want games moved from console to PC. Not everyone owns a gaming machine, but a PC is pretty much a necessity nowadays. Plus, when older games are re-released on PC they're usually given an HD makeover, which suits modern expectations far better.

I'm more on the side that likes to port games to PC regardless of the language to make them more accessible. I believe it's much easier to make a translation patch on PC than on a Switch, for example. I'm quite purist about game content; I hate when game content is cut or poorly translated. Usually, depending on the game's content, they cut a lot of it.
For example, I love the Fire Emblem franchise, but Engage, which came here, had a lot of cuts or poorly translated dialogue and character skills because it was too "suggestive." The same thing happened with Fire Emblem Fates; it wasn't much, at least for me, but sauna events and touching the character's face while in the room were simply cut.

Haha, I also bought Bustafellows on PC not too long ago, but I don't have a laptop. I hope my experience won't be as bad as yours and won't ruin the impression (yes, I'm one of those people who loves Steam achievements; at least in visual novels, it's easier for me to get that 'perfect game' badge)

I think with a larger/PC-style keyboard it should be okay (if you really get sick of the controls I think some players have had success with third-party key rebinding programs)

I would like playing ported games on PC if not for the fact they always seem to heavily edit them for audiences and cut out all the interesting stuff.
